The Battle for Mirum Ostentum: Narrative Campaign Report – Part #1

Posted on May 19th, 2017 under , , , , , . Posted by

The post relates to the ongoing narrative campaign that is being run by my gaming group. All the missions used for the first phase use fixed forces and have clearly defined objectives. Two of us tested the missions before those whom had not seen the missions, prior to them being played took control of the forces. The campaign itself is based around a chaos invasion of the planet designated Mirum Ostentum. As we wanted to end the first phase with a battlefleet gothic > planetstrike combo, it was decided that the first phase chaos presence would be limited to alpha legion…continue reading

MAD Blood Bowl Season 3 – Hag Graef Hexes Match #1

Posted on May 17th, 2017 under , , , , . Posted by

“Welcome sports fans, to a Special Report on the MAD Blood Bowl League Season 3 to date. I, your touchline reporter Bertwold Humpernickle, have been following the progress of the totally focused, totally cutthroat Dark Elf team, Hag Graef Hexes, and here is my rundown of their progress so far.”   This team has come seemingly out of nowhere, after reportedly having spent the last few seasons raiding across the Great Ocean, they returned home to Naggaroth with their holds loaded with slaves and loot, only to be approached by none other than renowned Dark Elf coach Invillius the Unrepentant, with…continue reading

Well, that was fun while it lasted. Grey Knights in 5th, Taudar in 6th, Tau AND Eldar in 7th, then Ynari. Oh well, time to burn EVERYTHING!  Thanks GW for destroying my game. You were my favorite ice cream shop, you always had the best flavor of the month, and now you won’t commit to rules that favor people like anymore.  You say it’s a “living rule set,â€ so no more Ynari books, you say you’ll just fix works of absolute perfection like that if they ever arise.  I loved how I was rewarded when my opponent did well, and when…continue reading

Kitbashes and Conversions – Creating Alternative Models for Your Armies

Posted on May 13th, 2017 under , , , , , , . Posted by

Conversions. A simple but potent word that also comes closely related to its sister term kitbashing. Beloved by those who play Orks or Chaos in 40k as it is very simple to steal something vaguely interesting to you, and load it with spikes, heretical symbols, or random armour plates to denote its newly corrupted/looted state.   Back when apocalypse first dropped, Games workshop released a few ‘formation’ box sets. I found out, after reading through the book, that anything the imperials could get – chaos could take. This led to the acquisition of the basilisk 3 pack. I took two…continue reading

Chaos Land Raider: the Sculpting Has Begun (WIP #2)

Posted on May 11th, 2017 under , , , , , , . Posted by

I had shown the rough shape this Land Raider is in week, and I mentioned my plan for it. Well, I started on that plan. Though I haven’t gotten as far along as I’d like, I figured I’d show what I have done. Obviously it’s still very early work. At this point I’m feeling out where I want to work elements in. While I want to make the Land Raider all mutated and daemonic, I also don’t want to overdo it either. One thing I’m trying to do with the sculpting is work in elements of each god. The eye on…continue reading

What It’s like Gaming While Blind

Posted on May 9th, 2017 under , . Posted by

12 years ago, I started an Imperial Guard collection, *cool story bro,* except I was, and am, legally blind. How bad is your vision really? Well, I can’t tell what a model is by looking at it.  I have to feel it up… If you ask me which one of my guardsman has a flamer, the answer is for me to start poking each one of them until I find the flamer. I also have a guide dog. How do you keep track of a 2,000 point 40k game? I have learned to keep a mental map.  Over time I’ve…continue reading

Space Ork – Wazdakka Gutsmek Conversion & Showcase

Posted on May 7th, 2017 under , , , , , , , . Posted by

Hello everyone! Cadaver here from Home Of Cadaver. Following my latest ork craze, I have decided to revisit some of my ancient conversions that I feel very proud of. If you follow my little piece of the internet here more regularly, you may have already noticed my Ork Mek Jetbike I have posted some time ago. This time I took the time to modernize a conversion so old, that it is not valid with the current fluff anymore, but I don’t give a rats ass about that 😛 I present to you, my version of Wazdakka Gutsmek, the infamous Evil Suns…continue reading

Chaos Land Raider: Work in Progress #1

Posted on May 4th, 2017 under , , , , , . Posted by

I got this Land Raider years ago. I bought it used off a friend, and as you’ll see below, it was/is in pretty rough shape. There’s some serious gaps, and some attempts at filling those in were made prior to me getting it, and there are areas that are w…

Wargaming Bloggers Showcase #44

Posted on April 29th, 2017 under , , . Posted by

Wow! It’s been over 3 months since I’ve done one of these. I have no good excuse either. So, let’s dive in. Now, these first two are from back in January, when I started collecting for this. I’m sure those bloggers won’t mind traffic on some slightly older content :) The last one is recent, and what reminded me I’ve neglected doing a wargaming bloggers showcase. De Silentio Umbrae: XXX – Showcase: Nurglings Stats does some great work in the name of Nurgle, so it’s not surprising that his Nurglings look great. The thing that really caught my eye with these is the mucus…continue reading

Alternative Thunderwolf Cavalry: Creating the Thundergryph Cavalry.

Posted on April 27th, 2017 under , , , , . Posted by

My personally designed space marine chapter originally started in the fourth edition space marine codex where you could choose traits to alter your force to your liking while having detriments. I loved the flexibility that those rules provided. I chose…

Magnetizing a CR90 Corellian Corvette – Star Wars X-Wing

Posted on April 25th, 2017 under , , , , , . Posted by

Looks cool, right? (Too bad I broke a cannon off, oops) If you want help magnetizing your stuff, I may be THE BARON of magnets 😉 I’m using the: CR90 Corvette & Imperial Raider Huge Ship Star Wars X-Wing Repair & Magnetize Kit   Step 1 Use some modeling putty to fill up the hole in the base.  This helps the magnet stick better. Step 2 Put a dab of super glue on the green stuff and exposed plastic surface and drop a magnet on. Note on magnets: It is crucial that you make sure that the magnets on the rods match…continue reading

Warhammer 40K 8th Edition on the Horizon – Thank God

Posted on April 22nd, 2017 under , . Posted by

So, Games Workshop has done the unimaginable and is reforging the game for Warhammer 40K 8th edition. If you haven’t seen the article, you can check it out here. I also just learned that they have released a website for 40K. Note: I wrote this article …

“News from the Front” – Expanding Bolt Action

Posted on April 15th, 2017 under , , , , . Posted by

Greetings Wargamers and Hobbyists. This is Leicestershire calling. As we approach Easter, it seems like an age since I last sat down and typed an article for this esteemed community blog, and to be fair, it is about eight weeks since my last offering – the Cigar Box Battle mat review . Since then, I have finished assembling all the miniatures I had left to assemble, and played four games; one Kings of War, one Blood Bowl, and two Bolt Action. Not exactly setting the world on fire averaging one game every two weeks, but that’s a pace I am pretty…continue reading

4 Reasons Why 40K Is Still the King of Wargaming

Posted on April 13th, 2017 under , , . Posted by

Hello everyone! First let me introduce myself. My name is Nick, though I’m generally known by a variety of monikers elsewhere around the internet. The Burning Eye and Feydan being my most common alternative personas. Feydan was a character I created a few years ago when planning a deathwatch army (back when the daemonhunters and witch hunters codices were released – I foolishly thought that they’d release all three ordos!), and was the eldest brother of three siblings of the Daggoth family. His younger sister Jenna is a witch hunter. The youngest of the three Morne is the Malleus operative….continue reading

Remembering and Revisiting Battlefleet Gothic

Posted on April 9th, 2017 under , , , , , . Posted by

Battlefleet gothic still plays well for an 18-year-old game. While first being released in 1999 the game received FAQs and was updated until 2010. Until I had picked up the original boxed game I was a fully engaged player of 40k starting way back durin…
