Odd and Sundry Bits

Posted on June 19th, 2017 under , , , , , , , , , , , , . Posted by

Below is a collection of an assortment of odd and sundry bits that have been haunting the periphery of my work area for some time, partially painted, that I’ve recently –  over the last month – finished off… but didn’t feel any one group necessitated a post all of their own… or maybe they all could have, but I was feeling lazy…?
(Remember: click on the pictures for a bigger version):

Two English Civil War cavalrymen. One, on the left, is from Old Glory the other, on the right, is from Perry Miniatures.

The two finish up a unit of heavy cavalry for The Pikeman’s Lament.

An English Civil War musketeer casualty from Perry Miniatures. You can’t see it, because it’s hidden by the grass, but he’s sitting on his musket.

A Teutonic Knight Casualty from Gripping Beast. The beginnings of a Teutonic Knight retinue for Lion Rampant. I have two units of Mounted Men-at-Arms and an assortment of pilgrims and clergymen and a bunch of cavalry to paint up for the force. Well… some of the clergy are already painted… I’m not sure what I was thinking when I decided to pick up the knights… seemed like a good idea at the time…? I’ll probably need to pick up some Mounted Sergeants and some more foot for the force at some point… maybe when I actually get some of the other units finished!!

First two of the Reaper Bones 3 Kickstarter, which arrived a couple weeks ago, that I’ve “painted”. There wasn’t much painted involved – other than the base.

The Wizard I actually have a not-so-translucent version of – so I can make him “invisible”.

I’m not sure why I ended up with the invisible/translucent dude with the hammer…?

Three Lead Adventure Miniaturespost-apocalyptic survivors.

Two more post-apocalyptic KGB from Lead Adventure Miniatures. I finished the others from this set back in February

One of the figures from the Psi-Paladins and Techno-Barbarians Kickstarter for Mutants and Death Ray Guns.

A Grenadier Guards Officer from Miniature Figurines Winter of ’79 range.

Three female police constables also from from Miniature Figurines Winter of ’79 range.

Dark Young of Shub-Niggurath from Reaper Bones 3 Kickstarter. I got all the big mythos creatures out of this set. Painted up this guy as an adventure I’m prepping to kick off a Cthulhu Invictus campaign involves a Dark Young…

With the wizard for scale – he’s pretty damned big! Shub0niggurath herself and Dagon are even HUGER?!

A terribly out of focus shot of three Grymm sniper specialists from Hasslefree Miniatures. Their camouflage was so good the camera could just not recognize what to focus on…

Are the Grymm supposed to be like Space Dwarves…? I think so. But given that hasslefree minis are on the slightish side, I though they might fit in with one of my units of Imperial Guard Ratling snipers.

Unit of Ratling snipers. They’re still on the slight side… maybe female Ratlings are smaller and have tinier heads than the males of their species…? I probably should have converted their boots into big feet to match up with the GW guys a bit better… ah well…
That’s it for me for now. Need to do some planning this week and figure out what I’m going to work on in the coming months…

Manual Labour

I have had these two for some time now and I thought they had earned a bit of paint. I tried to spread a few spot colours around but still get the same dirty, muddy look the rest of my IG has.

Objective Secured

Posted on May 27th, 2017 under , , , . Posted by

So for a while now I have been thinking about putting together some objective markers that can double up as pieces for terrain, scenary and diorama. I have managed to paint up my little arms cache I made from spare bits.

For something cobbled together out of literally spare bits I am happy with it. I now intend to keep this up on a regular basis and put together more bits that kind of tell the story. For a long while I have looked at doing some sort of supply drop or airborne drop.

Now that the latest 40k stuff is out I am drooling over their set of objective markers. Money is always tight so spending £20 is a big ask but maybe, just maybe, it might go on a gift list somewhere.

End Of The Week – Miniature Painting Update

Posted on May 14th, 2017 under , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , . Posted by

It’s actually been a better week for painting than I was expecting. It started with having to finish off 5 Ratling/Hobbit snipers. My urge is to say that they are finished but I am guessing this is not really the case. There is stuff that I can do on them but the truth is that I am never really going to be happy with them. For the time being I am going to keep them on the table and play about with them until I am happy with the final result.

This should really screw up my timetable. Last week I was supposed to finish them and move on and I set myself a goal of finishing them and do another five figures. At the beginning of the week I thought that there was going to be no chance of that happening. Then I started the dryads. I have a dozen of these and I was expecting to finish six of them so that I could be caught up with my goals. Instead I managed to get all twelve of them done, based, varnished and even managed to get some extra bits on the bases.

The week’s work didn’t end there. I have based and primed a load of figures including seven gnolls and another figure that I thought was a gnoll for a while. It turns out it’s actually a beast crafter and to be honest, although I like the figure, it’s probably of no use to me at all. There are a few other figures primed and based. There are a couple of earth golems and a genie ready to go too. These should be easy to get done.

I was a little unhappy with the way the bases on The Walking Dead Miniatures bases had turned out. As well as varnishing them, I put a few tufts on the bases to hide the worst of it. I’ll put these back in the box now, it seems like a good place to put them. I was looking at the new releases for the game. There are another 24 figures due out. Whilst very nice they work out at around £4 per figure. Now I know you get some other bits with them but they are not much use to me. Whilst I like them I am not sure I like them that much.

I think I am prepared to do some long shots of these. Trust me, I have seen them close up and the look is not good. They are repaints so I am not expecting brilliance. Hopefully by the end of the week the first coat will be finished. I am not sure abou…

-STEP BY STEP- Astra Militarum Command Chimera Pt.2

Posted on April 21st, 2017 under , , , , , , , , , , , , . Posted by

HI ALL!

In the previous post (Astra Militarum Command Chimera Pt.1) i’ve shown how i converted the tank…

Now i  want to show you a brief step-by-step on how i’ve painted it 😁

Obviously, i primed with Citadel Chaos Black.
I prefer priming my nimiatures with black primer because it helps with shadows…

Then i’ve painted base colors, with a oblique camo pattern, and i’ve painted all details using masking tape where needed…

At this point is very important to protect the whole model with transparent glossy because it helps with decals and weathering (as described in this post)

After deployed all decals, the chimera is ready for weathering…
PS: Remember to seal the whole model again before weathering! 😉

Now we’re ready to whash the model with oil paints…
I prefer oil paints over standard washes because you have more “control” and they fill the recesses much better and because they dry very slowly, you can add or remove color easily…

(I’ll explain how to use oil paints on future post 😉)

Now the step i love…. WEATHERING!!!!

In the GRIM DARK FUTURE of 40K there are destroyed cities, radiations, acid rains etc etc… so i love to represent the erosion of those environments over the vehicles…

Before start with weatering i searched for images of radiations erosion…

So i took from the drawer my “magic rust kit” 😂…

…and i started with heavy rust and with sponge weathering tecnique…

After the weathering process was finished, i sealed the whole model with Vallejo Matt Varnish, i’ve painted the tank commander and that’s the final result! 😁

I hope you enjoyed this brief tutorial and don’t hesitate to ask me info on “how to do”

See you soon!!!!!! 😉
