UK Games Expo 2017: Batman the Boardgame

Batman the Boardgame first look review

 Batman!

Quite frankly there is part of me that wants to leave this preview as just one word and some photos, but that would be unprofessional of me (although professionalism does seem to always be out of Polyhedron Collider’s grasp) so custom dictates I should annotate the pictures of the quite frankly gorgeous prototype minis with some explanation and musings.

Dice forge uk games expo review

If I was to simply say Dice Forge is Dominion but with dice,  this will not only convey the whole gist of Dice Forge, but also everything that may get you excited or worried about Libellud’s upcoming release. Asmodee and Esdevium were showing off a late prototype of the game at the UK Games Expo 2017 and I got myself a seat to grab a game, well actually my wife saw the game loved the artwork and quickly jumped at the two empty places to give Dice Forge a go.

UK Games Expo 2017 – The Show in pictures

Posted on June 6th, 2017 under , . Posted by

The UK Games Expo was held between 2nd – 4th June 2017 at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham. I thought I’d share some pictures of the weekend, including a number of the games that I mentioned in the podcasts. The trade hall for the show was in Hall 1 of the NEC. This was a pretty big area, and this year was filled with trade stands and areas to play games. Day One Friday was spent in the press preview, wandering around playing a few games, grabbing interviews and taking photos. Our podcast about Friday can be found here Dust 1947 U-Boat The Board Game Unfortunately the interview I recorded with Phalanx games about this wasn’t useable. This looks a really interesting game – it’s a co-operative game where players take the roles of various crew on the U-Boat: Captain, First Officer, Navigator, Engineer. The game is run using an app, and the crew have to respond to various scenarios that occur in real time whilst attempting to complete their mission. This is Das Boot on a board. A really interesting concept – and yes, it’s coming to Kickstarter soon. Gloom over Kilforth & 1066: Tears for Many Mothers Beautiful […]

Since then, we’ve completed the game and had a successful Kickstarter! You’ll be able to buy it from our stand for the first time at UKGE.
This year, we’ve brought some more prototypes to test out on you, so if you’re interested in finding out what we’re creating, drop by and find out!

The latest RPG news from Chaosium…

#47 the straight scoop from the well of chaos…

A new look for the Chaosium.com website…

You might have noticed, we’ve given the Chaosium.com website a bit of a spruce-up. There’s a few kinks to sort out, but we’re pretty happy with the new look…

Chaosium brings games, designers, and its Cult of Chaos to
UK Games Expo

Next week the Chaosium team will be at UK Games Expo, at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham UK.

Cult of Chaos needs GMs for Free RPG Day!

It has been officially announced. Chaosium is bringing RuneQuest back with a new edition of the rules, set in the world of Glorantha. While the official release of the game is still some time off, the first release is the Quickstart Rule book as part of Free RPG Day, this June.

We are a Gold-level supporter, which means 10 copies will be sent to each of the participating stores. In support of this, we are seeking Gamemasters to run “The Broken Tower”, the new adventure that comes as part of the RuneQuest Quickstart.

We’d like you to pair up with a participating Friendly Local Game Store, or if there isn’t one near you, any FLGS that’s willing to let you run a game that weekend.

You run at least one table of the adventure (runs 4-5 hours).

In return, we’ll grant you access to a PDF of the rules and adventure in the week before Free RPG Day, which you need to study and absorb in order to run a great game at the game store. Our 48 page booklet has everything you need to start playing, including 5 pregen characters.

Note: rules for Free RPG Day prohibit playing the game before that date, Saturday June 17th 2018.

Here’s what to do if you want to take part

  • Find a retailer, preferably a participating FLGS, but you can play the game at any game store or similar venue.
  • Contact them about running this adventure that weekend (June 17).
  • Email Todd Gardiner, Chaosium’s Director of Organized Play with the store details. While your at it, if you haven’t done so already join the Cult of Chaos, our organized play and GM program (it’s free).
  • Todd will contact the store to confirm your table reservation and then add you to our GM team!
  • The week before Free RPG Day you’ll get sent the RuneQuest Quickstart PDF

A Sneak Look Inside Call of Cthulhu’s
THE GRAND GRIMOIRE & TWO-HEADED SERPENT

As the print editions of The Grand Grimoire and The Two Headed Serpent make their way to our shores by container ship, our wonderful printers flew us over us some advance copies, direct from the Orient. Here, Chaosium President Rick Meints gives you a sneak look inside each of them:
Remember, buy the PDF now, and you’ll get the full price of the PDF off when you purchase it in print at Chaosium.com

Gen Con update:

Play Call of Cthulhu for a Worthy Cause with James Lowder as your Keeper!

The award-winning writer and editor James Lowder, Chaosium’s Executive Editor for Fiction, is Keeper for a special Call of Cthulhu session at Gen Con in aid of the Worldbuilders charity (“geeks doing good”).
More details at the link.
LICENSEE FOCUS

Our friends at the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society helped inaugurate their new Glendale headquarters earlier this month with a Call of Cthulhu game night. They played our scenario ‘Dead Light’, and we sent over some extra Call of Cthulhu swag for the players.

The HPLHS’s new digs are at 1644 Victory Blvd., Glendale CA 91201
What is Ab Chaos?
(…from Ab Chaos #7, May 31 1992)

Ab – Latin “from”
Chaos – (1) Any condition or place of total disorder (modern vernacular); (2) the disordered state of unformed matter which preceded creation (since Milton, Paradise Lost); (3) the dark, empty space which preceded creation (Greek Mythology); (4) the [formerly] Californian roleplaying game company.

Ab Chaos is an informal newsletter for Chaosium fans. Through our history we have tried to serve the players and gamemasters through craft and art as well as (and sometimes at the expense of) marketing and moneymaking. We appreciate your loyalty, and offer this communication to those who are curious about us, beyond the mere “product”.

It is planned to be informal and irregular. We are, after all, not the Orderium.

Hello Everypony!
We have an exciting little treat for you today – the first of our mini-adventures for Tails of Equestria is available now for download, just click the pic above!
What is a mini-adventure?
Well there is a wonderful game called Tails of Equestria, a game of storytelling and role-playing in which players take control of their very own pony characters to embark on epic adventures across Equestria. They may be saving towns from dragons or stopping a curse from enchanting the ponies of Ponyville, these adventures often take many sessions to complete. A mini-adventure is a little game that can be wrapped up in less than an hour and usually fits in really nicely between other adventures or as an aside, great if not everyone can make it to the game and you don’t want anyone to miss out on the main storyline!
Cool, are there any more?
Yes! But not yet, we will be releasing mini-adventures in the future along with our dice sets, coming late summer!

Meet us at the UK Games Expo in Birmingham!

Are you coming to the biggest UK gaming event of the year?

Make sure you head to the Modiphius website to sign-up for the latest Fallout: Wasteland Warfare news.
ModiphiusCods
We would tell you more, but it’s been classified by Vault-Tec. So, if you want to find out more, then you’ll have to venture out to Modiphius’s settlement at Stand H5 to find out more.
The Modiphius away team will also be inviting you to explore the Final Frontier with Star Trek Adventures the roleplaying game and miniatures line. Check out this exclusive image of Lieutenant Worf from the Next Generation crew set.

We promise that the pins are actually pin-shaped, and not Cyclopean in any way, shape or form. However, the balls are giant d20s, so it won’t be as easy as you think!
