Khârn the betrayer - KILL ! MAIM ! BURN !

Hey there, like I said a little while back, the hobby sometimes comes with some form of self inflicted pressure and with the end of summer, real life comes back in the way, energy levels start to get lower and you end up setting impossible goals like paiting a 11 man gang for Necromunda and 7 models for Strontium Dogs in a month... Stupid I know but as I felt things were getting a bit out of control, I decided to give myself a break... by painting something else !Now for some reason, a guy posting his unpainted 2nd ed Khârn has ignited an odd fire in my heart...I used a lunchbreak to check his Background, got my codices out and had an immediate crush for the guy !Read Moar Skullz »

The Merry Wives of Windsor - RST, Stratford-upon-Avon

Last night Holly and I saw the latest Royal Shakespeare Theatre production - The Merry Wives of Windsor. A truly laugh-out-loud romp that combined Elizabethan England with classic TV references from The Only Way Is Essex, Eastenders, Only Fools and Horses and Allo Allo. This was the first time I had ever seen this play and although the synopsis was a little complicated, the superb performance made it an easy story to follow with fun and humour from the very start. In fact within minutes of the lights going down, I turned to Holly and said "I'm going to enjoy this." And I did. Possibly one of the best nights out for a very long time with more laughs and humour than a Live at the Apollo set. Very well worth seeing and the good news is that although the Stratford performances are finished, the cast is moving on to the Barbican in London  from December - I think we may have to have a visit to the Capitol to enjoy this play again. For more details see this link.Tony (and Holly)

15mm Modern/Sci-Fi Rubble Scenery Bodging........

Wow.....another post........These bad boys are for my city streets for the modern or sci-fi gaming, they are based on old DVD movies discs I was sent but were awful( I think one starred Vinnie Jones in a recent flick), the contents of the bases were found in the bits box ( a mixture of 15mm and HO scale) and the field I live in......I wanted them to be the one colour to show that the thick city dust has settled on everything but nature has started to make it's presence felt......Working on a couple of others to finish the set and today I reached a milestone...50, no not stone.....years old!Who would have thought it.........

Napoleon – Tinder profile vs reality

Have you ever happened to pick up a miniature you painted many years ago, but which you’ve hardly taken any notice of since, and examined it afresh? That happened to me today when I was clearing a wall-shelf in preparation for some house repairs we’ve got coming up. As I was moving a group of rather dusty figures off the shelf, this 28mm model of Napoleon drew my attention. A handwritten note underneath the base informs me that I painted this figure (made by Wargames Foundry, if I recall correctly) fifteen years ago. Since then, I’ve walked past the shelf where it sits numerous times every day. But only today have I actually picked the figure up again and studied it carefully through new eyes. Speaking of eyes, back in those days painting eyes was probably my biggest problem area. I mean, jeepers, creepers, look at those peepers! He’s like something out of Thunderbirds! Nowadays I only hint at eyes with a wash of a darker shade, rather than trying to paint them in detail. The figure

Ahriman, Sorcerer of Tzeentch

For ten thousand years, the seeker of arcane truths known as Ahriman has roamed the galaxy in a quest to acquire every artefact, every tome and every scroll that harbours eldritch powers. Worlds burn in his shadow as he plucks these treasures from their owners by any means necessary. Resistance is the last error his enemies can make – Tzeentchian magic reshapes reality around them, a pass of the Black Staff twisting their bodies unnaturally until nothing remains but bubbling flesh. Ahriman, lord of a broken Legion; his determination is such that destiny itself bends to his whim.Painted for my brother Dennis' collection. It was fun to paint something different. The base is photoshop wizardry because he is going to finish it to match the rest of his army. I just didn't want to post the pic with an unfinished black base!It was probably a mistake because this guy is dead hard and he is absolutely going to kill me...

Weird World War 1 'magician'

Some things in life are more weird than we think we could imagine. Take for example this piece of acoustic equipment designed for 'sound location', that is, locating enemy artillery using the sound of firing. This was the inspiration for the 'magician' I have created for the Weird World War 1 British army. You'll notice that I finally (after all these years) found a use for those two figures from the British World War 1 Infantry set who always seemed to be holding a 'hula hoop' (yes, yes, I know .. it's meant to be a coil of barbed wire). The figure in the centre with the cables attached to his head was a suggestion made by Andy... NICE!!! The attachment of the cables proved to be slightly 'ham fisted', but as long as you don't look too closely, it all works

GASLANDS GAME, episode 1

Our local car smith worked together an intro game for us to play in the post apocalyptic near future, Gaslands. It’s basically a Death Race game ala Car Wars styles but with some really slick mechanics built into the rules.A blurry shot of my cardsMy two vehicles, Machete and Mjr StumblecockCaptain Roshon’s car peel out to my left.Dave’s cars advance from the far end of the table.Robs cars also advance from the opposite table edge.Tim’s ram buggies to my right.I shift up to 3rd gear and go after the buggies. Roshon swarms Machete and shoots him up with MG fire.Shooting my 125mm gun and ramming buggiesDave’s team rounds the corner. The templates in the game are pretty ingenious and dictate movement in the game as well as create effects like slides.Machete’s last days. Some sharp turns at high gears. Shifting into higher gears in the game gives the car more actions in a turn but also make it harder to maneuver. The mechanics play out smoothly.Still ramming and shooting buggies. I had over 6 hazards which is

Blood Bowl Tokens

I painted up tokens for the upcoming Grumble Bowl.  I will use these to mark my re-rolls during my game.  Since I am playing a mixed team I wanted to have one token for each of the different races on my team.  The Grumble Bowl is on September 29th and it will be a fun filled day of gaming with friends.  Until the event I will be spending the rest of this week working on other projects.

15mm Sci Fi Armoured APC Truck

I was in town this afternoon and popped into the local toy shop to see if I could find any Humbrol Grass Green spray paint. I was unlucky but did spot some Matchbox Jurassic World diecast toy vehicles including this very hard sci-fi looking Armoured Action Truck. I bought a couple as wheeled transports for use with my overloaded lead pile of GZG figures, as they are considerably cheaper than the resin or metal alternative. Here's one with a badly painted 15mm GZG Tomorrow's War Brazilian armoured trooper alongside for a scale comparison. That's yet another project that I really should crack on and finish, although I'm tempted just to start a new army rather than slog through the one that I've almost completed!
