Genestealer Kill Teams (and Other Bits)

I may have mentioned I picked up The Writhing Shadow - the Tyranid/Genestealer starter set for Kill Team. I thought it might be a good Kill Team to have as a loaner and use for the ToonCon game - it only comes with Genestealers so it's only ONE troop type to have to worry about and there isn't much variation at all between them - other than the specialist abilities. I know, I know... I could have use the Space Hulk Genestealers... I've actually painted these new ones to match the ones I already painted so they could be used together - including using the same 32mm Necromunda bases. I picked up the box set to get the cards and a little bit more terrain... (I apparently didn't have enough Sector Munitorum Terrain....?)Genestealer Kill Teamthis is actually only 88 points, so I could fit in one more (making it 99) and will likely just borrow one of Finnegan's Space Hulk Genestealers...The figures included COULD be built and assembled to make a team worth 96 points if they were all given Toxin

Terminator Genisys - 1st outing.

Having made an impulse purchase in Warlord sale for Terminator Genisys in the thinking that the rules might work for my Russian Sci-fi project, I thought I would put them through there paces.I already had the buildings for a modern table with plenty of rubble and ruins should be easy to recreate the world according to skynet...  I watched the game play on Beasts of War and the rules seemed to flow quite nicely. I felt the original release price was excessive, but £10 which equates to not even a blister pack of cavalry these days you do get quite a lot for your money.Colour rulebook: 128 pages including modelling guide and points system.A Kyle Reese figure.10 Terminators.5 Crawling Terminators.16 Resistance Fighters.A gaming surface.a number of card barricades and tokens Dice to play the game.I pulled together a quick 500 points to give the rules a work through. Each player takes it in turns to roll the 'Fate' dice this either gives you one or two figures to move or your miss a go and pass the dice to your

The Space Force

The U.S. military depends heavily on space for communications, reconnaissance, and detecting incoming missiles. Russia and China have been building surface-to-air missiles powerful enough to take out a satellite, Albrecht notes, a move that has U.S. officials increasingly concerned. In 2007, China even shot down one of its own aging weather satellites in a test of the technology that the U.S. protested. The Space Force

1st Annual Grumble Bowl - Blood Bowl Torunament

Yesterday What's New with Mike and Jeff in conjunction with Imperial Outpost Gaming hosted the 1st Annual Grumble Bowl - Blood Bowl Tournament.  We had 18 coaches in attendance for a one day 3 round event.  This will be an annual event and next year we should have it NAF approved.I brought a new team, The Renegades of Funk, a Chaos Renegade team made up of different races.  It was a departure from my normal Orc teams that I play but still had an Orc on the team.  I won two of my games and lost one, so not bad for me.  I did cause a lot of causalities along the way because that is how we play Blood Bowl. Enough of me typing let me share some pictures from the event.GW sent us 15 copies of Blood Bowl so we would have enough boards for the event. We had two trophies for the event, Player Choice for Best Painted and the coveted Cactus Cup.  The Cactus Cup is a 3D printed trophy that is approximately 19 inches tall.  It was a $25 entry fee and everyone received a custom stein

The Czechoslovak People’s Army (ČSLA) in Team Yankee

Team Yankee has really captured my gaming imagination over the past couple of years and whilst I started with World War II and Napoleonics, the passion for WWIII has always lurked just under the surface (much like a Los Angeles submarine hunting its prey) waiting for a chance to burst out.I have a few armies on the painting table and for the past few months I've been slowly putting together a plan to add a Czechoslovak force to that list. I cannot really explain why this particular force has captured my eye other than perhaps a strange liking of the Vz.61 Skorpion thanks to playing Twilight 2000 all those years ago?The Czechoslovak People’s Army in Team Yankee is much like the other Warsaw Pact nations in that they have 2nd line tanks with the T-72M and T-55AM2, along with a few other (super cool looking) locally built vehicles like the DANA SP Artillery and OT-64 APC. They lack the really first line gear that the Soviets have but make up for by just being cool.Other than gear, where the Czechoslovaki

MeSBG: The Dead of Dunharrow 'Warriors of the Dead' x10 (2)

We are on the last of September and the last post for the month.  I thought it would be a good way to close off the month with some models that I just completed yesterday. The new Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game starter box came with 20 'Warriors of the Dead', and I finished the first block of 10 on the 18th of this month, so it was time to finish up the second half of the 20.I did purchase another 20 'Warriors of the Dead' and 5 'Riders of the Dead' which I am hoping to maybe get to sometime in October (I should be able to get to the Riders, but we'll see, there are a lot f projects in my backlog). Warriors of the Dead x10 (2) Warriors of the Dead x10 (2)Painting Points: 10

Flashpoint Alto Cenepa: FAE Finished

Mirage F1-JIAI Kfir C2Sepecat Jaguar InternationalBAE StrikemasterCessna T-37B DragonflyBell 212, Aerospatiale Gazelle and PumasAerospatiale GazelleBell 212I've finally finished the FAE aircraft and helicopters for the Alto Cenepa project, with only some rotor discs to add to the latter to complete the line up. I am now ready to try out the Wings at War rules and also set up a Target Locked On! historical scenario with Peruvian SU-22 Fitters against Ecuadorian Mirage F1's. I still need to work out the mechanics for the Alto Cenepa Wings at War variant and produce some ground targets, but otherwise I'm ready to go.

Strike While the Iron is Hot but Heads are Cool - the Battle of Utica 240BC - with a twist in the end

As everyone knows, the Mercenary War was all the fault of two wicked former Roman veterans, Spendius the former Campanian slave, and Mathos the Libyan soldier who didn't know what was good for him. We won at Utica but somehow they escaped. Well, that's what I was taught at school in Carthage, anyway, and so our source equally claimed. Mark did his usual excellent job on balancing the forces for the scenario for Impetus 1, and as the armies deployed the scene looked like this from the eye of the vulture already circling above. The Mercenary forces are nearest, with not all the Carthaginians yet visible - in particular, you cannot yet see their formidable elephants. I was in charge of the Mercenaries, and I decided on a miniature Cannae plan - hold back my few heavy infantry and medium cavalry, whilst throwing forward the javelin-armed skirmishers, the Numidian light cavalry and the Celtic warband in the hope of destroying the elephants, and make the Carthaginians pay for every step forward they took. For Hanno'

Duke Seifried passed away yesterday

Duke Seifried Aug 19, 1935 – Sept 29, 2018Word has come in that Bruce “Uncle Duke” Seifried has passed away from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF).  If you’re in the miniatures gaming hobby, you probably knew of “Uncle Duke”.  He was intimately involved in the creation of the hobby, even before there was such a notion.  Duke was a born salesman.. and more importantly a showman.  He knew that the way to sell the hobby was to sell the sizzle, so he could be seen at all the big conventions back in the late 70s and early 80s, showing off the wares, making connections, and selling the fun.  He was an early pioneer who saw the potential of miniatures with roleplaying games (which was mostly D&D in those days). Duke worked for a lot of companies over the years, TSR, Heritage Models and other outfits (often with whomever he could form an alliance with to market toy soldiers).  By the 1990s, miniature wargaming and “adventure gaming”, as he coined the phrase, had developed into a th
