Zulu War Graves London

A quick 2 day trip to London allowed us to visit a few graves , we missed a lot due to shortage of  time but that gives  us an excuse to visit again .First stop was Chiswick for Fred Hitch VC , a well liked and Brave soldier he fought on with as severe wound ,his popularity continued after the war as his amazing grave stone shows a beutiful monument paid for by public subscription .Fred's Monument ,suitable for Royalty I did a bit of modelling so those that know me can gauge the size of this (im 6ft2")Our Next stop was Brompton there are quite a few AZW veterans here ,plus lots of other amazing people ,veterans of waterloo even a indian chief ,but time allowed us to only find 2 graves  , Lord Chelmsford the villain of the AZW and Charles Robert St Leger Shervington a hero of Eshowe who was recommended for a VC but didnt receive it possibly as he was a volunteer officer in the NNC rather than regular .Sadly he later took his own life ,his body found by his father who he is buried with .His

The Coming of the Americans to the Western Front (WWI)

Vera Brittan serving as a nurse’s aide during WWI Vera Brittan lost her fiance, brother and two closest male friends in the first world war. She wrote Testament of Youth as a cry of outrage and agony, so that the futility of their deaths would be remembered. Eighty years on, it remains one of the most powerful and widely read war memoirs of all time. This short read is my favorite section of this book, where Vera and her fellow nurses (French) witness the arrival of fresh American troops in their sector of the battlefield. The contrast between her nervy war weariness, her cautious upswelling of hope where little was there before… it’s just a fantastic couple of paragraphs, and a perfect addition here. document.createElement('audio'); https://mcdn.podbean.com/mf/download/v2va6m/westernfront-verabrittan.mp3 Initially recorded for my audio boom account, I am moving it on Airy Persiflage due to Audioboom’s pay policies.

The Captain is Dead Board Game Review

Stats: No. of players: 1-7 Amount of time to play: 90 min Age requirements: 12+ Set-up time: 5 min The Captain is Dead is a sci-fi themed cooperative board game. Aliens have attacked your ship, the captain has been killed, and now you need to fix the jump drive to avoid imminent death. The Captain is Dead Rules Description: You start The Captain is Dead by getting a role and some skill cards. Skill cards are used to do things on the ship, like fix things, fire torpedoes, or research upgrades. Your role determines the play order, gives you a special ability, a few starting skills and the number of actions you get on your turn. You win by fixing the jump drive. But you lose if your shields drop to 0%, too many aliens are on the ship or getting to the end of the alert deck. On your turn you can take an action to kill an alien in your space, move up to two spaces, give or take a skill card from another player on your space, or use the action of your current space. Some systems on the ship make these action

Brickworks (terrain piece)

Hello,January belongs to terrain building, no doubts about it.Just about 2 weeks ago I finished lasercut house for Bolt Action and now added another set, once again from Black Grom Studio: Brickworks.Must say I've never felt any fondness for lasecut terrain pieces, always liked building stuff myself - from the scratch. But since we got some buildings for Bolt Action must admit I changed my mind a bit.I am busy. Really, have not much time for hobby so if I want to work on minis it usually takes place late night. Preparing terrain "oldschool way" was fun but also rather time consuming so using lasercut models is just time saver. BIG time saver...As for these below models were assembled and instead of airbrushing walls (which was initial idea) I printed brick textures (available free on Black Grom blog), cut to fit and attached with diluted PVA glue. After glue dried buildings were washed with heavily diluted pigment+was mixture, sprinkled with some powdered chalk and then sprayed with heavu layer of m

More Imperial Assault figures

Finished today are some of the baddies from the Heart of the Empire expansion to Imperial Assault.First up are four figures (two sentry droids and two storm troopers in riot gear) on the simple "indoor" bases that we'd agreed to.The droids are menacing look ( a touch Terminator...). I'm sad the highlighting I did was so muted by the wash. Oh well. The idea of storm troopers in riot gear is an odd one. Nice figures but I'm wondering about the Empire's interest in non-lethal crowd control? Maybe these guys washed out of the Stormtrooper  marksmanship class? There are four of these guys: two on indoor bases and two on rubble bases (bah-dum-bump).I have a few more of the baddies from this expansion to finish up (including a walker, some more droids, and some shapeshifters) before moving onto the next one.

Trumpeter 1/72 scale Russian BTR-80 (review)

Welcome again gentle reader to another post apocalyptic edition of "It's 500 Miles to the German border"In this installment we will be looking at Trumpeter's 1/72 scale BTR-80 kit.Trumpeter's quality so far has worked out very well,  with excellent detailing, and ease of assembly. Most of the parts in their kits fit very well with good overall sculpts. The instructions are pretty easy to follow with minor vagaries in comparison to say Revell (which feels more like Lego instructions). This model I would say is "deceptively simple". As easy as it was, it was just as easy through my own ineptitude to frick it up.Putting together the wheels:The rubber tires and hubs easy- fitting the wheel assembly to the axles was a little trickier. Next time, I should try dry fitting not gluing then sticking on like I did. I wound up twisiting on of the wheels right off and it was a bit of a pain getting it filed and lined up right to go back on. Maybe a bit of work with a knife or pin vise to hollow out the insi

Showcase: Iron Warriors Contemptor Dreadnought by Silvernome

Hey everyone, Silvernome here back with more Chaos Legion goodness!I’ve always been a fan of the Chaos Legions, but since I mostly play Death Guard and Thousand Sons I never really have had the chance to paint the other Legions without building out a force. I’ve always had a soft spot for dreadnoughts, they are just so iconic to Warhammer, so I decided to start collecting Contemptor Dreadnoughts from each legion to give me that chance to paint them all. When I’ve eventually collected and painted them, the grand plan is to make a small diorama to show them off.More after the jump

Bag the Blenheims Air Gunnery Sheet

I've been working away on the set up for the second game of the Lard Day, the Malta based Bag the Blenheims 1941 scenario, so that I have all of the pieces in place before I start to work up the turn cards, briefing sheets and other logistical paraphernalia. This is the first thing I needed to add to my existing game aids, a quick reference sheet for Air Gunnery for whoever takes on the role of No18 Squadron as it wings it's way toward Malta. It's a basic cut and paste job from p32 of the Bag the Hun 2 rule book but a lot easier for the players to refer to than the book itself. I've also finally decided on the pilots and experience levels for the Italian and British fighter formations, which was a lot less straightforward than I originally thought but is now quite nicely balanced, in order to give both sides an even chance of success. I'm going to write up the scenario next, including all the details that I need to run the game for the club playtest.

Choć mieszkańcy Talabheim czczą wszystkich bogów Imperium, to szczególną chwałą otaczają Taala i Rhyę. A najwjwiększa świątynia Kultu Taala i Rhyi znajduje się właśnie w mieście.
