ROMANES EVNT DOMVS IV: The road to Damascus

Imperator Andrew and I clashed recently for the fourth of our L'Art de la Guerre battles over control of late Hellenistic Asia. This time his Triumvirate Romans attacked my Late Seleukids on the road to Damascus. Each of the Roman flank commands consisted of four legionary units (heavy swordsmen, impact, armoured), a group of gladiators (elite heavy swordsmen) and some medium cavalry. His centre was made up of four elite legion units and a couple of skirmishers. The Seleukid left consisted of two units each of mediocre medium Arab camelry, skirmishing archers, Thracian medium swordsmen with two handed rhomphaiai, and mediocre elephants. The centre was made up of four pike phalanxes, two units of reformed legionaries and two scythed chariots. The right was held by four units of cataphracts (two of them elite) and a single unit of horse archers. The command also included two units of elite Cretan archers hiding in an ambush in the field to the far right. The Romans advanced quickly across the open plain, bei

British M3 Grant Squadron

Wow!  It has been 4 months since I last post anything here.  Amazing.  I have been very active in the hobby but I have just not been producing much content.  I have built lots of models lately but I have not finished many projects. This time we have a British M3 Grant Squadron, or company as I call it, comprised of the HQ and three troops, or platoons.  These are 15mm plastic models from Battlefront Miniature for Flames of War.  This was part of an impulse purchase back in October and I was inspired to get them assembled and painted.  They have already seen action in three battles but, sadly, have not yet been victorious.

Corpse World: The Forest Dark

The entire gang was at the dining room table: Me (the GM), Jenn, Isis, Cris, Gil, Carlos, and Carlitos. For some reason conversation before the game had turned to the events of the end of the original Zombie Horror test-game some years back – the last pair of survivors outrunning a nuclear explosion in a helicopter then crashing in the desert. It had sprung out of Carlos wondering, “Where this will all end” and if everyone will die by the end of the campaign. Carlitos mentioned that the military will probably nuke the city and Cris concurred. The original test campaign was a single session escape-the-city scenario that turned into a desperate run-away from everything scenario a la cannonball run. Eventually, the last two players, one of which was Cris, stole a helicopter from a deserted airfield and made their final run for it after finding out the military was going to use a tactical nuclear strike to level the city and wipe-out the zombie-plague. In fact, if I remember correctly, the other two playe

28mm GIJoe HAVOC

1986 brought many strange things to the Joe team and one was the H.A.V.O.CThe H.A.V.O.C. (Heavy Articulated Vehicle Ordnance Carrier) is one of the toughest vehicles in the Joes' arsenal. It is a curious sight. With an impact-resistant, tilt-back canopy and a 2-person prone-position cockpit that take up the whole front cabin, it is surprising that it is actually one of the better armored vehicles and can withstand a lot of punishment. Nevertheless, it is best suited to short, heavy fire campaigns. The H.A.V.O.C. is a well armed vehicle. Its main weapons are the dual "Leveler" 75mm cannons located at the sides of the hydraulic mid-gunnery post. The cannons are recoilless, allowing them to keep moving and firing without missing a beat. A pair of nose guns and a pair of "Repeater" auto-load 9mm machine guns at the rear supplement the H.A.V.O.C.'s firepower. Should the H.A.V.O.C. find itself being chased about, it has 4 "Lancer" bi-pulse anti-armor heat-seeking missiles which can be fired from the rear. Fully arme

The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game Digital Review

One of the obvious sources for digital games are pre-existing board and card games that have already grown in popularity or have an established fan base. These games bring with them a great deal of expectations and presumptions by players, especially for games that have a long line of expansions behind them. And with the […]

War & Empire Kickstarter Arrives: Can a Leadpile Ever be Too Big?

Kickstarter can be a wonderful / terrible thing.  I eagerly backed West Wind productions War & Empire III (after doing War & Empire II back in 2016) and the new miniatures just showed up today. There are 30 packs of minis - 15 for an Early Byzantine army and 15 for an Arab Conquest army.  These will go nicely with my Early Imperial Roman and Sassanid Forces. The figures are 15mm in scale and paint up nicely.  There arrival is timed very nicely in anticipation of the upcoming analog hobbies painting challenge.  Hmmm, Byzantines, Sassanids and Arabs - I wonder if a campaign is in the works?Maybe this is why I was building extra storage.....

RDTN Episode 185: Tabletop Showcase – Klaus and Benny Teuber

Time Segment00:34 Intro03:28 Klaus and Benny Teuber22:35 Rank’em30:23 Thoughts on Starfarers As part of the Tabletop Showcase Event, we have the honor of talking with Klaus and Benny Teuber. There isn’t a lot of introduction needed here or explanation who they are. It is almost fair to say that if you play board games, own board games, or walk down an aisle with board games, you will see the Teuber name. Do I really need to spell out it for you? Fine, Catan. Do want to point out that the interview was shorter than we wanted, but we had to catch them between their engagements at Essen. We had too many questions and just hope that we asked ones you would be interested in. We played RDTN Rank’em, which we do with our first time guests, and pay attention because you might get some valuable insight for how to play your next Catan game. Finally, Marty and I talk about the re-release of Starfarers and our experience. Neither of us have played
