Owen returns with his custom Craftworld to face my Space Wolves in another 1750 ITC mission!
I finished up a few more Epic minis over the weekend...Four plastic Whirlwinds.Seven metal Vindicators (I already have another painted for a total of eight). not sure if any of those things out front count as a Siege Shield...?)All of these will probably be organized into two Spearhead detachments of four Vindicators and two Whirlwinds. I can't seem to find my Apocalypse rules. But I'm pretty sure Spearhead Detachment can have a maximum of six Heavy Support - of which all of these are... (so I can't put ALL the vindicators in one big detachment!)Here's something odd... I have a detachment with four squads of Terminators... and a captain n terminator armour. To transport those Terminators I thought I'd use Land Raiders... unfortunately Terminators are Elites and land raiders are NOT considered Transports - they're considered Heavy Support! A Vanguard Detachment can have up to SIX Elites, but only two Heavy Support... A Spearhead Detachment can have up to SIX Heavy Support... but only two Elites!? WTF!?I also f
I was going to include this in my previous painting update post, but it ended up being so much that I felt it deserved a whole post of its own.I've been toying with the idea of using the new Warhammer 40,000: Apocalypse rules with my "Epic Scale" 40K stuff. Recently I was looking at what I had and took stock and tried to form them into detachments to see how big of a game (in terms of number of units and power level - the minis are really very small...) I could put on the table and what, if anything I'd need to paint to play reasonable sized battle. I found for both Eldar and Space Marines I had in the neighbourhood of 300-400 Power Level. I may paint up a few more items for both forces before I actually get these on the table... I'm shooting for about 400 Power Level on each side.To start with... The EldarASURYANI FORCE for EPIC APOCALYPSEThe entire force (so far!). This comes to about 400 Power LevelThese were previously organized for Future War Commander - where an element is an element and the number of f
The Deathwatch muster to take on the Aeldari in another Adepticon Competitive play pack scenario as I’m joined by Owen from Gaming with the Cooler.
I’m back with Owen from Gaming with the Cooler to throw down my Death Guard against his new Aeldari warband!
Now then,I collected an Eldar army way back in the early 90s when I was but a youth. Since restarting my 40k addiction last year I have tarted them up somewhat. There were lots of broken models, all chucked in a box, and left for years. Ive always liked the models so it seemed a shame. The mainstay of the army are of course the guardian squads. Mine are made up of very old metal miniatures from the late 80's and early 90's.Supported by war walkers and a wraith lord.Leading them in battle are the farseer and warlock conclave.Of course no Eldar or Aeldari as they are called these days, would be complete without Aspect Warriors. The most common type are of course the Dire Avengers, led by their Exarch.Next up we have the Fire Dragons. Led by their Exarch with his fire pike. Now we come to one of my favourite units, the Warp Spiders. Swooping Hawks, useful troops, but fragile.Striking Scorpions. My largest Aspect squad, useful as bodyguards for my characters or to be left lurking in the shadows, waiting t
Owen has scrounged enough Eldar ships for a fleet! The Alpha Legion muster a response as we take to the table for a Cruiser Clash.
One of my oldest and favouritest gaming pals dropped me a line on Thursday or Friday and said he'd be in town on Saturday and wondered if I'd be able to play a game! All plans were cleared away as this was a moment I'd been looking forward to for, literally, a decade or more!I met Woody over thirty years ago when he took over management of The Wizard'd Corner - Saskatoon's first gaming store. He is actually responsible for my introduction to the world of Warhammer - through Warhammer Fantasy Battle - and got me seriously collecting and painting miniatures for massed battles. Oh, I had had miniature figurines before that, but they were mostly for role-playing. I'd actually also owned AD&D's Battlesystem - but had only ever played it once or twice - with counters...He had planned to run a campaign for Warhammer Fantasy Battle - each of us involved bought a huge sheet of hexagonal grid paper - I feel like it was 20"x24" with 3/4" hexes...? We were all to draw our own starting lands on that and the idea was a
Twotwill Island, Xoxigar Tertium (Imperial World)3.537.019.M42The Asuryani of the Biel-Tim Fleet shifted their focus from Xoxigar Secondus, to the more lush Xoxigar Tertium. Farseer Thymiltelyir foretold of a comet making landfall on a remote island of the world. At the centre of the comet would be an extremely rare element that was vital to the continued survival of their fleet. The warhost under his command had hoped that they would be leaving the hated Astartes behind on Xoxigar Secondus, but as they arrived at the site, there they were... just waiting for them... As the two forces approached to engage each other, debris from the comet coming apart started falling from the sky. On Thursday afternoon I had another game of Warhammer 40,000: Apocalypse - this time with Orion and his Space Wolves.A Warhost of the Biel-Tim Fleet, having successfully executed a mission against the Mon-Keigh, regrouped at the rally point and prepared for extraction through the webway...Just as they were making their final preparations for extraction, the wolf-lords of Fenris struck! On Wednesday evening Other Tim and I tried a smaller game of Apocalypse - each of us had around 100 points...Throshi Station, Xoxigar Secondus (Mechanicus Forge World)4.525.019.M42There was a brief, desperate cry for help, and then silence. Throshi Station had gone dark.In the following hours, rumours spread of a massacre. The Eldar had come from seemingly nowhere, in the middle of the night, and killed everyone in the remote mining and processing station on Xoxigar Prime. This followed the modus operandi of the perfidious Eldar - strike with surprise and excessive violence and then disappear as quickly as they had arrived... except... they didn't disappear this time. A force was holding the station for some reason, at least temporarily. Long enough for a company of the Emperor's Brethren Space Marine Chapter to mount a counter-attack!FORCESAeldari Forces of the Biel-Tim FleetAsuryani Battalion Detachment - Beil-Tim Fleet (as Biel-Tan) HQ Farseer - 4 PL - War MasterWarlock - 3 PLTroopsDire Avengers
I finished the last of my Tempest Heavy Grav-Tanks last night - just in time for this afternoon's game of Apocalypse against Other Tim.A complete Super Heavy Detachment of Tempest Heavy Grav-Tanks (being used as Scorpions). The models are old Armorcast models, which I picked up off of eBay over the last year. The latest addition.I've decided to give each a name as it seems that's an aeldari thing to do... Like the names of their Titans, their names are rather long. The short version of this tanks name is "T'chylmylwynbil". The literal translation of the long name is "The Five-Legged Beast That Stalks Its Prey by Night, Which Lasts Forever"Oh, those Eldar...I have come up with names for the others as well....This one is "Dilytichylmywil" (again, the shorter version - or nick name). The full translation is "Flowering Plant with Excessively Large Sex Organs That Makes the Mon-Kee Blush, But is Very Sustaining and Tastes Good in Soup".I assure you it's much more poetic (and makes more sense) in it's ori
Finished up just in time for my next game of Apocalypse! (Just need to finish up the last one and they can be fielded as a complete Super Heavy Detachment!)An Eldar Tempest Heavy Grav-Tank from Armorcast.Another ViewThe two of them together! The next one will have a light turquoisy-blue...Here they are with a few other models to get a sense of scale. At some point I might make a base for them and raise them off the ground a touch to look a little bigger/taller and like they're floating a little bit...?Coming Soon to Tim's Miniature Wargaming Blog:I played a game of Apocalypse last night with Other Tim and another one this afternoon with Orion... so hopefully I'll get some game reports posted for those...After that...? I think I'll crank out the last Tempest and THEN I'll get cracking on some Necromunda. I'd wanted to start a (trail) campaign THIS weekend so I could wrap it up before September when I play to run another with a few more people...
After Sunday's first crack at the apocalypse, everyone was anxious to have another go... and... since it's summer holidaze... We played another game on Monday. This one went a bit quicker and we played, more or less, to it's conclusion. While the Thaestalyrdaes Craftworld was defending the ruins of Belylath, another fierce battle was brewing elsewhere on the Exodite World of Elamdavar around the desert settlement of Gilfahith....
