More Dire Avengers

It's the Victoria Day long weekend her in Canada and I stayed up stupid late last night to finish up this latest batch of Dire Avengers....Two batches of five old metal Dire Avengers models from Games workshop. The two groups will join my two existing squads to make two squads of TEN!I do have a few more Dire Avengers (5 or 6?), which, at some point, I'll paint up to use as a third squad... and some day I might try to track down a few more figures to make it a full unit of ten as well...For now, this completes the force I'll be taking to the Strange Bedfellows Team Tournament in June.Base Detachment - Biel-Tim (as Biel-Tan).My 1000-point Asuryani "Base Detachment" force for the Strange Bedfellows Team Tournament in June. MORE Mistakes Were Made...

That thing I said about "No more eBay purchases"...?Mistakes were made.Actually, I did kind of tell myself I wasn't going to purchase anymore stuff off eBay... UNLESS one of these came along for a not-too-unreasonable price! Then that kind of happened.Anyone paying REALLY close attention to the previous post might have noticed me mention some... stuff... needing to be painted.Anyway, I woke up to this notification...and I may have squealed like a little girl and then done a happy dance...Then these showed up today...An old Armorcast Eldar Phantom Titan and an equally old Armorcast Eldat Tempest Heavy Grav Tank. Some of my other Aeldari Heavy Hitters - that all still need to be painted (or... Repainted). I also have a Wraithknight, but it's in pieces still and couldn't be propped up for the photo!Looking at these, I'd seriously like to get a second Revenant Titan and third Tempest...For a sense of scale here they are with my Imperial titans, a squad of infantry and Keira's Wraithknight - which is almo

Painting Plans

It is, of course, the height of ridiculousness to think I could make a plan for what I'm going to paint ALL YEAR and expect I would actually stick to it.... ALL... YEAR.... I do recognize, however, that it is good to have SOME kind of plan and that I'm generally far more productive if I have a plan and am, more or less, sticking to it.I was looking, recently, at the 2019 Painted Versus Purchased page I have listed over on the right under "Pages" and had a good look at the "Things I'd Like to Paint in 2019" list. Here is what was on that...Reaver Battle TitanRedemptionist Necromunda GangImperial Knight PaladinImperial Knight WardenRatskin Necromunda GangCawdor Necromunda GangBattle Sisters (~15 if them to finish off)Tallarn (LOADs to do)Valhallans (LOADs to do)Craftworld Eldar (LOADs to do) - working on it!Harlequins (Two Troupes and an Troupe Leader)Grey Knights (Two Strike Squads and Castellan Crowe)Drukhari Battalion (LOADs to do)Rogue Trader Crew - Elucidian Star StridersGellerpox MutantsBlacksto

Wraithguard

Just finished up a few more Aeldari I'm planning to use for the Strange Bedfellows tournament coming up in June...Wraithguard!I've had one of these models for years and never really got around to painting it up because I could never find enough others to make a unit. Oh, they're available out there on eBay, it's just that people want so much for them! So, I was REALLY EXCITED when I saw there was a full unit of five included in the Big Batch of Eldar I recently picked up - especially considering how well my Wraithlords have been doing in games - AND how well Keira's Wraithblades fared in our latest game. Here is the rest of the force, so far... I just have ten Dire Avengers to finish up the 1000 point force. I hope to have them done by the end of the weekend - and then it's on to painting Drukhari!Coming Soon to Tim's Miniature Wargaming Blog:Ten Dire Avengers seems most likely.I've also had a post about painting plans for the year congealing in my brain matter, that might show up soonish. It is the Victoria Da

Path of the Outcast

I finished up the Rangers I need for the Strange Bedfellows tournament coming up in June."Need" is a funny word to use there, as I did not NEED them at all. I have other painted rangers I could have used...But they don't MATCH!?It's true, I AM a special kind of stupid...MORE Aeldari Rangers in the Cool Alien Camouflage (cool as in cool colours - Blue, Green, Purple... as opposed to the Warm Alien Camouflage). One of them is a conversion that I used a Drukhari head on. not because I thought, "Hey, it would be cool to put a Drukhari head on one of these rangers...", but because one of the Ranger minis I got in the recent Big Batch of Eldar didn't have a head... and I had lots of Drukhari heads... and I recently read Path of the Warrior by Gav Thorpe and one of the Striking Scorpion characters is later revealed to be a Drukhari that was captured or surrendered in a battle against the Alaitoch craftworld and somehow became one of them...? I thought, of all the paths, the Path of the Outcast (which the Rangers foll

Strange Plans

There is another tournament coming up in town called "Strange Bedfellows) that I thought I might get in on. The format seems interesting - it's a four-player team tournament. Each team has four players, each of which brings 1000 points. There are three rounds, during each you will partner with each of your different teammates against two teammates from one of the other teams.I got kind of excited thinking maybe the whole family could go! The Girl and I could play Asuryani (Craftworld eldar), Amanda could play her Drukhari, and I though perhaps between mine and The Girl's Harlequin forces we might be able to put together 1000 points for Finnegan to play with.As it turns out Amanda's away that weekend, and The Girl and I have nowhere NEAR enough of the right Harlequin stuff to put together 1000 points of them. Partly because our forces of painted stuff are small, but mostly because the allowed detachments are pretty restrictive!None of the regular detachments are allowed. Only these:Initially, when I read the c

The Battle of the Denfeld Wastes - Part Two

Carrying on from PART ONE played the night before... I'd hoped to finish the game off in the morning, but we were distracted by the arrival of Hellboy: The Board Game! Luckily we had some time in the afternoon to finish off the game before heading out to dance classes!ROUND THREE - ASTRA MILITARUMFirst platoon started off the firing, unloading on the Hulking Avatar of Khaine lumbering their way... but the fire seemed to have no effect on it at allHalf a league, half a league, Half a league onward, All in the valley of Death rode the.... five? The Sniper Section poured fire down on the Wraithblades - finishing off one of them!Second Platoon broke cover and rushed the Aeldari Rangers position. At close range, Lt. The Battle of the Denfeld Wastes - Part One

So with all this painting of Eldar lately, The Girl's been getting interested in 40K and her own Aeldari forces. Excited enough that she started reading some of the Black Library novels she picked up a while ago and even went halfsises with me on a big lot of Eldar a local dude was selling. She's been busily prepping and priming her new acquisitions the last few days and then, on the weekend, actually asked if we could play a game - well, I knew to strike while the iron was hot and set up a game for us on Monday evening...SITUATION4.347.019.M42- Xoxigar SecondusAn Aquila Lander has crashed in the Denfeld Wastes. Artifacts acquired by the Deathwatch - the Chamber Militant of the Inquisition's Ordos Xenos - were aboard. Items of vital importance to the Inquisition and the safety of the Imperium! As the 5th Company, 382nd Tallarn (Desert Raider) Regiment were the closest imperial forces stationed near the crash site they were tasked with securing the site until members of the Inquisition could be broug

Mistakes Were Made...

It wasn't eBay... So the fellow that ran Battleforce Recon sent me a message last week... He was looking to sell of his brother's old Eldar army and knew I was into the old metal minis and so thought he'd offer them to me. Now... I totally was not looking to expand my army at this point, but it was and INSANELY good deal... I also totally did not need ALL of this stuff... but conveniently The Girl also has an Eldar army and I was pretty sure she would be interested in a bunch of the stuff that I didn't need. So we ended up going halfsies on it.Old School Rangers which I'll add to my existing squads. The Girl is taking the newer rangers behind them,  as she has a few of these (though in finest). Also three more Fire Dragons and some Wraith Guard... The Girl is taking the Wraithlord (as I already have three) and the Autarch and Farseer and two warlocks. she's taking Fuegan (because I already have one) and I'm taking Jain Zar (because SHE already has one). We're splitting the Banshees, I'm onl

Get Morty!

The Seer Council, following a probability thread through the skeins of fate, determined the future of an Exodite world is in extreme peril. Bother Mortis ("Morty", to his friends) of the Emperor's Brethren Chapter will one day rise to prominence and eventually perpetuate a genocide against the exodites. The Seers have divined this Marine's moment of peak vulnerability is at hand. A Battle Host was summoned to slip through the web ways and set up an ambush to intercept a marine strike force that includes Brother Mortis. The Marines had just engaged a large force of Orks on Xoxigar Primus and return to their Thunderhawk gunships, secured in a nearby landing zone, fatigued and low on power, fuel, and ammunition. They will not be in a position to engage in a protracted battle. SCENARIOWe played the Ambush Scenario straight out of the Core Rulebook - except on a much smaller table. As the table was smaller, we shortened the scenario by one turn. Essentially the defending Marines had 4-6 turns to get 1/3

Battleforce Recon 2019

Sunday I was over at the Dragon's Den participating in Battleforce Recon. Last year the event was held at Mana Bar, but Mana Bar has since closed... So they held it at the Den...It was pretty crowed back there... and this is before the War Wars: X-Wing guys showed up!I think there were around 24 players....?After the first round there was a break for lunch and everyone put out their armies on display. Last year I was the only one that brought a display board - this year, a lot of others had them! So many great armies! This was one of my favourites: Chad Jordan's Death Guard!Chaos Space MarinesMore Chaos Space MarinesSTILL More Chaos Space MarinesSone of STILL More Chaos Space MarinesI think these were Tom's Khorne Daemon HordeThere was at least one more Chaos player - they fellow with the Death Guard I played in Round One. Some just didn't put their stuff out on display....SO maybe 7 chaos...? about a third of the forces...?Ultramarines! I think there was at least one other Ultramarines player - or maybe Crims

40K - Asuryani versus Grey Knights

Wednesday evening I pedalled over to Robyn's house to play some 40K. I've been trying to get together and play a game of 40K or Kill Team with Robyn for ages, but things just haven't worked out. Well this week they finally did! We both brought out 1000-point forces to practice for the Battleforce Recon tournament we're both playing in this coming Sunday. Robyn played Grey Knights and I played my Asuryani (Craftworld Eldar).SCENARIOWe played Mission #2 - Cut Off the Head, from the tournament pack. Our commanders were were apparently gathering for a crucial tactical meeting when battle was joined. Each player allocated 3 Intel Points, as evenly as possible, between the CHARACTERS in their army, and notes this down on their army roster. If your army has no CHARACTERS, 1 Intel Point would instead allocated to the Warlord. I had three characters so each got 1 Intel Point. Robyn only had one two - so one of them had two points, the other had one.Crucial Intel:  At the end of the third battle round, and at

Howling Banshees

The last unit I need for the tournament on Sunday (and my practice game tomorrow): some Howling Banshees.Howling Banshees from Citadel Miniatures/Games Workshop. These are a mix of the older and the not-quite-so-old-but-still-old-compared-to-most-other-factions-models models.I have one more inbound - one of the slightly less older, but still old enough to be cast in metal Banshee Exarchs. And here is the complete warmest I'll be fielding in the tournament...I have no idea how they'll do, but... whatevs... If it's anything like last year, it will be a good time regardless!Coming Soon to Tim's Miniature Wargaming Blog:I still have some pics from last Saturday's Kill Team games I'd like to post... and tomorrow I'll be playing some actual 40K with the above War Host which I'll hopefully get lots of pics of.After that...? Well there'll for sure be a report of Sunday's tournament...And then...? More painting probably... but I have no idea what!? So many things I want to work on... more Eldar, a bunch of models for Jo

Aeldari Additions

I finished up a few more Eldar minis over the weekend - staying up way too late last night to do so - so I could play a practice game with my slightly jigged 1000-point Asuryani force for the Battleforce: Recon Tournement this coming Sunday... and then I woke up to a message saying my opponent's mom was sick and we'd have to play later in the week... Ehhh... not a big deal - these are done and by the time I do get to play him, I'll have them ALL done! (The only thing I have left to do is finish the Howling Banshees - I would have borrowed a few of The Girl's for this evenings game). The new batch - two Warp Spiders, a squad of five Dire Avengers, and another Wraithlord. The new squad of Dire Avengers. I now have two painted. I have a third to paint - plus I just ordered a few more to add to ones I have to field larger squads. At some point I might pick up a few more - so I could potentially field three squads of ten.Two more Warp Spiders....Which finishes up a squad of ten. I have a few more of these inbound as

Ruins of Station 5743b

The place was dead. There was no sound save for the incessant wind howling through the ruins of the station. It seemed an unlikely place, but the skeins of fate had shown the Farseer that that a weapon lay hidden beneath the ground. A Weapon that, if it fell into the wrong hands, could spell the doom of the Biel-Tim fleet. They were not alone. The Star Soldiers of the Mon-Kee where here. The ignorant, meddling, unpredictable Mon-Kee. So belligerent and full of blind hatred for all they do not understand. And there was just so much that they did not, nor could they ever, understand.Last night Other Tim came by to try out Warhammer 40,000 (8th Edition). Other Tim is an old school 40K player that played the game for over 20 years, through 6 editions off the game, but finally threw in the towel at 7th Edition. For some reason, however, he's dragged his toys out of the closet, dusted them off and decided to have a go at 8th.We played a smaller game (1000 points) for him to just try out the rules and for me to try o
