No Game No Life 2 - Yuu Kamiya

And so I finished the second volume of the novels from this most fantastic anime series.Which also means I am going to need the next two or three soonish to continue reading, because now it starts getting intresting. In this second volume, we go until right before the end of the anime itself, as the gamer siblings Sora and Shiro declare that they will take over the animal kingdom of Werebeasts.  To that end, they first defeat a Flugel, Jibril, who will follow the siblings as a servant from now on.In the meantime, Stephanie has given the key to save Immanity to Sora, which unlocks the study of her mad king grandfather and contains knowledge on the Werebeasts and their game, knowledge that not only proves he wasn't mad after all, but might also bring victory to the monarchs of Elkia. The book ends shortly before the end of the anime, as the battle and result as such of the nations game vs the Werebeasts is for issue 3, and we saw in the series how that went.  But after that, it is all new territory to r

Future War Commander YMS-15 Gyan

The first of the Gundam models for my Cav Open Market list has been rolled off the painting desk today.I went for the "bottlecap" scale of the figures, which are around the 1/400 scale, so technically a little smaller then 6mm (at 1/300 up and about) but perfectly in size for FWC gaming, as every model stands about as big as a 32mm Heroic figure from Age of Sigmar and the likes. The models come in soft plastic, attached to a plastic bottle cap, so step 1 war removing the cap of course, and then the model was undercoated over it's pre-painted layer.  My beloved 'two layer cell shading' style works perfectly for these sorts of models (heck, it's due to them I started painting like that years ago) and the first walker for the walker filled army list was ready.Ruleswise, being not a Gundam but a "not so mass-produced' Mobile Suit, it's going to use the rules for the "Assassin" class, which is in theme with it being a close combat suit, with a secondary missile launcher system (mounted in the shield), at 260 p

Fate / Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works prologue

This is kind of something special to be honest in my year's long anime "career".This prologue, or episode 0 as it is called, is exactly the same as the very first (double length) episode of the series, only now seen from the viewpoint of Rin instead of Shirou. So the whole episode tells exactly the same story, with the same events and timetable, ending the moment Lancer runs through Emiya Shirou for being a witness to the Servant battle... only now it is all seen as Rin experienced the first day of the Holy War.This gives the whole prologue a pretty cool feeling to be honest, because even if you have seen it, it is completemy different yet more the same.  I know that sounds confuzzling, but I guess you have to experience that for yourself. And it offers a great insight into Rin's motivations for the war, and how she ended up wih Archer...

Fate / Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works season 2

The story of the war for the Holy Grail continues, and the mystery about what is going on with Archer deepened. And then I went out and made a bold theory with Noshi...In that Archer is actually Shirou from the future, Lancer would be his sevant (at first I thought it would be the priest's) and that Archer intervened in Rin's ritual to appear in this world.  And it all turned out to be like that, except that Lancer was indeed the priest's and not Archer's servant.Having completed 250+ anime series seems to form your way of thinking watching anime x-DBut in this second season, the antagonists start to fall as the road to completion is being taken.  Some emotionally like Berserker and his master by the hands of Gilgamesh, some rather relieving like how Shinji falls... to his own servant. The battles are more epic in this second season, and the way Archer confronts his past self adds a great Cause and Effect loop to the storyline: Shirou copies the swords of Archer, who has them from his younger days whe

Date a Live season 3

The hilarious harem anime is back in 2019, with the third season of the adventures of Shidou who has to seal spirit powers away by kissing them.It has been 5 years since the second season was aired, but it was worth the wait as it is just as comical as it's predecessors. The season actually has two arcs, and in the first a new spirit makes her appearance, a witch like one called Natsume.  Shidou is forced to save his friends from being erased to play in her magical game and to make her fall for him to seal her powers. But the second arc is the mainliner, as Origami, hellbound on destroying all spirits, becomes one herself.  However, when she finds out the truth about who actually killed them, Shidou is forced to travel back to the past with the help of Kurumi.  He manages to change history, but in doing so doesn't get the result he actually hoped for...And then there is the final episode where Shidou has to be the one to be swooned by the spirits...A good season with a lot of laughs, as the vario

No Game No Life 1 - Yuu Kamiya

Okay, I LOVE this anime, it's in my top 3 of best series together with Saint Seiya and Gundam. But unfortunatly, it only was adapted for a single season and a movie... so to know how the story continues, one needs the novels, manga's and spinoffs. In this fantasy world, everything's a game - and these gamer siblings play to win!Meet Sora and Shiro, a brother and sister who are loser shut-ins by normal standards.  But these siblings don't play by the rules of the "crappy game" that is average society.  In the world of gaming, this genius pair reigns supreme, their invincible avatar so famous it's the stuff of urban legend. So when a young boy calling himself God summons the siblings to a fantastic alternate world where war is forbidden and all conflicts - even those involving national borders - are decided by the outcome of games, Sora and Shiro have pretty much hit the jackpot. But they soon learn that in this world, humanity, cornered and outnumbered by other species, survives within the confines of on

Fate / Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works season 1

So Noshi and me have finally started the whole Fate / Stay franchise, though it might not be chronologically on how we watch them...Because Netflix has only a few entries of the series so far, and we started with this one.The Holy Grail War is a battle royale among seven magi who serve as Masters. Masters, through the use of the command seals they are given when they enter the war, command Heroic Spirits known as Servants to fight for them in battle. In the Fifth Holy Grail War, Rin Toosaka is among the magi entering the competition. With her Servant, Archer, she hopes to obtain the ultimate prize—the Holy Grail, a magical artifact capable of granting its wielder any wish. One of Rin's classmates, Emiya Shirou, accidentally enters the competition and ends up commanding a Servant of his own known as Saber. As they find themselves facing mutual enemies, Rin and Shirou decide to form a temporary alliance as they challenge their opponents in the Holy Grail War. It's a lovely series, and I really li

For reasons yet to be revealed, Symbol has used Miharu's Gasara dance to unleash a large blast of energy in the fictional post-Soviet Republic of Belgistan. Boku No Hero Academia the Movie: Futari no Hero

The current 'big thing' in anime, and a very enjoyable series, made it's theatrical debut in the summer of 2018.So I sat down with Noshi, who also likes the series, to watch the first movie before the 4th season kicks off later this year.Deku and All Might receive an invitation to I-Expo, the world’s leading exhibition of Quirk abilities and hero item innovations! Deadman Wonderland Akai Knife Tsukai

While we will probably never see a second season of this great anime series, there was an OVA released as well from it.Called Akai Knife Tsukai, it follows Senji in his days before being incarcerated in deadman Wonderland, when he works as a police officer. Two years after the catastrophic tidal wave that swept over Japan, police officer Kiyomasa Senji is trying to make the world a safer place. Using his Branch of Sin powers, he stops criminals in whatever ways he can. After rescuing a boy named Izuru Tsukiyoshi from a gang called Goreless Peace, the conflict between Kiyomasa and his adversaries heats up rapidly, to the point of being explosive.Offering a glimpse into the past of the future Deadman, the story follows Senji, helping to further develop the reasoning that drives his actions later in life.A one episode of 20+ minutes story, this does give some insight, though it doesn't tell exactly how he got incarcerated.  Though it does give a hint at how his clock got ticking...
