Asuryani

Legio Amare Feles Walks...

One of my oldest and favouritest gaming pals dropped me a line on Thursday or Friday and said he'd be in town on Saturday and wondered if I'd be able to play a game! All plans were cleared away as this was a moment I'd been looking forward to for, literally, a decade or more!I met Woody over thirty years ago when he took over management of The Wizard'd Corner - Saskatoon's first gaming store. He is actually responsible for my introduction to the world of Warhammer - through Warhammer Fantasy Battle - and got me seriously collecting and painting miniatures for massed battles. Oh, I had had miniature figurines before that, but they were mostly for role-playing. I'd actually also owned AD&D's Battlesystem - but had only ever played it once or twice - with counters...He had planned to run a campaign for Warhammer Fantasy Battle - each of us involved bought a huge sheet of hexagonal grid paper - I feel like it was 20"x24" with 3/4" hexes...? We were all to draw our own starting lands on that and the idea was a

Coming of the Comet

Twotwill Island, Xoxigar Tertium (Imperial World)3.537.019.M42The Asuryani of the Biel-Tim Fleet shifted their focus from Xoxigar Secondus, to the more lush Xoxigar Tertium. Farseer Thymiltelyir foretold of a comet making landfall on a remote island of the world. At the centre of the comet would be an extremely rare element that was vital to the continued survival of their fleet. The warhost under his command had hoped that they would be leaving the hated Astartes behind on Xoxigar Secondus, but as they arrived at the site, there they were... just waiting for them... As the two forces approached to engage each other, debris from the comet coming apart started falling from the sky. FORCESAeldari Forces of the Biel-Tim FleetAsuryani Battalion Detachment - Biel-Tim Fleet (as Biel-Tan) HQ Farseer - 4 PL - War MasterWarlock - 3 PLTroopsDire Avengers (5) - 4 PLDire Avengers (5) - 4 PLDire Avengers (5) - 4 PLDire Avengers (5) - 4 PLElitesHowling Banshees (5) - 5 PLAsuryani Battalion Detachme

Another Tempest Heavy Grav-Tank

Finished up just in time for my next game of Apocalypse! (Just need to finish up the last one and they can be fielded as a complete Super Heavy Detachment!)An Eldar Tempest Heavy Grav-Tank from Armorcast.Another ViewThe two of them together! The next one will have a light turquoisy-blue...Here they are with a few other models to get a sense of scale. At some point I might make a base for them and raise them off the ground a touch to look a little bigger/taller and like they're floating a little bit...?Coming Soon to Tim's Miniature Wargaming Blog:I played a game of Apocalypse last night with Other Tim and another one this afternoon with Orion... so hopefully I'll get some game reports posted for those...After that...? I think I'll crank out the last Tempest and THEN I'll get cracking on some Necromunda. I'd wanted to start a (trail) campaign THIS weekend so I could wrap it up before September when I play to run another with a few more people...

Eldar Tempest Heavy Grav Tank

In preparation for some Apocalyptic action this weekend, I finished up the first of my (three) Eldar Tempest Heavy Grav Tanks the I have. this first one, I picked up last fall, I picked another up a month or so ago... and the third, well... it's still in the mail. But I figured I might as well get three so I could field a full Super Heavy Detachment with them.An old Eldar Tempest Heavy Grav Tank produced by Armorcast under license from GW.Now, there aren't any rules for a Tempest Heavy Grav-Tank anymore... but there is the Scorpion, which is armed with a "Twin Scorpion Pulsar" so I figured that's close enough...In it's day it was a pretty big model... compared to the original rhinos and the Falcon's that armorcast made... now... I guess it's still bigger than the current plastic Falcons, so... hopefully I can still get away with it!When I actually finish painting one of the Falcons I have, I'll post some pictures of them together for scale.Coming Soon to Tim's Miniature Wargaming Blog:Played our first Ap

Thaestalyrdaes Craftworld

Keira's Asuryani force has been growing a lot lately (especially with the push to get a few units completed for the Strange Bedfellows 40K Team tournament) and I've been meaning to get a picture of the complete force so far...This represents a War Host of the Thaestalyrdaes Craftworld (using Biel-Tan rules)What she has here is:HQFarseerAutarchJain ZarAvatar of KhaineTroops10 Dire Avengers10 Rangers30 Guardian DefendersElite20 Howling Banshees5 WraithbladesFast Attack6 Swooping HawksHeavy Support1 Wraith LordLord of War1 WraithknightWith the exception of the two units of Guardians I recently painted while experimenting with Contrast paints, there were all entirely painted by Keira. This force could probably be fielded as three detachments - An Auxiliary Super Heavy Detachment (the Wraithknight), a Vanguard Detachment (Jain Zar leading all the Howling Banshees split into three units) and a Battalion Detachment (with all the rest).Dammit.... I just realized I'm missing a mini from this picture - she has a warlock

Guardian Defenders, T'au, Kroot, Cawdor Juves and a Really Big Rat...

A bit of an odd assortment of 40K related things rolling off the workbench today. A lot of this is actually for the kids. I've been experimenting with... well... other ways of painting. Not for me, I like the black undercoating and leaving that hard black line between things for contrast and deep shadow. When I got the kids painting I tried to teach them the same, but I've come to realize it requires a bit of finesse and attention to detail to pull it off and without that... well... it doesn't look good... So I thought I'd experiment with other things to see if I could help them find a different painting style that suits their needs and/or speeds up their production so they can get things DONE!Some of these were started a couple weeks ago, but were then put on the back burner as I needed to push to finish the last often Drukhari that we needed for the Strange Bedfellows Team Tournament. Some are ones I tried spraying with coloured primer (purple) and then washed with either Nuln Oil or Druchii

Strange Bedfellows 40K Team Tournament

This weekend I attended the Strange Bedfellows Team Tournament in Saskatoon with The Kids and Other Tim. It was a long tiring day - made longer and more tiring by the fact that I was up stupid late trying to put last minute touches on Amanda's Drukhari that Finnegan was taking to the tournament and only got about an hour of sleep before getting up again to get ready to get out to the tournament. All that aside, though, it was a pretty damned good day...There were TEN teams participating, each with four players - each player bringing a force of 1000 points. Each round a team would be matched up against another team and they would then play two concurrent games, each with two members of one team facing off against two members of the other team. There were specific Detachments that we were required to use and I found them to be a little restrictive and difficult to put a force together for. Probably because it seemed to favour a style of play  totally counter to my own. To me, it seemed to give preference to

More Dire Avengers

It's the Victoria Day long weekend her in Canada and I stayed up stupid late last night to finish up this latest batch of Dire Avengers....Two batches of five old metal Dire Avengers models from Games workshop. The two groups will join my two existing squads to make two squads of TEN!I do have a few more Dire Avengers (5 or 6?), which, at some point, I'll paint up to use as a third squad... and some day I might try to track down a few more figures to make it a full unit of ten as well...For now, this completes the force I'll be taking to the Strange Bedfellows Team Tournament in June.Base Detachment - Biel-Tim (as Biel-Tan).My 1000-point Asuryani "Base Detachment" force for the Strange Bedfellows Team Tournament in June. MORE Mistakes Were Made...

That thing I said about "No more eBay purchases"...?Mistakes were made.Actually, I did kind of tell myself I wasn't going to purchase anymore stuff off eBay... UNLESS one of these came along for a not-too-unreasonable price! Then that kind of happened.Anyone paying REALLY close attention to the previous post might have noticed me mention some... stuff... needing to be painted.Anyway, I woke up to this notification...and I may have squealed like a little girl and then done a happy dance...Then these showed up today...An old Armorcast Eldar Phantom Titan and an equally old Armorcast Eldat Tempest Heavy Grav Tank. Some of my other Aeldari Heavy Hitters - that all still need to be painted (or... Repainted). I also have a Wraithknight, but it's in pieces still and couldn't be propped up for the photo!Looking at these, I'd seriously like to get a second Revenant Titan and third Tempest...For a sense of scale here they are with my Imperial titans, a squad of infantry and Keira's Wraithknight - which is almo

Painting Plans

It is, of course, the height of ridiculousness to think I could make a plan for what I'm going to paint ALL YEAR and expect I would actually stick to it.... ALL... YEAR.... I do recognize, however, that it is good to have SOME kind of plan and that I'm generally far more productive if I have a plan and am, more or less, sticking to it.I was looking, recently, at the 2019 Painted Versus Purchased page I have listed over on the right under "Pages" and had a good look at the "Things I'd Like to Paint in 2019" list. Wraithguard

Just finished up a few more Aeldari I'm planning to use for the Strange Bedfellows tournament coming up in June...Wraithguard!I've had one of these models for years and never really got around to painting it up because I could never find enough others to make a unit. Oh, they're available out there on eBay, it's just that people want so much for them! So, I was REALLY EXCITED when I saw there was a full unit of five included in the Big Batch of Eldar I recently picked up - especially considering how well my Wraithlords have been doing in games - AND how well Keira's Wraithblades fared in our latest game. Here is the rest of the force, so far... I just have ten Dire Avengers to finish up the 1000 point force. I hope to have them done by the end of the weekend - and then it's on to painting Drukhari!Coming Soon to Tim's Miniature Wargaming Blog:Ten Dire Avengers seems most likely.I've also had a post about painting plans for the year congealing in my brain matter, that might show up soonish. It is the Victoria Da

Path of the Outcast

I finished up the Rangers I need for the Strange Bedfellows tournament coming up in June."Need" is a funny word to use there, as I did not NEED them at all. I have other painted rangers I could have used...But they don't MATCH!?It's true, I AM a special kind of stupid...MORE Aeldari Rangers in the Cool Alien Camouflage (cool as in cool colours - Blue, Green, Purple... as opposed to the Warm Alien Camouflage). One of them is a conversion that I used a Drukhari head on. not because I thought, "Hey, it would be cool to put a Drukhari head on one of these rangers...", but because one of the Ranger minis I got in the recent Big Batch of Eldar didn't have a head... and I had lots of Drukhari heads... and I recently read Path of the Warrior by Gav Thorpe and one of the Striking Scorpion characters is later revealed to be a Drukhari that was captured or surrendered in a battle against the Alaitoch craftworld and somehow became one of them...? I thought, of all the paths, the Path of the Outcast (which the Rangers foll

Strange Plans

There is another tournament coming up in town called "Strange Bedfellows) that I thought I might get in on. The format seems interesting - it's a four-player team tournament. Each team has four players, each of which brings 1000 points. There are three rounds, during each you will partner with each of your different teammates against two teammates from one of the other teams.I got kind of excited thinking maybe the whole family could go! The Girl and I could play Asuryani (Craftworld eldar), Amanda could play her Drukhari, and I though perhaps between mine and The Girl's Harlequin forces we might be able to put together 1000 points for Finnegan to play with.As it turns out Amanda's away that weekend, and The Girl and I have nowhere NEAR enough of the right Harlequin stuff to put together 1000 points of them. Partly because our forces of painted stuff are small, but mostly because the allowed detachments are pretty restrictive!None of the regular detachments are allowed. Only these:Initially, when I read the c

The Battle of the Denfeld Wastes - Part Two

Carrying on from PART ONE played the night before... I'd hoped to finish the game off in the morning, but we were distracted by the arrival of Hellboy: The Board Game! Mistakes Were Made...

It wasn't eBay... So the fellow that ran Battleforce Recon sent me a message last week... He was looking to sell of his brother's old Eldar army and knew I was into the old metal minis and so thought he'd offer them to me. Now... I totally was not looking to expand my army at this point, but it was and INSANELY good deal... I also totally did not need ALL of this stuff... but conveniently The Girl also has an Eldar army and I was pretty sure she would be interested in a bunch of the stuff that I didn't need. So we ended up going halfsies on it.Old School Rangers which I'll add to my existing squads. The Girl is taking the newer rangers behind them,  as she has a few of these (though in finest). Also three more Fire Dragons and some Wraith Guard... The Girl is taking the Wraithlord (as I already have three) and the Autarch and Farseer and two warlocks. she's taking Fuegan (because I already have one) and I'm taking Jain Zar (because SHE already has one). We're splitting the Banshees, I'm onl
