Feb 2019 ACW 15mm game

Dave hosted a  American Civil War game using the Black powder 2 rules and the Glory Hallelujah supplement. We played on a 6x4 table length ways and the scenario was 2 evenly matched sides encountering each other.I commanded the Union forces and Ian the Confederates. The tabbleThe key junction to controlI deployIn column of march on the road to make a dash for the junctionI deployed the artillery straight away to dominate one side of the tableThe Rebs approachIan was concerned about poor command rolls so opted for march column to guarantee forward movement Slow going in the woodsI won the race to the junction and busied myself creating a defence. Ian managed to get a battery in place early on to dominate the road which was painful. The red dice show units with casualtiesMoving to create an overlap on my leftMy battalion controlling the road benefited greatly from the musket and artillery fire from my right wingMy right wing dominating the Confederate left disordering it with a large volume of fireMy ca

Leipzig 1813, pt. 3. Lipsk 1813, cz. 3.

Hi! Today my third part of our big Leipzig 1813 game. Before I will go to it, I owe you some emedations. First is that we were replaying the southern part of the battle with the real troops and not as I wrote in 1st part loosely based. Bill, who prepared the scenario and layout of the table chose the 16th of October 1813, the first day of the battle. In our game we used 4 700 figures and 162 guns with about 900 being still in reserves. All game was played on four 12'x6' tables with 5' gaps. The tables did not interact, except that units within 2' of the respective table edges, where able to move between tables.Witam! W niej u

Jan 2019 Anglo Zulu War game

For January's club meeting a umpired a 15mm Anglo Zulu game using Dave's figures and a scenario out of the supplement with the 2nd edition rules. The game is set during the battle of Isandlwana at the point the British companies fall back on the camp. The players command a company each, with victory points for getting back to camp and points for a fellow company which is only known to that player. It's possibly for the same buddy company to be selected by more than one player. The Zulus are commanded by the umpire - me.This initial set up. On 3 sides you can see the Zulus lined up. I diced to see what turn each unit came on and put a dice next to the unit with the number so that I'd knowI didn't adjust the scales for 15mm so with the right command dice the Zulus advanced at a paceThe British line looks far away but they are already blazing away. The 1 on the red dice means this unit is in sight move 1, and will under orders if I get the right command dice. I ordered each Zulu unit individually.Move 1 and a Brit

Mahdist invasion of Egypt, 1886. Inwazja Mahdystów na Egipt, 1886.

Last Thursday we moved into 'what if' scenario'. Some time ago I prepared few scenarios for the alternate history, set in Egypt and Sudan. This time we played the second in the row of them. All story is based on the fact, that Mahdi did not died of typhus in 1885, but miracly back his health, thanks to the ancient medicine found somewhere in ancient Sudanese pyramids. Seeing in that clear sign from Allah, Mahdi decided to lead an attack on Egypt and put his banners in Mediterranean Sea. Unfortunately his medicine was stolen, by Colonel Frederick Burnaby (he did not died in 1885 as well). The story of taking that medicine from Mahdists is part of the first scenario which we are going to play some day. Anyway, back to our game. The track of Burnaby with stolen good took to the lonely Egyptian outpost somewhere on Egyptian Sudanese border. That lay on the way one of the few armies lead by Mahdi's Califs. He got an personal order from Mahdi to take this medicine back. In the meantime British get informed abo

Last Thursday we had Napoleonic game with Black Powder 2 game. That was the time, when my Poles were put first time on the table. Sadly I thought, that my second regiment will be ready for the game, but because of some unexpected things, I did not finished it on time. W ostatni czwartek mieliśmy grę z czasów napoleońskich z użyciem zasad Black Powder 2. 2nd Battalion, 2nd Regiment Swiss

I started my Napoleonic project for Black Powder almost 8 years ago.  I had really high hopes for this project and I had several friends that had expressed interest in participating.  As time has progressed most of my friends (all but one in fact) have moved on and are not longer interested.  I have persisted, although halfheartedly at best.  With the completion of the 2/2 Swiss Regiment for my French army I now have 8 battalions completed along with 2 guns and one commander.  That is not very good considering that is only one battalion per year.  This has really made me rethink this project.  It is time for me to either put some real effort into getting a usable collection painted or just admit to myself that it is time to let it go.  One of the real problems I have is that I HATE painting Napoleonic figures.  Right up until the unit is based I can't help feeling that they look like crap and it took way to much effort for them to look that way.  Then I base t

A close run thing.

As I have come to expect, another dreich night heading into Lancaster, it was Napoleonics with Andy, Stuart and Simon using Black Powder, so I traveled light, dice and tape measure. Andy had settled on the battle of Rolica from the BP scenario book about which I had not a clue.It looked like a decent little club game, Simon had four battalions and a gun while I had two and a unit of cavalry, we were the French, however we had a long front to defend and were spread thin with no reserves. I had the right flank and it looked decidedly weak, right opposite me was two battalions of riflemen and two cavalry units, in the centre was a full brigade of British and the same on our left, it looked like I would be home early.Battle lines are drawnHold, hold, or whatever it is in French.Sure enough the British came straight at us, my cavalry was charged and against the odds sent their opponents running, as the lines came together the British lost two battalions trying to budge our defenders, things looked just dandy. 2019 Figures and a fright for Napoleon

I won't bore you with the details of my ills over the festive season, suffice to say I am 95% back to normal and I already have three bookings at the Docs to kick the year off. I have now finished my French cavalry, I did not manage to base them last year so they are the first to be completed this year. They are the Royal Roussillon regiment dressed in a nice blue with red trimmings, they were supposed to wear a cuirasse but trying to get figures to correspond to all the uniform variations is impossible, thankfully it does say that they wore their tan waistcoat over the cuirasse at times so that was fine by me. I am now going to cut my cavalry regiments down to eight figures, I may still do the odd twelve man but I want to cut down on painting and expense.I bit the bullet and ordered up my next four infantry battalions, this should keep me painting until Easter as I am away for most of March. I have the 51st Foot and Grenadiers for the British also Grenadiers for the French and how could I resist the Royal Ec

Gross Weitzer, 1813.

Last Thursday we had fictitious Napoleonic game with Black Powder 2 rules. The idea was to try different game sequence than original, which is: initiative movements, shooting, order movements and finally hand to hand combats. In our opinion, this is a more sensible sequence that reflects the realities of the battlefields of that period in the much better way.W ostatni czwartek mieliśmy fikcyjną grę z okresu napoleońskiego z użyciem zasad Black Powder 2. Only the Lonely

The missus is away for a week, left yesterday, once I closed the PO, far too many customers for a Saturday, I managed some map work and then sat down to have a couple of Canadian Club's to spoil myself as I have not had an alcoholic drink for months. I could find nothing on Netflix and settled down to 'Full Metal Jacket' what with going to Vietnam next year and reading Hastings' book, it has not stood the test of time well and looked fairly low budget especially the warfare in Hue, I gave up, I enjoyed the CC's but won't renew the bottle when it is done, which at this rate will be at least another year. This morning against my normal practice I lay in until 1000 hrs and will continue with this laziness throughout the day with a week facing the public coming up from tomorrow morning. I will finish off a couple of maps and then sit and get on with the Celtae Seniores unit for the Patricians, I want them to stand out a bit from the other Legions as they were the fourth senior Western unit in the army.I phoned Cal

Ostritz, 1813.

Last Thursday we had first game with a new version of Black Powder. This time we decided to play the rules as it has been written, so we did the original sequence of play. I have to admit, that despite my seven years experience with this set, this was  my first time I did it that way and I liked. However was it realistic, I doubt. Sadly my copy arrived yesterday, so I did not have a chance to read the rules before the game, but Bill managed to do the comparison of both versions and with that I was able to play it without any hussle.W ostatni czwartek mieliśmy pierwsza grę z nową wersją Black Powder.
