Hi All,I just wanted to share with you the figure I painted for the #paintabob challenge on the Oldhammer Community on Facebook.I had intended to also paint a second Psyker and the Keg tappers from Reaper's Dwarven Brewmeister set, but I put the "pro" in procrastinate again. So I onlty finished the one figure.I still need to work to get things ready for Monolith, and it looks like I'm going to be spending all day next Saturday roleplaying, so we'll see how much I can get done in October. Also know as Olleytoberfest here on the blog. Thanks for looking.
Today we have a real gem. Painted for the #paintabob competition on the Oldhammer Facebook page, this rotting monarch is from Essex Miniatures. He looks like he's spent several weeks down a well. He was ludicrously fun to paint. When painting this fellow, I used the painting technique for rotting flesh used by Tyler Mengel of Mengel Miniatures. Here's the recipe should you wish to try it yourself. As you can see, it's mostly washes. This suits Olley sculpts extremely well. It's also much more fun to play about with washes instead of laboriously layering skin, which suddenly becomes a cloak. Or an ear. Or a portal into the nightmare dimension.King Slough might be a bit past his prime, but he still gets a big screamy face shield.I painted the rest of the king to match my other undead. He's certainly going to be going into my Warcry warband, probably as a seneschal. It'll give me a lot of chuckles to see him go to town on some svelt chaos warband, imagining him shouting "What's that sonny?" and "Here's how we did
Alright so I've been a little quiet, working on too many things at once but at least it means being busy (mostly) doing stuff and amongst the many things I was working on, there's this team of Adeptus mechnicus designed by Bob Olley. After the really pleasing challenge around Trish Carden a few months back, I've decided to ask Bob Olley to judge another friendly competition based in his work this time ! So this month was the #paintabob marathon for plenty of us and great fun it was.I really wondered about which models I would pick as Bob's sculpted a mind blowingly large amount of stuff and I finally settled for his iconic Adpetus Mechanicus range. It is with not a little amusement that I realised I haven't posted pics of the 4 new caricatures sculpted by the legendary Bob Olley and painted by yours truly.............I've just put them on the 'Blog Minis For Sale!' tab but thought it wise to put them on a full post as well......also painted pics of the previous release of 5. Now you fight your way through politics and storm through Europe, America and the Far East with aplomb......well....you know what I mean. Hi All,A quick one before I make dinner and get ready for trick or treaters.A little bug eyed, but the first time in ages I've actually painted a black eye dot with a brush. The apes, with their white eye dots so successful, gave me the courage to try this time.Perhaps I dirtied him up a tad too much with the grunge wash. All the paints were reaper except for craft paints on the base.It was fun to work on a single figure and get him finished. I probably could have done him in fewer, longer sessions, but it was nice to just work on him a bit at a time as time allowed over the month. You can still purchase him, and his barrel toting compadres here.If you painted any Olley's or found any painted ones in your collection that you want to share, let me know.I'm trying to push out the Oldhammer in the New World Zine #3 in the next day or two, in time for Oldhammer in the Jerz 2. I'm just polishing the last bit of the work I did and then abandoned at some point last year. Thanks for looking and commenting.
Hi All,Time to get serious. One of the many topics that I tend to chat about with facebook friends are Bob Olley figures. Some people love them, some people hate them. One cannot deny that many of the Iconic Oldhammer figures were sculpted by Mr. Olley and he has been super prolific as a sculptor. It took me awhile to find it, but here is the link on CCM wiki that puts links to all of his stuff in one place. So it got me thinking. Wouldn't it be fun to celebrate the sculpts of Bob Olley in the month of October? I know, there's already Orctober, Zom(b)tober etc, do we really need another themed project in October? No, but so what? So, phase 1? Show us your painted Olley's. I'll wait. From Left to Right: 30th? Pick an unpainted Olley in your possession and paint it
