Necromunda Re-Basing Project

Never say "Never!"I have learned this all too well, so many times over.I've never really been overly fond of plastic slotta bases - at least with metal figures. They were too light and I felt they made the over all model top heavy. I also thought they were a bit plinth-like - making scale creeping models even TALLER than older smaller models I had based on... well... other, thinner materials I've used throughout the years.I've absolutely HATED black sides on bases. I especially hated them on plastic bases. Why, when one spent so much time making the top surface of the base so beautiful with a grassy scene or desert with scrub, would you paint the sides of a plastic base BLACK (instead of green or brown - to match the top of the base or your table terrain)!? As most plastic bases are black, it just looked to me like you forgot or couldn't be bothered to paint them. It looked unfinished and lazy. I also found the contrast jarring when looking at them on a finely manicured tabletop - especially in close-up photo

Rescue Mission - Bronze Gates Campaign

On Monday I'd originally planned to run a larger 3-player game (one of the scenarios I'd originally planned for the Necromunda Game Weekend). But then Amanda was keen to play a Rescue Mission to retrieve the ganger she'd lost to me in the previous evening's game before that... I Thought maybe we'd get that done quickly - maybe even before the kids got home - and still have time to play a larger game afterwards. We didn't get started with that until well after noon and by the time we were done it was supper time and no one was interested in playing games after supper - Keira is sick with a cold and Amanda had work to do on a costume she's supposed to bring along to dance class tomorrow evening... so... here I am writing up the final game reports... Maybe next weekend...As always I did petition the house for aid and... they send me ANOTHER Juve... I had REALLY hoped it would be an arms shipment and I could pick up a bunch of equipment for the Champion I was hoping to hire after this game... then I had

Escort Mission - Bronze Gates Campaign

Sunday evening, after the kids had gone off to my folks, Amanda and I played another game of Necromunda. Earlier in the afternoon I'd played Finnegan's Genestealer Cult. The One-Eyed Red Snakes were not in a good way. They were down to six active fighters - having lost one dead and another recovering from a critical injury. A Juve from the settlement had stepped up to join the gang... but the gang had no gear or cash to buy gear with which to equip him! So we petitioned the House for some help. Conveniently the house coughed up some wargear - and we were able to bring seven to the next battle...!We decided to try one of the scenarios in the Arbitrators section of the main rulebook - Escort Mission! A Guild Agent with close ties to how Cawdor and the Redptionists said if the One-Eyed Red Snakes would escort her out of the Bronze Gates, she would petition House Cawdor to have the One-Eyed Red Snakes maintain control of the Shrine of the Sinners Past (Bone Shrine) as there were no representatives of House Cawdor

Battle for the Bronze Gates

Even though the Necromunda Game Weekend hadn't gone exactly as planned, on Sunday afternoon I did challenge Finnegan's Average Joes Genestealer Cult for control of the Bronze Gates - the toll crossing that gives it's name to the entire region. I let Finnegan pick the scenario and he chose Zone Mortalis Scenario 2: The Trap. I'm not sure who was trapping whom...Gang selection was Custom(10), meaning you could use up two ten members of your gang... unfortunately my gang was down to SIX active members (two were still in the gang, but recovering from injuries...).Before getting started, I DID petition the house for aid, and got a House Trainer - which gave a number of gangers some extra experience. Finnegan also petitioned the cult for aid and got another cultist... Normally it would be a Juve, but the Genestealer cult doesn't have "juves" so when they get a free dude it's a Neophyte Cultist - the equivalent of a ganger!Finnegan had eight he could use for this game. The battleground was set up a sort of a cro

The (Not-So-)Necromunda Game Weekend

Generally speaking, I plan two big "events" a year. One is the Wargaming Weekend in February - which started out as my wargaming birthday bash (a one-evening/afternoon game held for local friends) but then evolved into a wargaming weekend at the end of February (closest to my birthday) and has in recent years moved to the "Family Day" long weekend in mid-february to make it easier for those that travel from Edmonton or Calgary or Winnipeg to participate. The other is a fall convention game. Originally that was Heroe's Gambit here in Saskatoon. For a couple years I went out to Fallcon in Calgary. In recent years it's been at ToonCon here in Saskatoon. This past February I had originally planned to run a Kill Team campaign of sorts. Previous skirmish campaign weekends had been a huge success - like the Shadow War: Armageddon campaign I'd run the previous year, or the Quest for the Skull Sword Frostgrave weekend or the Ronin Campaign I'd run previously. But as the date drew nearer I was losing interest fast - par

Space Rats, Melta Guns and Spooky Chibis

A few things rolling off the workbench this week...Superdeformed (or "chibi") spooky characters from Reaper bones. More experimenting with Contrast paints. How I've been doing a lot of these are undercoating with black gesso, then doing a heavy dry brush with a white gesso, and THEN applying Contrast paints - it keeps the dark recesses DARK - even if the contrast paint is... not-so-dark...It's fast... I'll say that. And if it means more people get more painted toys on the table, then I'm all for it. I wouldn't mind facing warriors painted this way - better than unpainted grey plastic!! But I don't love the look of them....Another ganger for the One-Eyed Red Snakes Delaque Necromunda Gang. The figure is a conversion, I think he had a lasgun or autogun originally... and I already had TWO of that figure, so I decided to convert it to have a special weapon of some sort... and I had a Meltagun that seemed like it would be easy to fit in there...Give then state of my gang in the current campaign, it will be a LONG

The Pit

For them which comes from below, it seemed only natural and right that they should try to seize control of the Mine Workings - it does stretch down into their realm and impinge on the personal space of the Patriarch which rules over all of them. The sneaky ones in black were making their move to control the area. They had to be taught a LESSON!This week Finnegan and his Average Joes Genestealer Cult challenged my One-Eyed Red Snakes Delaque gang for control of The Pit - an abandoned mine shaft, extending from the lower parts of the Bronze Gates to some place much, much darker far below even the lowest reaches of the under hive.SCENARIOWe played a Sneak Attack Scenario - Finnegan's Genestealer Cultists were attacking into the territory of the Delaque Gangers to deface their relic... I got to set up 5 sentries who did sort of random stuff until the alarm was raised. Finnegan got his whole gang - or at least all the ones that he had figures for (I think her recruited a few new members last game, but didn't get f

As I was the challenger, the One-Eyed Red Snakes (my Clan Delaque gang) was the attacker and the Pink Punchers were the defenders. The battlefield was set-up accordingly and Keira began her deployment.THE GAMEKeira chose to set up her gang in one tile (defender had the option of setting up in one tile, o

The Bronze Gates Campaign (A Necromunda Dominion Campaign)

As mentioned in my Fall Plans, I've arranged with the family to run a Necromunda Dominion Campaign this fall. We'll be starting this Sunday evening and it will probably run until mid December - about thirteen weeks. The suggested time for a Dominion campaign is seven weeks - three weeks for the Occupation Phase, a week off, followed by three weeks of the Takeover Phase. I've decided to extend the Occupation and Takeover Phases to six weeks each - so there's less pressure to get in lots of games. If everyone plays ONE GAME each week, we'll be good, and Sunday evenings have, in theory, been set aside to play Necromunda! The Bronze GatesThe Bronze Gates region of Necromunda was abandoned hundreds of years ago when a hivequake buried most of the access ways and the Mechanicus Overseers determined the rubble was too unstable to bother trying to shift. In recent years some of the blockage was shifted when subsequent hivequakes caused into to collapse into a lower region, clearing a single precipitous Bridgeway to ac

Delaque Gangers

I finally finished up the Delaque Leader, so I thought I would post pics of the entire gang... I do have three more to do, but all three require some converting, and it may be some time before I get to them, so...The One-Eyed Red SnakesThe entire gang, so far...All are old school Necromunda metal figures from Citadel Miniatures.Artifex is the Leader of the gang. Necromunda - ALL IN!

In the category of "Other Things Distracting Me From Completing Thirty Wyches By Next Saturday"...I've been thinking about picking up the new Necromunda since it came out a year and a half ago.  I think I figured, at the time, "Nah... I've got Shadow War: Armageddon..." and it was only available in the box with the two gangs... I thought of getting it (and two more gangs) at Xmas for the whole family to play (though they didn't even have all the gangs out at that time)... but I'd just bought a skipload of Tallarn and wanted to focus on 40K... I thought maybe I'd wait until they collected them into separate books... and then there was Kill Team...Then they finally collected the rules into hardcover books and I got all excited about it again, but I was busy with Kill Team and getting fired up about Wrath & Glory... And then I started buying up old metal Necromunda figures FOR Wrath & Glory... And then someone on the local 40K forum said "Hey! Is anyone playing Necromuda locally? Is anyone intereste
