Rescue Mission - Bronze Gates Campaign

On Monday I'd originally planned to run a larger 3-player game (one of the scenarios I'd originally planned for the Necromunda Game Weekend). But then Amanda was keen to play a Rescue Mission to retrieve the ganger she'd lost to me in the previous evening's game before that... I Thought maybe we'd get that done quickly - maybe even before the kids got home - and still have time to play a larger game afterwards. We didn't get started with that until well after noon and by the time we were done it was supper time and no one was interested in playing games after supper - Keira is sick with a cold and Amanda had work to do on a costume she's supposed to bring along to dance class tomorrow evening... so... here I am writing up the final game reports... Maybe next weekend...As always I did petition the house for aid and... they send me ANOTHER Juve... I had REALLY hoped it would be an arms shipment and I could pick up a bunch of equipment for the Champion I was hoping to hire after this game... then I had

Escort Mission - Bronze Gates Campaign

Sunday evening, after the kids had gone off to my folks, Amanda and I played another game of Necromunda. Earlier in the afternoon I'd played Finnegan's Genestealer Cult. The One-Eyed Red Snakes were not in a good way. They were down to six active fighters - having lost one dead and another recovering from a critical injury. A Juve from the settlement had stepped up to join the gang... but the gang had no gear or cash to buy gear with which to equip him! So we petitioned the House for some help. Conveniently the house coughed up some wargear - and we were able to bring seven to the next battle...!We decided to try one of the scenarios in the Arbitrators section of the main rulebook - Escort Mission! A Guild Agent with close ties to how Cawdor and the Redptionists said if the One-Eyed Red Snakes would escort her out of the Bronze Gates, she would petition House Cawdor to have the One-Eyed Red Snakes maintain control of the Shrine of the Sinners Past (Bone Shrine) as there were no representatives of House Cawdor

The (Not-So-)Necromunda Game Weekend

Generally speaking, I plan two big "events" a year. One is the Wargaming Weekend in February - which started out as my wargaming birthday bash (a one-evening/afternoon game held for local friends) but then evolved into a wargaming weekend at the end of February (closest to my birthday) and has in recent years moved to the "Family Day" long weekend in mid-february to make it easier for those that travel from Edmonton or Calgary or Winnipeg to participate. The other is a fall convention game. Originally that was Heroe's Gambit here in Saskatoon. For a couple years I went out to Fallcon in Calgary. In recent years it's been at ToonCon here in Saskatoon. This past February I had originally planned to run a Kill Team campaign of sorts. Previous skirmish campaign weekends had been a huge success - like the Shadow War: Armageddon campaign I'd run the previous year, or the Quest for the Skull Sword Frostgrave weekend or the Ronin Campaign I'd run previously. But as the date drew nearer I was losing interest fast - par

Wenz Pipe - Battle for the Narco Den

I totally thought this game was going to be played between the grrrlz... last week...I mean Finnegan and I got in a game on Sunday, but by the time we were done, Amanda and Keira just weren't up for playing a game - and I'd just picked up Stranger things Season Two from the library the day before - and we'd only watched one episode so far!! Monday they planned to play their game after Amanda and I got back from our Ballroom Dance class... but then we ended up missing our class and by the time we got home everyone was too tired... and... STRANGER THINGS! Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings are now filled with scheduled activities (at least for Amanda and Keira!)... So, Friday they said they'd play... but then we had an appointment with someone who was to come between 5:30 and 7pm... but then ended up staying past 8pm and by then we were almost done How I Met Your Mother Season Nine... and so... back to Sunday... our Necromunda game night. Though everyone had been saying since Friday that the Escher gangs

Battle at Bilton's Corner

Bronze Gates Necromunda Dominion Campaign - Game TwoOn Monday evening Keira and I got in our first game in our Necromunda Dominion Campaign. For a bit of info on the campaign background, the territories within the Bronze Gates and our starting gangs check out this post:The Bronze Gates Campaign (A Necromunda Dominion Campaign)for an After Action Report of Game One (between Finnegan's Genestealer Cult and Amanda's Escher Gang) check out this post:Encounter a Fahr's PipeAs Bung's Hole had already been snapped up by The Crimson Wave, I challenged Keira's Pink Punchers for control of D52 - the region's Gambling Den...SCENARIOWe played a quick Tunnel Skirmish scenario, just as Amanda and Finnegan had in their game. As I was the challenger, the One-Eyed Red Snakes (my Clan Delaque gang) was the attacker and the Pink Punchers were the defenders. The battlefield was set-up accordingly and Keira began her deployment.THE GAMEKeira chose to set up her gang in one tile (defender had the option of setting up in one tile, o

Encounter a Fahr's Pipe

Bronze Gates Necromunda Dominion Campaign - Game OneYou can find some background on the campaign and details of the gangs and territories here:The Bronze Gates Campaign (A Necromunda Dominion Campaign)Sunday evening we started out Necromunda Dominion Campaign. I went through the territories and what they did for each gang and it was generally decided that the two territories that the Delaque gang got Enhanced Boons from were far too powerful to fall into my hands and so Finnegan's Genestealer Cult challenged Amanda's Escher for control of Bung's Hole, the Drinking Hole territory... The two gangs clashed at Fahr's Pipe, just outside Bung's Hole. Both were on their way to Bung's to "offer" him some "protection" forces establishment. Neither was willing to step aside and let the other gang take control...SCENARIORather than rolling we decided we should just play the Zone Mortalis Scenario 1: Tunnel Skirmish. We figured it was would be a quick way to jumpstart the campaign and maybe get two games in...We played w

The Bronze Gates Campaign (A Necromunda Dominion Campaign)

As mentioned in my Fall Plans, I've arranged with the family to run a Necromunda Dominion Campaign this fall. We'll be starting this Sunday evening and it will probably run until mid December - about thirteen weeks. The suggested time for a Dominion campaign is seven weeks - three weeks for the Occupation Phase, a week off, followed by three weeks of the Takeover Phase. I've decided to extend the Occupation and Takeover Phases to six weeks each - so there's less pressure to get in lots of games. If everyone plays ONE GAME each week, we'll be good, and Sunday evenings have, in theory, been set aside to play Necromunda! The Bronze GatesThe Bronze Gates region of Necromunda was abandoned hundreds of years ago when a hivequake buried most of the access ways and the Mechanicus Overseers determined the rubble was too unstable to bother trying to shift. In recent years some of the blockage was shifted when subsequent hivequakes caused into to collapse into a lower region, clearing a single precipitous Bridgeway to ac

The Hunters Hunted

A gang of Spyrer brats have descended Downhive to go hunting for sport. They've been wreaking havoc for the last few cycles, killing and and mutilating and maiming for giggles. Local guilders have put a price on their heads. Most who have lost loved ones, though, would be willing to take their heads for free...Someone had discovered their means of egress - an Arvus Lighter - locked away in a secluded hanger.  One only needs to wait until they come to leave...Last game with the three kids for this week, I wanted to try out the Spyrers. The Spyrers objective it to make it to the Lighter. The gangs' objective is to make sure they never do. The Lighter was locked in a hanger - if the gangs can bypass the locks they COULD do damage to the Lighter, but it was fairly tough... If they did destroy it, the Spyrers could escape by heading back to the left they started from and find another way out from another level.Explaining the scenario to the kids. The Spyrers in their entry point - a cargo left. The Spyrers geta

The Return of Karloth Valois

Carlota Valois, is the stuff of legend... or... nightmares... or legendary nightmares!? A frightful tale that's passed into legend that parent tell their children to frighten them but no one actually believes anymore... Until he returned from the deep dark depths of THE ABYSS...We had to cancel Tuesday and Wednesday due to illness... and Thursday... well... still ill... but while I am experiencing some intense discomfort, I'm not all that contagious, so we forged ahead with another game - which was a great way to take my mind off of things!Instead of doing something simple for our second game ever, like an out-of-the-book scenario or something, I decided I needed to make something up on my own that was a bit more complex to start play-testing some ideas for the Necromunda game weekend in October! This scenario involved the return of Karloth Valois - a rogue psyker, long thought dead - along with a horde of Plague Zombies! I'm not going to type out the specifics of their stats or abilities or what all the victo

Necromunda - First Game

Well, I FINALLY got in an actual GAME of Necromunda. Actually, I was just Arbitrating a game between the kids and a friend of theirs, not actually playing a faction on the tabletop, but that's just as fun. Originally I'd planned to run a Narrative campaign for them this last week of summer vacation - during which I would play assorted other elements on the table - bystanders or assorted nemeses - but as we hadn't gotten any games in BEFORE this week (as I had really hoped!) this was king of a simple gang fight with me just looking up rules and explaining stuff. We didn't even get to finish the game - started late and had to take Finnegan out to an appointment mid-afternoon... so we just called it a "learning game". Tomorrow, though, I should have a proper scenario worked out for them (and a proper battle report afterwards!Sorting out gangs. Setting stuff up. explainifying the rules. Everyone was pretty excited - me especially!Choosing a couple of tactics cards each.Keira's Escher Gang (the "Pink Punchers"). S
