This week I am more than happy with my painting performance. Thirty five figures done and dusted so I am quite content. Admittedly the majority were relatively simple and most were on the small side but a fair amount of work has gone into them so I am not counting them as a half figure.I have a figure that I used as a black elf leader but when I saw these I thought they would do what I wanted. A king queen and a couple of palace guards. The touch of purple is possibly too much but I thought it gave them a nice imperial feel.Every king and queen need a few hench elves. I am not sure about the pointy hats. I did think about doing a christmas game featuring black elves so maybe it will work.Three more of the black tree designs high elves painted as black elves. I have already done a set of these last year but a few more can't hurt. This is not really a black elf but a mage from thr Frostgrave Nickstarter. I could think of no really useful purpose for him before but he seems to fit with the bad guys.I have d

Bron is joined by Ranger Jauriel and her companions to investigate then convent of St Emilia, swallowed up by the Shadowdeep. The Darkness closes in as the companions approach the Gatehouse and make their way into the darkened edifice.
Trumpeter Salute 2019 has come and gone. This was the first Trumpeter in many years where I didn’t run a game which felt kind of strange, but that did leave more time for other people’s games! It was also the kick in the butt I apparently needed to devote a bit more time to gaming, after most of a year (two?) of basically doing squat except watch my gaming stuff gather dust. Among the things I bought at Trumpeter was a pack of Frostgrave Wizards in plastic. I’ve been musing for a while now about mixing up 17th Century English Civil War/Thirty Year’s War figures with magic and fantasy stuff of some sort, and while a lot of things like wands or wizard’s staffs would be easy enough to add to figures with wire and putty, a couple of sprues of ready-made bits seemed like a good plan. The Trumpeter Salute 2019 haul. First three Warlord/Frostgrave magic users on the left, new frogs on the right, chevaux in the foreground. Click, as usual, for larger. It turns out the Warlord plastic ECW
Taking a break from the Eldar to finish off a few things that have been lingering a little too long on the periphery of my painting desk...The Lot of them.Additional Cawdor and Delaque Gangers for the gangs I've already painted...The complete Delaque Gang.I'm not bothering with a picture of all the Cawdor Gangers so far, as I have another batch of them still to finish up...Necromunda Esher Gangers. Actually only four of them are Esher Gangers (three of which I recently picked up from Airborne Grove)- the one I'm using as a leader is actually Mad Donna - a hired gun, and the one in Purple and Green (second from the right) is an old Judge Dredd Perp that I've had forever (and recently stripped and repainted).Preachers and Missionaries from the Adeptus Ministorum. I'm not sure why I based Uriah Jacobus on the rounded plastic base....? I was probably thinking he'd be a "leader" of this lot and needed something bigger... but didn't have a bigger washer...? Or perhaps when I picked him up I was thinking he could be
Huddled in a ruined farmstead, Bron and his remaining companions come across seven survivors convinced the end has come. As monsters loom from the shadows, swords and drawn and the Rangers and survivors make their final stand against the Darkness.
A few pics of our game of Frostgrave at Sheffield Wargames Society ,we palyed the mausoleum scenario from the main rule book a fast and furious game ,great fun and easily picked up ,looking forward to the next installment
At the base of the broken stairs Bron and his companions find a huge and spreading pool of water which rises up slightly into dark marshlands ahead. Ruins jut from the water and the stinking mists of the Shadowdeep are everywhere. Shapes begin to move in the distance as the Rangers take their first steps into the magical blight that has swallowed their neighboring kingdom.
Tomorrow (March 30, 2019) I run a participation game of Frostgrave at Hotlead in Stratford (Ontario, Canada). I am pretty The post Looking at the Past to Move Forward – Convention Game appeared first on Must Contain Minis [MCM].
My Frostgrave Warband for tomorrows Adepticon CampaignAdepticon 2019 starts today over in Schaumburg, IL and now mere 2 hours away on the west side of the greater Chicago area. Now its 17th year its gone from a couple hundred person Games Workshop fan event to the largest top gaming convention in the US. I have been to 11 of them starting in 2007 I made it 10 years in a row, until I burned out. Letting things that shouldnt really have bugged me , its just folks playing games after all, bug me. As the convention grew so did my expectations and when growth and expectation failed my own litmus test, I got pissed. I returned in 2017 just as a spectator with my kids , doing some shopping, marveling at the displays and games and doing the take and paint. Last year we didnt go at all. This year was to be my 12th year, I bought a badge, and signed up for the Frostgrave, day long Campaign event "The Great Wyrm" run by my favorite tourney organizers whose games and events outside Adepticon since 2
With the Watchtower at Tor Varden cleared of the evil Kobolds emerging from the Shadowdeep, Bron and his companions scout a steep pathway leading down the cliffs behind the guard tower. Mustering what provisions they can from the stores of the Tor, they set out immediately on their third mission, this time past the borders of Alladore into the Shadowdeep itself!
Behold! The Bastard’s Blade! Hrothgar and Redd race to the throne room of Barael the Bastard, chasing the shrieking enraged Half Breed. Cornered and furious at its wounding, it turns on both warbands as the ultimate treasures of the War-Mage are revealed!
A couple odd and sundry items coming off the workbench today...First a couple of torchbearers from Lead Adventure Miniatures. these guys have actually been sitting on my desk, finished, for a couple weeks now... and it looks like one got dinged in the process and chipped the paint on his torch! Bother! They're fun little minis. I'm not ENTIRELY sure how they got back on my workbench, when it was cleared of all fantasy projects some time ago... I think around the time John dropped off some figures he wanted me to paint for him for Frostgrave I was doing some organizing and putting away of things and happened to look in one of the Dwarf drawers and noted how very, very close these two were to being finished, and I plucked them out and put them on the workbench to finish off. I might have had some daft notion of painting up a handful more to use as a Dwarf war band for Frostgrave... but then quickly discarded that notion, as I have far too many other things I'd rather be painting and I have no shortage of ready-t
A new project always has something magical about it, and in the case of Frostgrave that's literally the way it is. As Dennis summarized nicely in his review, Frostgrave is a pretty simple setting - two rival wizards seek treasures in the frozen city Felstadt. That's it. After the flood of complex and lengthy fantasy […]
