Owen from Gaming with the Cooler and I run through the event pack from Adepticon 2019, starting with Vital Supplies as my Genestealer Cult takes on his Grey Knights!
Coming back to you with more Adepticon Coverage, this time the 40k Team Tourna, ment. As always this is overall a great event. You meet some awesome teams, and if you do it a few times, you start to meet the same teams ever (two of the 5 teams we played against this year were teams we had faced at a previous Adepticon). Now with our last minute change to EVERYTHING for the 40k team tournament, and one of our players as a result essentially being a 40k novice, we had a challenge ahead of us at the outset. However in the end we came in 47th out of 127 teams and had our best performance yet (overall and battlepoints). Placing above 63% of the competition IMO is excellent for bringing Blood Angels, Dark Angels and Grey Knights. Here are our lists. Some other impressive rankings for us:We were tied with 5 teams for 10th in appearance (which is nice since most of the models we had were just from our collection). Overall score considered, we would have been 18th in appearance. We got 8 Line breakers, in a tie for 3rd for

Coming back to you with more Adepticon Coverage, this time our last minute board and theme. The forthcoming podcast will talk more about it, but in short we had another large amazing theme planned for this Adepticon. Unfortunately one of our team mates had to bow out this year for a family emergency. In solidarity with him, we decided to put that on the back burner and in two weeks time pulled off this board and theme. It basically came about because Chris joked my Redemptor looks like he is Ice Skating. And since all good boards start with a joke, we went from there. So here is the finished productHow did we get to that? Well a whole ton of last minute work.I personally built 3 bikes, painted 6 bikes, an attack bike, and 11 intercessors, and painted the Realm of Battle Boards. Chris did TONS of construction on the boards, integrating all our motors, put together our draft pamphlet, and helped with bases, while Jason helped finish off bases and added all the snow once we were in the hotel. The whole thing was f
Wednesday evening I pedalled over to Robyn's house to play some 40K. I've been trying to get together and play a game of 40K or Kill Team with Robyn for ages, but things just haven't worked out. Well this week they finally did! We both brought out 1000-point forces to practice for the Battleforce Recon tournament we're both playing in this coming Sunday. Robyn played Grey Knights and I played my Asuryani (Craftworld Eldar).SCENARIOWe played Mission #2 - Cut Off the Head, from the tournament pack. Our commanders were were apparently gathering for a crucial tactical meeting when battle was joined. Each player allocated 3 Intel Points, as evenly as possible, between the CHARACTERS in their army, and notes this down on their army roster. If your army has no CHARACTERS, 1 Intel Point would instead allocated to the Warlord. I had three characters so each got 1 Intel Point. Robyn only had one two - so one of them had two points, the other had one.Crucial Intel: At the end of the third battle round, and at
So many games of Kill Team over the last few weeks, trying out new forces and working through the scenarios. Mr Steinberg wanted to try out a predominantly Scout force with a couple a single Primaris Marines. My Grey Knights had to advance across the combat zone into the waiting Scout snipers and various Scout weapons fire. The objectives were scattered on differents levels, so forces had to be divided leaving lone models vulnerable. Sometimes you just have to rely on the excellent armour of Space Marines and just take the hits, after all, reaching the objectives is what wins the game. With the Scouts having taken up a defensive position, the Grey Knights moved and once within 12″ the Rapid Fire of their Storm Bolters proved very effective. The Psychic phase is great for the Grey Knights, almost a free Mortal Wound dished out every turn. It did not take long before a few of the Scouts were out of action. With only five models, any losses on the Grey Knight side hurts a lot, so once they were close
Happy Holidaze to all, and, for those that celebrate it, a very merry Christmas to you all.Over the weekend I managed to finish up three more Grey Knights - all command elements. From left to right a Brotherhood Champion, a Brother Captain, and a Justicar.Brother Champion Tyson - a Headquarters element for the Grey Knights (also a commander option for Kill Team). I put him on a slightly larger base to make him stand out from the others a bit. Unfortunately I two other metal Grey Knight Strike Squads off eBay and both include this figure as the squad's Justicar... Ah, well... They'll go on smaller bases...Brother Captain Alan - in Terminator Armour. A second Headquarters element for the Grey Knights. Once I have the two other Strike Squads painted I'll be able to field these as an allied "Battalion" Detachment. I have no real desire to add any more to this force.I don't know... I guess if some one GAVE me a couple of Land Raiders or I happened upon some of those old school metal Grey Knight Terminators...Justic
I finished up a few more Grey Knights...The lot of new ones. the dudes with incinerators are from that batch of ten or so that I got for $5. The extra guys with Nemesis Force Halberds I picked upon eBay to finish off two squads.I have a Justicar and a Brotherhood champion that arrived this week still to paint as well (after I finish stripping the old paint off) as a Brother Captain in Terminator armour (who is just about finished - he required some converting, but is almost done). The Justicar will finish two squads and the Other two will give me some headquarters options so they can be fielded as a Patrol detachment.I have to admit I actually just bought a SECOND Strike Squad or these older metal Grey Knights, and am on the lookout for a third so they could be fielded as "Battalion" detachment. I am a bit of an idiot - a month or so ago if you asked me if I would ever put together a force of Grey Knights, I probably would have laughed at you and asked "Why would I want to do that!?" All I can say is I'm a su
I know what you're thinking... "WTF, Tim!? ANOTHER Kill Team!? GREY KNIGHTS!? Where did these even come from!?"Well, funny story about that...A couple weekends ago there was a Bitz Swap organized by the local league at our FLGS and I went out to it... It was a little overwhelming. One dude had a 50L tub of random bitz people were sorting through. Others had stuff organized into baggies with prices on them, but there was just too much to look through. I did have a look at a few things and bought a couple bags of random imperial bitz, a huge bag full of Orky bitz (mostly arms, heads and shootas), a Marine with a heavy bolter... and then I found this bag full of what looked like older metal marines. There was eight or ten of them in there and the price on the bag was $5. I asked the fellow if it was $5 each of for the whole bag. He said for the whole bag - no one wants that metal 'junk' anymore... Well I wasn't going to pass up a bag o' ten metal marines - whatever they were - could have been chaos, for al
I have a couple of modest proposals to put forth for the Silver Tin-Cans of Daemon-Hate. Interesting possible changes, that probably won't happen. 1. PsychicThis is a place that has a lot of potential for GK. It's one of the areas they just should be better at, but the rules of 8th edition kinda forced them into just being bad smiters.A simple idea is that they just have more tables. Picking up SM's Liberius Table and dropping it into GK isn't to tall of a order. But a more interesting option is to expand how their current table works. Something similar to the Eldar Runes of Battle table, that cool dual power system GW came up with, that hasn't been replicated once. Sanctic Table (Modified):1. Purge Soul (As is, but enemy unit has -1 to cast until next friendly psychic phase) / Reinforce Soul (Ignore Morale, unit has +1 to deny until next friendly psychic phase)2. Gate of Infinity / Wall of Infinity (Cast on a friendly unit, when charged treated
Discordian here. So when I'm not trying to re-purpose my Fantasy models for my Dark Eldar, I also have a Grey Knight Army. And every once and awhile I try and think of new interesting ways to make them interesting again. So here is my latest attempt of convincing myself to buy new models.Fallen exist....They have the interesting distinction of being the only Chaos/Imperial units. They've got one cool character named Cypher, who's a model I own because he's cool. And I was like "Hey maybe they can add something to my GK".I even thought of a good base for converted Fallen Dudesdefinitely lose the headsBut Woof..... those rules. And I thought Gk had it bad. I'm fairly sure they're only two units in the faction, Cypher and Stern-guard without special ammunition. Which I guess isn't terrible if you plan to play them with Chaos, you know that book they come in. But even then, you start realize they aren't even good there. They cant ride in transports and they can't use any stratagems. The only special rule rule
