Killa Kans and the Game of Apocalypse that Never Was...

A couple weeks ago I decided to help Finnegan get some of his miniatures painted. I was experimenting with coloured primers and washes as well as the new Contrast paints from Games Workshop. I ended up knocking off one of his Killa Kans in a evening - while working on a number of other things as well - and thought "Well this is easy, I'll show him how I did this on one of the other ones, while he paints the third... and boom - the unit will be done!"But I didn't get to that until a few weeks later...Boom! Unit of Killa Kans complete... So, I basically ended up painting two of these for him, and he painted one... but, whatevs, they're done and we can play with them... (Can you guess which two I painted and which one Finnegan painted!?)So I figured it was time we set up an Apocalypse game with his Orks!!All last week we kept saying we should play a game. We finally got a game set up, maybe Thursday, but didn't end up having time that day.... or... Friday... and by Saturday, well, I needed to put everything away

Escape and Evade

For the last few weeks the 222nd Guaiacan Commando Regiment has been heavily engaged against a massive force of Tyranids.  It started when scores of pods started making planetfall. Sergeant Hammer's Team was on a long range reconnaissance patrol at the time and was able to locate half a dozen of the pods, vox in the coordinates and watch them burn as they were bombarded with orbital lance batteries. So many more escaped the orbital bombardments, though. So large were the forces, both in number and physical size, that aid had to be requested from the neighbouring forge world of Xoxigar Secondus - in the form of two Warhound Scout Titans! The Scout titans eliminated the threat from the Hierophant Bio-Titan, but Elements of D Squadron, #4 Commando were overrun and the battle ultimately lost. Survivors of the engagement retreated back to their local firebase and have been under siege ever since. While still out in the field, Sergeant Hammer's team found themselves being surrounded by swarms of the Tyranids. Titans versus Tyranids!

It's a public skewl break this week and the kids are having friends over every day this week to play games. Today we set up a little apocalypse game so their tyranid friend could get a chance to field his Hierophant Bio-Titan (and I could get a little apocalypse practice before the Battle of the Abyss on the 2nd of March!)I'd hoped to get started right around 9am when the Boyz arrived... unfortunately, despite me telling them, multiple times, to have their force organized into battle-forged Detachments... they had not done so... nor did they bring their own copy of the rules... or the rules for their Bio-titan... So it we didn't get started until around 10am...SITUATIONA significant force of Tyranids has been detected on Xoxigar Tertius (suspected to be from Hivefleet Haemorrhoid) - including a Hierphant Bio-Titan. The two Warhound Scout Titans of Eritque Arcus Maniple of Legio Amare Feles - stationed on the nearby Forgeworld of Xoxigar Secondus - were summoned to destroy with the Bio-Titan and support t

Fearless Foraging

4.868.018.M41Sergeant Hammer was released after only a few cycles in the medicae facility at the expansiveHaldivar Starport. He had required some serious bone refabrication and muscle stitching and rebuilding, but didn't require any organ regrowth. "Peachy" McGough and Loiselle were kept in quarantine and not allowed to return with him - as they had potentially been exposed to some unknown xenos parasites. It was Hammer's intention to muster the section and anyone else he could and much back out into the jungle to hunt down the vile Xenos that had killed "Doc" Sanders and grievously wounded himself and others. In a debriefing at the Squadron HQ he had leaned the creatures they encountered were the hated "Tyranids". It was imperative to gather as much intelligence as possible about the numbers and dispositions of the terrible xenos threat - to determine the extent of the infestation and where best to direct orbital bombardment. However, upon return to the Troop's Forward Operation Base, he found a si

Guaiacan Commandoes Arrive on Xoxigar

4.912.018.M41Xoxigar TertiumAgravian subcontinentSector 43 - The Area of Operations for the 222nd Guaiacan Commando Regiment. After such a long transit through the warp and painfully slow movements to orbit their destination world and the woefully disorganized planetfall, Sergeant Hammer knew his troopers were NOT in their best form. Despite all the sim-training throughout the voyage and the constant physical training, their heads were not "in the game". They lacked a sense of urgency. The usual razor sharp edge of their bodies and minds had been dulled. Sergeant Hammer decided the best thing he could do for them was to get them out patrolling in the jungle - pushing hard - looking to make contact with the enemy... The rest of the squadron could finish setting up their forward operation base.Sergeant hammer mustered his section, grabbed "Doc" Sanders, and a couple of the gunners from the troop's special weapons section and headed out for a long range patrol. After a day it was evident this jungle wa
