First Games of Monsterpocalypse: Defender-X, Terra Khan, Gorghadra, Ares Mothership

A few weeks ago, Francesc came over and we played our first games of Monsterpocalypse. He played a couple demos before this, and because I had both starters we each had rulebooks we could consult mid game.We tried a 1v1 monster game first, followed by 2v2, and a few things seemed clear:Throwing monsters into buildings is brutal. And the line to watch is the line where your monster can be thrown. Throwing isn't based on enemy positionBuildings give two power dice when destroyed instead of the 1 we were doing1v1 monster is okay. The game seems to need 2v2 monsters.I need to protect my monsters with units...or more in the case of facing Mothership AbductionsGorghadra endgame is brutalI push my monsters too far forward early on. Let the units and buildings take the hits.We played again another time, so something to look forward to in the future!

Previews: A Mad Gorman, a Trio of Monsters

Some recent previews have been nice coming out of Privateer Press. The biggest buzz is probably for Gorman the Mad, a hero for Riot Quest, the skirmish game hex board game they're releasing later this year. Nova is the third G.U.A.R.D. monster being released. I think the magic number is there will be three of them because any spoilers after the first three have been of different factions.I am torn between being most excited for the third Terrasaur, Armodax, or the first Empire of the Apes monster, King Kondo. When they first released the Empire of the Apes in Monsterpocalypse 1.0 it made me oddly happy. I have no idea why.But Armodax is some kind of turtle/anklysaurus, and that makes him kind of awesome. Honestly if Armodax were more turtle like, he'd have won this release by a country mile.So it will have to be King Kondo as winner of this  set of previews.

A Druid Lich, a Demonic Monkey, a flying Megazord : it must be Privateer Press Previews

A lot can happen in a week. Or even just a day. I was just done writing about the Butcher4 preview when Privateer Press decided to drop another few leaks.''There was a lot of speculation about this model when he came out. The document reads 30mm base, he looks like he has Iron Kingdoms style Druidic armor, and he looks like he's flying in the pose, but it turns out he's not a Krueger at all. He's a lich. And around his feet isn't just normal dust getting kicked about from takeoff. That's fel flames boosting his rockets. In the background, the origins of Iron Lich Asphyxious are that he was once a Druid who wanted to get the attention of the dragon Toruk, so he jumped into a volcano. ("Notice me senpai!" is one of my favorite lines when explaining this to people). He died and was reborn the Iron Lich.Turns out that 30mm base was a typo, and Chad, our local Circle Player, is not happy at all.Cryx players are though. The Iron Lich models are pretty janky with a metal spear haft that breaks too easily. Not sure if t
