HD- Circle Orboros
https://store.privateerpress.com/well-of-orboros-preorder-plus-black-anchor-water-bottleI'm having a hard time buying just one, especially since I've painted most of my huge base models lately. My only concern is that the size seems smaller than previous Black Anchor Heavy Industries models, though I'm certain that may have been a design decision made to try to keep costs down as much as possible. 60USD for one of these is significantly cheaper than I'd expected after having seen some of the other BAHI models released (BAHI for those of you confused is essentially Privateer Press's version of Forgeworld).Speaking of saving money, the pre-order of this model came with the following additional description:Attention, EU Customers: Effective immediately, all Black Anchor EU orders will ship fromthe UK in order to eliminate additional local fees EU customers have been subject to in thepast. Orders will ship once per month from our Liverpool location. All BAHI preorders willcontinue to ship for free internationally
Tomasz Mucha of Poland shared pictures of his lovely painted Storm Raptor to the various communities. For those of you who aren't familiar with the model, it's big. The base is a 120mm circle, and players often struggle with figuring out safe ways to transport their Storm Raptors in foam. The lightning colors on the feathering is fantastic, and it achieves a look I've failed the times I've tried it which is partly why I had to ask Tomasz for permission to post these pictures here.
The latest Primecast posted Friday, and I near blew out my cell phone battery listening to it in the car and discussing it in chat with friends afterwards. There was some monpoc discussion. I didn't really track that because I got distracted by the Warmachine stuff:Minicrates.Sexy Sylyss. The official minicrate name is Sexy Sylyss, though I think that they could have easily gone with the name Sylyss Wyshicouldnaylyrr. Then there's the Arkadius minicrate. I couldn't figure out the pun at first, but then I listened to the primecast and heard them refer to her as Bride of Arkadius, and that's when you see the straight back hair that practically begs you to paint a white zigzag line through it.Fun fact: She's holding a pig in her left hand, referencing the pig the crew picked up at Adepticon and adopted into some weird poly gamer family. You'll hear them refer to the pig as Hamilton. I wasn't that excited about Riot Quest as a game before other than more versions of Iron Kingdoms stuff. However, hearing them d
To match the recent social trend, here's a 10 year comparison between two projects. The top are Convergence of Cyriss models. The bottom is Circle Orboros druids. These two models have similar paint schemes in that I was painting the druid robes with night blue and emphasizing the shadows while I was painting my convergence with night blue and trying to make the color stand out. Aside from that, however, I don't really see much difference in my technique at all.Simple color layers in both cases. Same basing materials.I guess what I'd do differently with the druids today would be to paint red as a contrast color into the shoulderpads and other recesses of their gray armor bits and weaponry.Other than that...go me?
A lot can happen in a week. Or even just a day. I was just done writing about the Butcher4 preview when Privateer Press decided to drop another few leaks.''There was a lot of speculation about this model when he came out. The document reads 30mm base, he looks like he has Iron Kingdoms style Druidic armor, and he looks like he's flying in the pose, but it turns out he's not a Krueger at all. He's a lich. And around his feet isn't just normal dust getting kicked about from takeoff. That's fel flames boosting his rockets. In the background, the origins of Iron Lich Asphyxious are that he was once a Druid who wanted to get the attention of the dragon Toruk, so he jumped into a volcano. ("Notice me senpai!" is one of my favorite lines when explaining this to people). He died and was reborn the Iron Lich.Turns out that 30mm base was a typo, and Chad, our local Circle Player, is not happy at all.Cryx players are though. The Iron Lich models are pretty janky with a metal spear haft that breaks too easily. Not sure if t
Lost my second game of the year pretty badly against Chad. And when I say pretty, it was ugly.We did Kolgrima vs. Iona again. This time he brought zero cavalry and relied on Ravagers to do what they do, Ravage.I hate the matchup because he has a lot more important dangerous stuff than I do, and I don't have the attacks necessarily to deal with all of them. The other problem I had was that this time around I switched the list a bit to accommodate two min units of Raiders in place of Fire Eaters in order to increase the damage of my cold options, but this wasn't the time to try this out.In addition I lost the roll to choose 1st or 2nd and didn't pick the side closer to the forest for some reason. Against Tharn??? What was I thinking? These games against the Lord of the Feast start out the same a lot of the time where I feat early to deal with the Lord of the Feast, but it doesn't really help my problem because I don't have a solution lined up to deal with him the following turn.I try to maneuver my heavy to the c
Chad came over and we played a game of Kolgrima into Iona, just to see what would happen. I won the roll to go first and had a little time to setup behind the forest before the Tharn came ravaging down the table. I was playing my standard Kolgrima list into double Ravagers, ambushing witches, Brig and Caul, and a unit of Wolfriders. My initial setup was to try to minimize alphas on my Fire Eaters, which I failed. There's an opening on the side of the cloudwall that leaves just enough space for Brigid to popa shot at one Fire Eater with her bow through the forest. However, just as silly is Chad leaving one of his Tharn Chieftains in ambushing range of my unit of Bears, taking Vengeance off the table for one unit of Tharn. This setup lets me activate my army before Kolgrima activates because with Lord of the Feast and wolf Riders on the table, I feel like I have to feat second turn, and there's this thing where sometimes you want your army to hurt things before Kolgrima can get to them with her feat as she pushes
MSRP: *above top secret*My Circle Orboros collection has some notable gaps and a few odd surpluses. I did buy both old Megalith and new Megalith and old Ghettorix and new Ghettorix. I have two Baldur Stonecleavers because of the paint job and the resculpt. However, I am missing several key models. All the new Tharn stuff. That should go without saying. I intend to buy those at the shop, especially Iona, Brighid and Caul. They are amazing looking models and I don't want to miss out on any of them. I also somehow never picked up the Death Wolves??? How? Those models are amazing.I never did get Brennos because he always looked like a Skaven to me (sorry, Chad), and Loki. I should give my metal pureblood a chain and a shield and call it a day for a Loki proxy.I also figured out that my Lord of the Feast is falling apart. Good thing there was a mini-crate to deal with that problem!Another glaring hole is the absence of a second Stalker and second Tharn Chieftain. I'm far more likely to pick up the models I want to p
Late post. Played in a round robin at Chicagoland Games the Dice Dojo last week, and round 1 I got to play Kolgrima into Chad Kaufman's Iona in the Devourer's Host. All the Tharn covered the front of the table. Just a whole bunch of Ravagers. I ambushed one unit of Bears and deployed one unit on the left flank. Chad's Wolf Riders were all over the Right Flank supported by Stalkers and a Champion. Once I saw this, I decided to make a play for the left flank instead, and started to make moves in that direction. One unit of Fire Eaters got lit up by the Pyre Troll and got sent after Two Wolf Riders on the hill. Kolgrima moved up behind the forest and aggressively feated with Vanish, managing to Snowblind all the way out to the Lord of the Feast. Her army was mostly safe near the woods as the frontline Tharn lost Pathfinder from Snowblind, and Rok started making moves to turn into the center zone. In response the Tharn positioned as best they could to reduce any inroads I'd make by presenting one o
Sabra and her husband came all the way from Arizona to play at the event, and she was really nice about the fact that I started out my morning not feeling well (just a little pre-con concrud, I think, mostly due to lack of sleep from my four year old waking up at 4AM in a strange place and freaking out). She had Circle Orboros and I think I audibly groaned at the mention of Krueger2 in her pairing because I felt she had to select that list over whatever else she had (I can't even remember offhand) mostly because Chad Kaufman likes to beat me over the head with that warlock and then express disappointment when I can't beat the Stormlord fielded by someone else. Our game ran long and we were on an end table, so we got to see her husband and friends come by and watch us try to finish out a high scoring game without clocking out.Her version of the Bones of Orboros list used two Woldwardens, two Woldwyrds, and Megalith as her warbeasts, along with a Boneswarm paired with the pre-released model Underchi
