Catachan Snipers - "The Ligar Scorpions" It is not just the Ratlings that are trained to hit a target the size of a credit chip from miles away. Some of the Catachan contingent make expert snipers. From birth on their Death World, Catchans are trained to use weapons and have to undergo regular target practice just to survive on their home planet. One of the smaller animals that infest their jungles is the Ligar Scorpions. These scorpions are about the length of a thumbnail and are coloured to match the background of the trees they normally spend most of their time hugging, lying in wait for their prey. They are patient hunters that actually wait for one of the other hundred odd species to run up the trunk of the tree by them before viciously striking out with their poisonous barb, instantly paralyzing their prey. The Ligar Scorpion squad act very much like their namesake - they are able to conceal themselves for long periods of time waiting for the right time to strike.
Ratling Snipers - "The Wasps" The Wasps pack quite a little sting. Ratling snipers, assuming you are able to feed them and keep them in drink and out of the stores, can make outstanding marksmen. The Wasps have worked with the regiment for many years. Able to make their way into the smallest of hidey holes they are able to hit the enemy from afar and with complete surprise, all with pinpoint accuracy.
Tank Crew There are times when the might of the Imperial Vehicle is just not enough. Sometimes that Chimera or Leman Russ may "brew up" and the crew inside need to escape and make their own way back to safety. Each member of the tank crew is armed at all times and they are prepared to fight for their lives. If they can return to the holding area they may be able to crew up any spare vehicles that are being repaired or worked upon and get back into the fight.
Scout Sentinels - Badger Unit The Badgers form part of the recon arm of the regiment. The venerable old sentinels are adept at getting in and out of the smallest places unseen and thus can provide valuable intelligence for the rest of the army.
Servitors Without these the main lifting and shunting of ammunition, food and other supplies simply would not happen.
Grey Knights - Squad Talnoc Noone quite knows why the Grey Knights are in the sector but they have appeared on the battlefield with the regiment on at least two occasions. Squad markings indicate their leader is Talnoc
Army on Parade - 001 I am slowly getting round to actually having a photograph of pretty much all my models that I have. I thought it might be useful for me to post them up on here a few blocks at a time. Stormtroopers - "Ash Wolves" The Ash Wolves were on secondment to the regiment. Usually operating out of the Saecarro sector they were brought in to investigate some unusual signals in the deserts on Vorix 6 Stormtroopers - "Red Serpents" The Red Serpents have been attached to the regiment for some time now. They are typically used for deep insertion behind enemy lines.
These little things were bought as presents for me (ok... I had them on a wishlist and I think my wife clicked at random on the list)I like the look of some of these. I think they match up with the old 2nd Edition / Rogue Trader type look very nicely and they add a bit of snazz to the collection I know the bases are not finished and look pretty rough. I was trying to experiment with a way to base them on a normal sized base as they come with a set metal base as they are one piece models. This was a dodgy attempt to cover it up with some air dry clay. I think a bit more work on this and it could be more presentable. I think some of these could easily pass for a marshal, or someone to call in a bit of air support or some such.
Remember those models that were a blast from the past? (well... ok... maybe posting on the blog after such a long time is that in itself) Well they did get a paint job... Pretty basic job but I am happy with them for the moment. In fact I had finished them and put them away before I even realised I had not done any real basic highlights or anything... hey ho! I think they could fit quite well in the stormtrooper type role. Or even specialist troops from PDF or something similar. They could also probably pass as Arbites in Necromunda.
Sunday I was over at the Dragon's Den participating in Battleforce Recon. Last year the event was held at Mana Bar, but Mana Bar has since closed... So they held it at the Den...It was pretty crowed back there... and this is before the War Wars: X-Wing guys showed up!I think there were around 24 players....?After the first round there was a break for lunch and everyone put out their armies on display. Last year I was the only one that brought a display board - this year, a lot of others had them! So many great armies! This was one of my favourites: Chad Jordan's Death Guard!Chaos Space MarinesMore Chaos Space MarinesSTILL More Chaos Space MarinesSone of STILL More Chaos Space MarinesI think these were Tom's Khorne Daemon HordeThere was at least one more Chaos player - they fellow with the Death Guard I played in Round One. Some just didn't put their stuff out on display....SO maybe 7 chaos...? about a third of the forces...?Ultramarines! I think there was at least one other Ultramarines player - or maybe Crims
I was doing a photo shoot yesterday for some new Flatpack Terrain river and track products that I'm selling, and found I needed some marching figures. In my loft I found these; they've not seen the light of day in five years or more (photo is clickable). My Napoleonic collection remains somewhat "in the closet", but I couldn't resist setting them out for a photo, especially as I'm currently working on a related project (below) with chums David Imrie and Lionel Bechara.Lionel painted and David has highlighted and weathered. With six battalions each of 24 Garde Chasseurs, it occurs to me that I'm within shouting distance of being able to field a full eight battalion division of them, which, with the Garde Grenadiers, would give me all the Old Guard infantry for Waterloo or the winter 1814 campaign. I also have most of the Young Guard, already based, much of the Garde cavalry and some of the artillery. It strikes me that they would work very nicely on a 20cm grid. Now if someone would only write a decent set
I am quite happy to announce, that my hunt on the Oldhammer stuff, that I covered a couple of days before, was rather successful. Via the introduced and mentioned channels I managed to acquire some interesting kits and spare parts to build the Imperial Guard retro project around. With the Basilisk it was a bit […]
First episode of 2019! We start off as usual with hobby progress (to include some talk about the Lucius Pattern Drop Pod and Coastal Wargaming Group!) For our first segment, we heavily talk about the upcoming White Dwarf Assassin release and how we see them being employed by the savvy Imperial General. Our second segment we discuss what the difference between "Allies" and "Soup" is before closing off with some discussion of... a less than spectacular Forge World model. And apologies for the Audio Quality this time. It's a public skewl break this week and the kids are having friends over every day this week to play games. Today we set up a little apocalypse game so their tyranid friend could get a chance to field his Hierophant Bio-Titan (and I could get a little apocalypse practice before the Battle of the Abyss on the 2nd of March!)I'd hoped to get started right around 9am when the Boyz arrived... unfortunately, despite me telling them, multiple times, to have their force organized into battle-forged Detachments... they had not done so... nor did they bring their own copy of the rules... or the rules for their Bio-titan... So it we didn't get started until around 10am...SITUATIONA significant force of Tyranids has been detected on Xoxigar Tertius (suspected to be from Hivefleet Haemorrhoid) - including a Hierphant Bio-Titan. The two Warhound Scout Titans of Eritque Arcus Maniple of Legio Amare Feles - stationed on the nearby Forgeworld of Xoxigar Secondus - were summoned to destroy with the Bio-Titan and support t
After the short introduction to Oldhammer earlier this month, we want to stick with the 2nd Edition of Warhammer 40,000 and highlight one particular army - the Imperial Guard. If you think of Warhammer, especially 40k, you think of Space Marines. But the Imperium and its forces is not only made of Adeptus Astartes, but […]
