Game 17: Grim Angus vs. Kolgrima, Civil War

Steven and I played a third game in the basement, playing out battle 2 of the Trollbloods Civil War Trolloff! I won the roll and elected to go first and Steven picked the other side of the table.I put Weald Secrets on the Dire Troll Mauler and sent the Bomber out on the right to try and hold the zone against the Fennblades. Kolgrima thought she was safe behind a cloud, but the Bog Trog Mist Speaker gave the Hooch Hauler Guidance and Grim Angus feated, taking her down to a tasty DEF 11.I still missed with one of the Hooch Hauler attacks, but she was oiled and on fire, so she would have to retreat from the front liens earlier than she would like. She is one of the squishier Troll warlocks, but her gameplan often includes bringing her forward to feat or spray dudes. Lucky (or unlucky) for her, she didn't have much to spray into my cold immune army. The Fennblades do a bunch of damage to the Bomber, but fail to kill it. Kolgrima has no choice but to back that thang up just a bit. Grim Angus fails to cast Rage on t

Game 16: Kolgrima Storm of the North vs. Thagrosh2 Children of the Dragon CID

Mike Gattone brought the Children of the Dragon with Thagrosh the Messiah of Everblight up against my modified for a Dhunian Archon Kolgrima Storm of the North list. He won the roll to go first, so I set up on the side behind the forest to get some relief from all the flying eyeless sight BS and sprays.I almost think he should have gone second and taken the side away from me.https://conflictchamber.com/?c7201b_-0Gj1joiUjqoP6GfJ0li-iZiZezez2NiTbKTrollbloods Army - 73 / 75 points[Theme] Storm of the North!!! Dhunian Archon

They spoiled the images of the Dhunian Archon. She will be on a medium base, unlike the other archons, and I'd have to say that I don't like the color choices going on here. The green skin with the orange hair makes her too Orcy for my tastes, so I might stick to my standard troll brown skin, maybe green clothes, or maybe standard blue as my troll scheme goes.I'm trying to find a list to test her in.Right now we're concerned that she doesn't do enough to justify taking up a Minion slot in a list or even taking up a free slot in the Power of Dhunia theme where she's included (and thus, could run 2 of her in).Often you need to use that minion slot to flex some part of your list, like using it to get a Bog Trog Mist Speaker for Guidance, for example.Option 1: Modify what you've gotList 1 : KolgrimaMy standard Kolgrima list minus her shaman buddies. I've played this list a lot and enjoy it immensely. I've been moving away from it because Kolgrima is always in danger of dying, and I think I might need to run

Game 11: Kolgrima vs. Zaadesh2

I might not have done well at the ATC, but the games were all fun. For our final game, I played against Paul Bartlett. I dropped Kolgrima into what almost certainly was going to be an Exalted game, and he didn't disappoint. I ambush one unit of Bears. His army list is three full units of Exalted with their advocate unit attachment. I figure he will have to deploy wide. I also lose the roll to go first and choose this side to have a place where I can use the Fiery terrain to penetrate into his territory, and use the forest to try to hide myself while scoring on a flag.Yep. I had a plan. That generally means I'm in trouble. This seems like the ideal Exalted loadout, regardless of what caster you want to use. Single Supreme Guardian supporting and supported by three units of Immortals. This gives a steady source of recursion/souls without sacrificing attack volume. Sure, it can be pretty one dimensional (probably the sneakiest part about going into the immortals was that Defensive Strike feat from Zaad

My Lists for the Dice Dojo Steamroller March 9

We are hosting another dice dojo event at Chicagoland games this Saturday March 9. You can register for the event by submitting your lists at  https://conflictchamber.com/?event=734My own lists are publicly posted in advance. Left side, the model cutoff from Kolgrima is the minimum Long Riders, and right hand side the model cutoff from Grim1 is the Hooch Hauler. The Grim1 list is fun. I've played a variation of it before at Lock and Load and it performed admirably. I've traded the two minimum raider units in exchange for a full unit with a sorcerer just in case I need the magical weapons. I lose two bodies and an extra activation, but I like having the utility. The other way to gain that utility back would be to switch the krielstone elder to the stone scribe elder, but I feel like trying things with the Sorcerer and see how that goes.I've played all of one game with this iteration. As far as Kolgrima is concerned, the list is very similar to a standard Madrak1 list, and I'm debating whether or not it's jus

Game 8: Kolgrima Winterwitch vs. Lord Ghyrrshyld, the Forgiven

Round 2 of the ATC we played against Practice is for Chumps. I got drawn into (by either captain, I wasn't really paying attention to the draft) a match with Trevor Gould who dropped Goreshade4 into my Kolgrima. The plan here is to threaten the Dawnguard battle-engine with my bears and then try to contain the map on the left side with my champions.Goreshade's cavalry play some yoyo games in the fire cloud by stepping into and through to shoot at viable targets and then step back. He feats because I will have the capability to alpha strike on his army and he wants to gather souls for Goreshade for when I do.Kolgrima steps up to cast Cursed Fate on the Soulless Escorted Dawnguard Sentinels on the left flank to make sure any hit kills them. She feats and catches everything except the Soulless Escort. She also catches the battle-engine and, more importantly, Imperatus. Then she Vanishes back behind the Wall and behind a cloud with Rok beside her to cover her rightside.Trolls sweep through and clear all but one mod

Playing Kolgrima Stonetruth

I've been playing a lot of games with Kolgrima.I've been losing a lot of games with Kolgrima. If it helps, I think I know how/why I'm losing a lot of games with Kolgrima?Someone recently asked on the Trollbloods group how to play his list, so I'm writing this up here as I'm usually on my phone on facebook, and typing long messages sucks on a cell phone screen.(I originally stuck to keypads when I first got a smart phone and gave up on them due to mechanical problems involving the sliding mechanism of the keypad).Kolgrima protects her army in three ways. She presents clouds to hide them behind, protects a single model from enemy spells every turn, and for a single turn she can turn off guns (just turns them off, there's no workaround), removes pathfinder, flight, AND eyeless sight (which in turn can make clouds relevant again in certain matchups) AND pushes stuff back 2".Snowblind, indeed. The Winter Witch empowers her army with her offensive spells. Cursed Fate drops defense and makes models hit take one point

Game 6: Kolgrima vs. Grand Exemplar Kreoss part deux

Final round of the Champions event, and I drew Steven Mitchell playing (le sigh) Grand Exemplar Kreoss. In the pic above you can see me keeping my one unit of Fire Eaters just out of gun range of the Shrine of the Lawgiver. The left flank Fire Eaters are quite happy to play with the Fire Clouds.Again, I'm able to position Kolgrima aggressively, Hunter's Mark, and feat. This time around I avoid triggering Vengeance as much as possible. However, I still leave Rok kind of out there to be auto meleed to death by weaponmasters. He doesn't manage it this turn, but he does later on.Rok eats a shrine onlyThe best part about feating here is that Kolgrima removes pathfinder from the Judicator. The Judicator! Who's standing behind a wall! Can't shoot, can't charge! Can contest the zone and really I can't do much about that.Rok survives on dice, and we spend some time trying to clear a path to Kreoss. The path doesn't clear, so the Champions only get to do their part with the clearing rather than with the killing. Kolgrima

Game 5: Kolgrima Stonetruth vs. Grand Exemplar Kreoss

Round 2 of the Champions Steamroller I played Austin Thimesch on the Mirage map. I brought Kolgrima up against Kreoss2. He chose to go first and I chose to give him the side of the table with rubble on it.Our armies line up like so, and he looks at me and he looks at the 10" distance between the Bears and Judicator and Visgoth Rhoven. And he asks me straight out, "What are you doing here?""Asking to get shot I guess."So the Judicator aims and the choir sings Song of Battle because he forgets what his main gameplan against Kolgrima was. Sing Warding. Because Hunter's Mark. The Judicator does an impressive job opening a line of fire through and into the Bears and into Skaldi beyond. However, the Judicator is exposed. The Krielstone moves up and uses Wild Winds, Kolgrima casts Primal on Rok and advances 6" to the side and casts Hunter's Mark. She even feats just to give her some space, but of course it doesn't stop the Cinerators. Everything else maneuvers to clear a path for Rok.Rok charges for free with 6 Pow 20

Game 4: Kolgrima Stonetruth vs. Kommandant Sorscha Kratikoff

Round 1 of a local Champions event, I played Mateo who decided to field Kommandant Sorscha Kratikoff in Armored Corps. I dilligently played Kolgrima in Storm of the North.Assassination wasn't an option for me, not with Sorscha's armor, the ability to repair, and my inability to cast cold spells at her, so I decided to play for scenario and hope not to clock myself. With a cloud of fire on the table, I decided to split up my Fire Eaters, not because I thought they would handle the ARM 23 or whatever Shocktroopers, but because they'd be maybe enough to get in the way and would need Fire to be relatively threatening and durable.Sorscha's Warjacks are misdeployed and too far away to get Stoke the Flames. This makes them slower and unable to counter charge. Shock Troopers with Iron Flesh Advance up the table...in Shield Wall! What nonsense is this! (answer: Typical standard ARM 23 or whatever it is nonsense).Sorscha feats to cover her side of the table with clouds.Edrea gets PAthfinder so she move up and remove any

Game 2: Kolgrima Stonetruth vs. Iona the Unseen

Lost my second game of the year pretty badly against Chad. And when I say pretty, it was ugly.We did Kolgrima vs. Iona again. This time he brought zero cavalry and relied on Ravagers to do what they do, Ravage.I hate the matchup because he has a lot more important dangerous stuff than I do, and I don't have the attacks necessarily to deal with all of them. The other problem I had was that this time around I switched the list a bit to accommodate two min units of Raiders in place of Fire Eaters in order to increase the damage of my cold options, but this wasn't the time to try this out.In addition I lost the roll to choose 1st or 2nd and didn't pick the side closer to the forest for some reason. Against Tharn??? What was I thinking? These games against the Lord of the Feast start out the same a lot of the time where I feat early to deal with the Lord of the Feast, but it doesn't really help my problem because I don't have a solution lined up to deal with him the following turn.I try to maneuver my heavy to the c

Game 1: Kolgrima Stonetruth vs. Kommandant Sorscha Kratikoff

Jon Raffensperger came by to try out his Armored Corps theme force with Kommandant Sorscha Kratikoff. I've been playing my Kolgrima list a lot, so I played it even though I had an inkling he would bring Sorcha and would have taken assassination by cold spell off my available options. Because it's Armored Corps, I choose not to Ambush my Bears as they'd be far away from any necessary buffs and the featured Man-O-War units move very slowly. Jon didn't have a Chariot in play either, so I didn't have to out maneuver that thing. My biggest concerns on first turn was getting fury into the stone as my line would get stretched thin and away from its Protective Aura, and not getting my Fire Eaters killed, so I kept the unit closest to the Bombardiers behind clouds.  On my second turn I send in the Fire Eaters to potentially get in the way of two of his battlegroup, Beast-09 and a Kodiak. Beast-09 has Stoke the fires on him, and he uses countercharge to kill the Fire Eaters that lands beside Sorscha.I the

Battle: Kolgrima Stonetruth vs. Iona the Unseen

Chad came over and we played a game of Kolgrima into Iona, just to see what would happen. I won the roll to go first and had a little time to setup behind the forest before the Tharn came ravaging down the table. I was playing my standard Kolgrima list into double Ravagers, ambushing witches, Brig and Caul, and a unit of Wolfriders. My initial setup was to try to minimize alphas on my Fire Eaters, which I failed. There's an opening on the side of the cloudwall that leaves just enough space for Brigid to popa shot at one Fire Eater with her bow through the forest. However, just as silly is Chad leaving one of his Tharn Chieftains in ambushing range of my unit of Bears, taking Vengeance off the table for one unit of Tharn. This setup lets me activate my army before Kolgrima activates because with Lord of the Feast and wolf Riders on the table, I feel like I have to feat second turn, and there's this thing where sometimes you want your army to hurt things before Kolgrima can get to them with her feat as she pushes

Round robin round 3 : kolgrima vs. Thyra

13"That's the distance Fire Eaters can walk and spray and kill a lightly armored warcaster. Base SPD 6, additional SPD from the Northkin Elder, and it's easy enough to give them everything they need to threaten 13": fell caller pathfinder, pyre troll fire, even second unit can light them up.(Coincidentally, Grissel Marshal of the Rimeshaws can take that 13" and make it 14" with Dash)Everyone expects you to look for the assault threats that go out 16", so they think that line of sight denial is enough to stop you from burning them: cloud walls, forests, order denial. But you can step into a cloud wall, step into a forest, walk without orders. There are ways to prevent this. Usually it's as simple as a picket line that can engage the fire eaters on the outside of the 6" spray spot. Fire eaters can only spray while engaged if they assault. This seems obvious to some, but obvious also means I don't always look for it on the table myself. Francesc once talked me through an assassination on his own Haley3 by remindin

Round Robin Round 1: Kolgrima vs. Iona

Late post. Played in a round robin at Chicagoland Games the Dice Dojo last week, and round 1 I got to play Kolgrima into Chad Kaufman's Iona in the Devourer's Host. All the Tharn covered the front of the table. Just a whole bunch of Ravagers. I ambushed one unit of Bears and deployed one unit on the left flank. Chad's Wolf Riders were all over the Right Flank supported by Stalkers and a Champion. Once I saw this, I decided to make a play for the left flank instead, and started to make moves in that direction. One unit of Fire Eaters got lit up by the Pyre Troll and got sent after Two Wolf Riders on the hill. Kolgrima moved up behind the forest and aggressively feated with Vanish, managing to Snowblind all the way out to the Lord of the Feast. Her army was mostly safe near the woods as the frontline Tharn lost Pathfinder from Snowblind, and Rok started making moves to turn into the center zone. In response the Tharn positioned as best they could to reduce any inroads I'd make by presenting one o
