Undead Blood Bowl Team Painting Showcase (Cryptkickers)

I knew when I saw this team that I had to have it. I think the Undead team is the best looking one Games Workshop has put out for Blood Bowl - hands down. Also, I'm not normally one for undead/zombie things either, but these are just awesome. Also, I wanted to take a break from my Human team, the Titan Bay Thunderhawks. I've run them in 3 seasons at my FLGS and it was time for a change. I've been hoping GW would put out a Norse team soon (my favorite team), but I'm not going to hold my...continue reading

Sylvaneth Wood Elf Wild Riders of Kurnous Conversion & Sculpting

First, some fluff. As the personal guard of Orion, Wild Riders of Kurnous are aggressive and impulsive cavalry and much tougher than Glade Riders. They have transcended the status of elf and, through Orion have become akin to the forest spirits. They, like all forest spirits, become dormant during the winter but experience a violent rebirth in the spring, raiding lands from allied Bretonnia to the far north. Killing everyone from Bretonnians, Orcs, Beastmen, and even Wood Elves who accidentally cross paths with the wild hunt. Total, out of control badassery! As a Wood Elf player, you have got to...continue reading

Chronicles of Thor: Undead Painting Progress & Shameless Plugs

Here's the random stuff I've been up to. Undead Blood Bowl Team This has been my big push the past 4 weeks or so, my Undead team. It's also what I pledged for Squaduary. The beginning of March will be the start of a new season of Blood Bowl at my FLGS, so I'm pushing to make sure I get the team all painted. It's looking promising too. Squaduary Pledge That last Wight is halfway done at this point. What's left goes quick enough. Once I wrap that Wight up then it's on to painting two Mummies - the last...continue reading

#Squaduary 2019 by Stepping Between Games – My Pledge

Rory over at Stepping Between Games is hosting the 3rd (I think) #Squaduary where you commit to getting a squad painted up during February. I thought I'd enter this year with my Undead team. I have a start on them, as I've shown, but I still have some unpainted models to work on, plus getting most of them based. While I have no time crunch to get this team done, this seems like a perfect time to make that final push on them. I don't know about you, but as I near the end of a project I start losing...continue reading

Creating a Rogue’s Gallery Diorama for Dark Heresy – Part #2

The time is nigh for some of the antagonists to rise and for the first diorama to be plotted out. The Bleeding Wound Created during the 15th founding the Element Guardians were a blood angels successor chapter created from pre-heresy blood angels geneseed samples. For a time, this seemed to have been a success as the Element guardians did not show any signs of the black rage that manifested within other blood angel sourced chapters. The chapters librarians started using blood rites to enhance the fighting abilities of their brethren. These affectionately titled ‘Blood monks’ would eventually merge with the...continue reading

Really Simple Glazing Tutorial for Painting Miniatures

You've probably heard the term glazing before in reference to miniature painting. Maybe you're wondering what glazing is? While I don't know the proper technical definition an art teacher may tell you, I can explain to the best of my ability. Glazing is applying translucent paint over another layer of paint to alter the color in some way. It may be that a glaze is used to add saturation, or it could be used to completely change the color underneath. Either way, you're altering the appearance of paint by applying a glaze. I'm sure someone has a much better explanation,...continue reading

Chronicles of Thor: Gaming, Painting, and Brushes

Quite a bit going on since last I chronicled. Let's see what I can remember though... Blackstone Fortress I got to play this with Kamui a few weeks back. I honestly knew nothing of the game beyond the basic setting. My lack of interest in 40K has included anything in the setting. So, getting to play the game meant learning everything. I mean, that goes without saying with a new game, but as I said - I knew nothing at all about this game. Anyway, it was a lot of fun. Our goal was to learn how the game worked,...continue reading

Why Do You Suck at Painting? Learning the Hobby

This one popped up on one of the Facebook groups a while ago. New to the game and suck at painting. Any tips for a beginner? Why do you suck at painting? Because you’re beginning. This is a new hobby. You’ve not done it before. I am not specifically targeting the person in the post, it’s just the first one that I could find. I want to use this example to remind us all that we were beginners. And, like anything, being a beginner is hard. Because it’s supposed to be! Because you don’t wake up and decide today you’re...continue reading

Efreeti Emir Painting Showcase (Reaper Miniatures)

A quick blurb about this miniature and why I chose it. I bought this model a few years ago with the intention of using him as a Herald of Khorne for Warhammer 40K. Long story short, that never came to be and it's been sitting around. The model is Efreeti Emir and it's a Reaper Miniatures model. It's a metal model, which I dislike, but it was such a cool model that I didn't care :) Also, I have had the urge to play around with painting NMM forever now. However, until recently, I had batches of models to paint, not really ideal...continue reading

Chronicles of Thor – Back on the Hobby Horse and Forging Ahead

The last chronicle I did wasn't an uplifting one. My father had just passed away and I was dealing with a lot. Well, since then things have settled down. I still have a lot left to do regarding my father's affairs, but the breakneck pace I was running at for 2-weeks straight is over. I guess you could say that things are settling into a new normal. Twitter Giveaway Contest For weeks I had not touched a model. The motivation to paint wasn't there, plus I had nothing to work on. Since getting into Warhammer Underworlds, my paint queue had...continue reading

Scratch Built Warhammer Underworlds Terrain Painting Showcase

After I finished painting my Thorns of the Briar Queen I decided I needed to work on something different - a palate cleanser. I've been playing since Feb. 2017, and since then I've painted up 5 warbands. So, it was time to take a break, but do something productive, so I made some terrain. I had a bunch of random things around that I figured I could turn into Warhammer Underworlds terrain in short order. The first thing I did was to cut some plasticard into the appropriate hexagon shapes. From there I just threw things together. Seriously, my desk...continue reading

Creating a Rogue’s Gallery Diorama for Dark Heresy – Part #1

While playing Dark Heresy with my group of friends as the game master I had a few questions about what things looked like from a couple of those who did not play 40k that much. As such an idea formed, one where I could first create models to show them what their characters were seeing and then later after a few suggestions it turned into creating a couple of small dioramas depicting some potential scenes. The Background This was where I started when it came to create a setting for me to run my Dark heresy campaigns. The main location...continue reading

4 Different Ways to Paint Skulls & Bones for Miniatures (Tutorial)

I'll be showing you 4 different ways that I use to paint skulls and bones on my miniatures. There's way more than 4 approaches to painting skulls or bones, it's just these are the 4 techniques I always use the most depending on what I need. The techniques I'll show you will range from easy to advanced. Sometimes you just need to get something done, and other times you want that skull to be a focal point. I've got you covered either way. The other difference with my techniques is the color tone of the skulls. Two of the techniques...continue reading
