Where The Croods was the final movie we watched in our place in Antwerp, this american sci-fi film closed the era of Merksem binging.Because after writing this, my trusty computer was packed up and made ready for the move of places.A-X-L (Attack, eXploration and Logistics) is a robotic dog made by cutting edge military technology. After escaping by an experiment gone wrong, he is discovered by Miles in an abandoned scrapyard. Miles himself is a kid wanting to become a motorracer, and is left in the wilds after being set up by his biggest rival.A-X-L helps rebuilding Miles's lacking confidence, while he in turn, together with a girl named Sara, go to length to protect their new robotic friend, realising what is at stake should he be discovered. But when his rival tries to burn A-X-L with his flamethrower, the dog goes after him after a self-repair cycle to get revenge. Miles and Sara can stop him, but this results in their friend being recaptured by the scientist that created him.
You know that feeling. It's saturday evening, some flick comes on on cable television, and you are to lame to put on Netflix or something else so you just keep watching the thing?Well, that is exactly what happened for this movie when they played it on Q2, so Zac Efron and Anna Kandrick could do the job of trying to make me grin, let alone laugh...Mike and Dave are two irresponsible siblings, and the cause for many a family gathering going deep south. But when their little sister Jeannie gets married, they are forced to bring decent girls as dates. To that end, they put out an add on Craigslist and it goes viral very swiftly, causing two friends, tatiana and Alice, to pretend to be what they look for and go to Hawai for free.Pretend, because they are actually two rather wild, alcohol fueld, party drug imbibing, "ladies" instead of the decent dates they are looking for. Soon the wedding starts to get screwed up, for example when a quad bike crashes against the bride, or a masseuse clima
So, after (sort off) rebooting the X-men franchise, it's time (again) for the Dark Phoenix saga to be brought to the screen, and would they get it right this time? And it will also be the send off before our beloved mutants will appear in the MCU at last...The movie starts by exploring how Jean Grey came to professor Xavier as an 8 year old, after causing an accident that cost her parents their lives. Later on, the X-Men are called upon by the government to save the crew of the space shuttle, caught by a weird solar flare. However, having to go back to save the last member of the crew, the shuttle is hit by this energy wave, but Jean absorbs the full power of what turns out to be the Phoenix force, increasing her powers exponentially. Jean also has mental barriers, placed there by Xavier, broken down and remembers her parents accident... and that her father actually survived. This causes her to go berserk, and in the ensuing battle not only does she destroy a neighbourhood, she also kills Mystique as
This is it. the ULTIMATE bad taste B-movie of it's time. A movie so bad, it even got itself banned in Germany, Australia and Norway. And the sad fact, it was actually based on real life events...Ilsa is a commander in a german camp, conducting all kinds of horrific medical experiments on various women. And the fact she also has a huge apetite for men, doesn't help in making the wole movie less controversial. But when an american soldier resists her voracious lust, he hopes the allies will soon arrive and free them all. But the germans want to avoid any notion of their project being leaked out...A fun fact for the movie, is that it was filmed in the closing days of Hogan's Heroes, so yes, that is the set of that which features here as the camp. And the burning down helped that way in clearing out the set itself...The movie is one of those typical crap movies, so bad you actually keep watching it... if only for it's cult status. Considered raunchy in it's time (though no less n
Long time, no cooking on here. But a chance to fix that! To take care of my colleagues in the office on my birthday, I made some pizza rolls as Finger food. You can make your own ingredients or buy one of the pizza kits (those where the dough and sauce is included). I pre-mix […]
A fairy tale fantasy movie neither Noshi nor me had heard about, so when it was on flemish television a few weeks ago, we sat down and gave it a watch.Mind you, the subtitles we had to endure where terrible though as a result, to make it all rhyme in flemish...Made in 2014, this film ("starring" Johnny Depp, who is in the whole 2hr movie for like 5 minutes) is a filmed adaption of the musical of the same name, and as such most of the movie is being sang (and not by the actual actors). Think a bit Phantom of the Opera in movie style. The film combines the stories of Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella and Rapunzel into one tale of a childless bakers couple that want to lift a curse on their house in order to get a baby. This curse has been placed by their neighbourly witch years ago when the baker's father stole magical beans from her garden. In order to lift it, they need to obtain an item from each of the fairy tales, but this results in all the stories intermingling and chan
The highest grossing first month Disney "CGI" movie to date, as this true classic (it's in my top 3 of best animation Disney movies ever) has hit the movie theatres, but is it truly as good as the original.Short answer: almost, but not quite. Now, I take everyone knows the story, unless you are not a Disney fan and as such haven't seen the original (but if you don't like Disney, you probably won't go see this movie anyways) about the young lion Simba, destined to become king of the pride. AND HE IS FRAKKIN ADORABLE!!!!But his evil uncle Scar has other plans, and together with the Jackhals plans to get rid of Simba and his father, the ruling king Mufasa, by causing a stampede in the gorge near Pride Rock. He convinces young Simba it is his fault, and the lion cub flees, to be picked up by Timon and Pumba, who teach him the enjoyment of life. When Nala (more on her part in the movie later) can`t stand the decline of the kingdom anymore, she goes out for help and learns Simba didn`t die in the stampede
Based on the 90s manga of the same name, this movie has been the years long in development "pet project" of James Cameron (Aliens, Terminator, Avatar,...) that finally hit the theatres in 2019.And it paid off, placing itself in the top 10 of highest grossing films so far this year...Scientist Dr Ido discovers a cyborg body on the Scrapyard, dumping place of the floating city of Zalem. This city is the last remnant of the great war called "The Fall" which took place almost 300 years ago, and which took place between Mars and Earth. When Alita saves Ido, who is a Hunter-Warrior (basically, a bounty hunter) she strats to remember more and more of her past, and soon after she discovers her true origins when she finds a cyborg body called a Berserker. When she gets heavily damaged in combat with a villain called Grewishka, doctor Ido reluctantly installs her into this body, making her a feared angel of battle. She goes after the criminals that are out to get her instead, and most importantly a man called
Okay, I LOVE this movie. I'm grabbing the BluRay and it goes in my "often to rewatch" collection. And while many will disagree with me... I'll tell below. And no, it's not for the gorgeous Jing Tian...William and Pero, two european mercenaries looking for Black Powder, a mythical weapon they want to bring back to Europe. Surviving a night attack by a strange creature, they arrive at the Great Wall of China, commanded by General Shao and Strategist Wang. Here they learn the creature that attacked them was Tao Tei, a demonic race returning every 60 years to punish China for it's ancient greed. And the wall and it's protectors are all that stands between them. William joins the forces, and he sees a magnificent army at work during the desperate battles. But it turns out to all have been a distraction, as the Tao Tei had been tunneling underneath the wall and lay siege to the capital...Okay, so the movie in itself is your average "desperate historical fantasy battle" movie, but for me..
Me and Noshi sat down to watch the final instalment of the series, and while I liked the first one, the second one was to much Hunger Games to my liking. So let's see what this one brings though...The movie starts with a train robbery, in which the cargo are the last "Gladers", people immune to the Flare virus that ravages the world. As their friend is not on the train, they head to The Last City, headquarters of the WCKD (those responsible for operating the Maze etc) to free him.Spurring the seeds of rebellion, they manage to break in while the city wall is destroyed, and the populace from outside the walls storms in, besieging and looting the city as they go. As Thomas gets captured and tested, it is discovered that his blood contains the antigen for the deathly disease (and hence the movies name). As he and Teresa escape from Janson, the city collapses and Teresa looses her life in the process. The Right Arm resitance then manages to get their ship out to sea, and Thomas awakes on an island
Parodising the 1813 novel by Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies combines the lovestory set in victorian London with zombieslaying girls...Yeah, I agree, that seems like a mighty odd concept...Even though the movie went to production hell, as it originally would star Nathalie Portman, it still has a rather strong cast including Matt Smith and GoT illuminati Lena Headey and Charles Dance. It follows the original storyline of the classic novel, but adds elements of horror and zombies into it as it goes along, making for an entertaining film.Especially since it never becomes really dark or Walking Dead like. As London is the last remaining city in England not overrun by Zombies, the Bennet sisters are trained to fend off zombie attacks. But as a lady in that era was required, they also have to look for good husband to marry.During the courting with various prospects, a charming soldier named Wickham shows Elizabeth that there is a chance to coexist with zombies, but his plan is quickly
So the MCU has finally brought in the big hitters to tackle on Thanos, with this female lead (it is apparently a thing in today's society) origins story.Captain Marvel is as such the final movie before the Avengers: Endgame, and with half the heroes wiped out by the snap, it seemed the cavalry has been brought in big time. Now, what I liked about the movie especially, is all the knot backs to movies from before, like how the SHIELD base is the one from the beginning of The Avengers, or how the Kree Empire doesn't have that doom and gloom look yet it has in Guardians of the Galaxy. Or how MCU Fury lost his eye...The story itself is how a Kree warrior called Vers seems to have flashbacks to a previous life. Tought to hunt the shapechanging Skrull, she feels something is wrong and goes back to Earth to discover her past. Here she learns that she isn't who she appears to be, and how slowly her memories return with the help of a young Fury. During a hunt for a renegade Skrull scientist, Talos, she
Picking up a classic, Back to the Future, I bought the bundle blister Heroes 4 by Crooked Dice at Salute last year covering a not-Marty-McFly and not-Michael Knight (the later of course has nothing to do with BTTF). As I thought these would make a great addition to Zombie Survivors. By chance I stumbled upon […]
A bit under the radar in the end, Venom was one of the anti-hero Marvel movies of 2018, produced by Sony in the Spider-verse.So we sat down and where ready to be emerged in what should become part of a joined universe... which now all is going to roll into the MCU apparently... While exploring space for new habitable worlds, a probe belonging to the bio-engineering corporation Life Foundation discovers a comet covered in symbiotic lifeforms. The probe returns to Earth with four samples, but one escapes and causes the ship to crash in Malaysia. The Life Foundation recovers the other three and transports them to their research facility in San Francisco, where they discover that the symbiotes cannot survive without oxygen-breathing hosts, which often fatally reject the symbiosis. Investigative journalist Eddie Brock reads about these human trials in a classified document in the possession of his fiancée Anne Weying, an attorney preparing a lawsuit defense for the Life Foundation. Brock confronts Life Foundati
Initially, even though I loved Mary Poppins, I wasn`t intrested in this rumoured reboot. But then we saw the first trailer, and learned it was a sequel indeed... so me and Noshi sat down for some good Disney time. The film is set in 1930s London. After the death of his wife a year earlier, Michael Banks lives in his childhood home with his three children, Annabel, John, and Georgie, and with his sister Jane. Michael has taken a loan from his employer, the Fidelity Fiduciary Bank, and Wilkins, the bank's corrupt new chairman, sends associates to warn him that his house will be repossessed if the loan is not repaid in full by Friday. Michael and Jane recall that their father had left them shares in the bank that should cover the loan, and they search the house for the share certificate. During the search Michael finds his childhood kite and decides to dispose of it.While out in the park with Annabel and John, Georgie finds the kite and flies it. Mary Poppins descends from the sky with the kite in her ha
