Further progress for the 30 Days 30 Miniatures with a Moor and five Norman/Christian Spanish Crossbowmen completed. The next five crossbowmen are already underway below. The colour of the tunics is more muted than that of the finished crossbowmen which will give the finished units a slight variance in colour.Next will be more Numidians and Spanish skirmishers for the Caesarian and Carthaginian forces that have been getting worked on.Day 11 - 8 finished figuresCheers for now
Off the desk this week some Breton peons, adding to my Dark Age Domnonée army, this base could also be used as Franks, Anjou-Maine or Normans.28mm Gripping beast plastics with some Victrix heads and hands, plus some metal sheilds, several more units not to far away from completion.CheersMatt
Been a struggle over the last week and a half to get some good time to paint; however that changed in a positive way last night and a good start was made on the mercenary crossbowmen for all things Dark Ages.Below is the bedlam on the tray just now with a lot of Greeks in progress held up by a delayed, well not delivered, paint from a reputable figure supplier. The crossbowmen are on the pallette - ceramic tile - and and will be used as Mercenaries, Normans, Christian Spanish and even First Crusaders. There are another dozen of these to be painted that will be used for ADLG and Hail Caesar in the future. Those shown below will see use in SAGA and WAB. Yes, that's WAB.The figures are from Gripping Beast and will be the first figures for the 30 Days 30 Figures challenge started yesterday. Full details on the next post.As mercenaries in WAB the crossbowmen will see action with a Norwegian based Viking army at 1,000 points. More of that in the future.Cheers for now
After a name and brand bickering, that I first thought was an April fools joke, Footsore Miniatures - who took over Musketeer Miniatures back in the day, came back to their name. With Gangs of Rome, they went with the name of Warbanner and recently Games Workshop got in touch with them, as Warbanner would […]
Hi! Today we had a game last Thursday. We returned to our saga. As you remember from our last game Henri the Red get killed and Bishop Luitpold Der Fette get captured. It was great victory for joint forces of Rolund, Rudolf the Insane and Reiner. That massive army need money and bishop promised to pay for his freedom a lot of money. Victorious commanders agreed for that conditions and set him free. The promised money should arrived in one month time, but didn't. Now the commanders decided to pay a visit in Fetthausen, where bishop live. They don't know that bishop called Henri II son, Henri III for help... For game we used Hail Caesar! rules. Witam! Dzisiaj gra, którą rozegraliśmy w zeszły czwartek. Powróciliśmy do naszej sagi.
Moving forward with another three sets of figures. First up, Late Roman archers from Gripping Beast. These will be ideal for supporting missile units and skirmishers. Also pictured are the first Crusader cavalry in 15mm as well as some command figures. Next some classic plastic skeletons from Citadel along with the occasional metal figure in here too.Last up, original Normans from Foundry. These have had more colour added with two layers of flesh added and the base coat for the armour and metallics.More to follow along with a rebasing update.Cheers for now.
This challenge was indeed that with mixed motiviation for the hobby in general this past 5 - 6 weeks. The final challenge came this week with being away with no internet access or 4G. The feeling of isolation lasted for about an evening then the digital detox started. Recommend it to all - disconnect for a week it is rewarding. It also meant however that this post is late, the shame! So, back to the challenge and yes it was a success with more than thirty figures being completed in time, just mind you.Two 28mm figures for SAGA or any Dark Ages skirmish game in general. A Gripping Beast Viking on the left and a Foundry Norman on the right.A Macedonian phalanx in 6mm with 27 figures on a 40 x 30mm.A mix of stands for ACW gaming with figures from Freikorps (centre) and Old Glory on the outsides. The single figures are for break through markers and the others are casualty markers. Here is the group shot of everything together; 37 figures in total including the terrain piece.6mm: 27 infantry15mm: 7 infantry28mm: 2 in
Our Norman saga continues. Forces of Rolund has been beaten. His ally Rolf get killed and he had to withdraw to his lands. The situation was very bad. Henri together with bishop Luidolf moved their forces against Rolund. However Rolund decided to prevent this and send for help to his brother in law Rudolf the Insane and to Rolf's brother Reinar. Both respond positively for this call. Rudolf arrived to the Rolund's land soon after Rolf's death and took command over the whole forces as the much more experienced. However there was no news from Reiner, yet. Rudolf moved whole his army on the border of Rolund's lands to cross the way incoming army of Henri. For the game we used the Hail Caesar rules.Kontynuacja naszej normańskiej sagi. Siły Rolunda zostały pobite. Jego sprzymierzeniec Rolf został zabity, musiał więc wycofać swoje siły na swoje ziemie. Sytuacja była bardzo zła. Henri razem z biskupem Luidolfem ruszył przeciw Rolundowi. Jednakże Rolund postanowił temu przeciwdziałać i posłał po pomoc do swojego szwa
This 30 days 30 miniatures painting challenge has come to an end. Below are the last figures painted for this challenge; a solitary Norman from Foundry and 18 Arabs from Essex. Two different scals and two very different painting styles. The 15mm figures are painted using block and wash whilst the 28mm figure is layered from base colour to highlight. Will post a full review of this challenge shortly.Day 30Figures painted: 30Cheers for now
Today is the 952nd anniversary of the Battle of Hastings. The picture below by Angus McBride shows the moment when William, Duke of Normandy raises his helm to show he is still alive.Below is another interpretation of the same moment however, this time from Colin Patten and Gripping Beast. Not the best pictures however the natural light hasn't been the best when the free time has been available to take the pics. Cheers, for now.n
Day 21 of this 30days30 miniatures painting challenge sees the continuation of the Romano Brits with another Hearthguard for SAGAAs with previous members of this warband the figure is from Gripping Beast.A spontaneous decision last night saw the painting subject being taken from the rear. Worked out well and two long forgotten Foundry Normans saw some colour for the first time in over a year.It would seem that the point of this painting challenge has strayed somewhat as there are more figures edging around the painting table than at the start. Need to sort this out and finish off some of those figures that are nearer the finish line than others.Oh that and the fact that its the last third of this challenge.Day 21Figures painted 11Cheers for now
Today some new figures for few of my collections.Dzisiaj kilka nowych figurek dla kilku z moich kolekcji.1. Normans. Normanowie.First is the big reinforcements for my Normans. Our Norman saga continues. After last game (link here), my forces split off. Rolund move back to his land and Rolf moved to plunder Henri's land. That was mistake, as Henri's forces still were at full strength. Norman prince send his spies to track Viking. Finally they found them camping at the lonely hill. That was the opportunity for the Henri to destroy those annoying pagans. He moved his forces to catch them. He did that and they were lonely, but prepared for the battle. Henri didn't know, that Rolf is waiting here to join forces of Rolund, but no one knows when he will arrive. The battle begins... For the game we used Hail Caesar rules. Normański książe wysłał swoich szpiegów, by śledzili Wikinga. W końcu odnaleźli go, obozującego na samotnym wzgórzu. To była doskonała ok
Here are some of the Norman foot that Shaun McTague has painted for me- I hope to eventually have around four times this many. They are mounted on temporary painting blocks- I really should be finishing them, but am currently addicted to the ECW!
First of all very sorry for the long break.Work, family, work, family, work - a total lack of time ...Get to the point - we want to start play SAGA in our gaming club.I chose the Normans. Two reasons:1. I spent last summer in Normandy, really like...
