Ranger of Shadow Deep, Mission : Burning Light. Scenario B: The Ruined Chapel

PROLOGUEBlackwulf’s report- no clues in the courtyard as to the Decanters location, just many undead. The fountain statues hand that seemed to point toward library was sheared off. Noises from the Chapel have our attention, we search there next. It seems as if the creatures from the Shadow Deep may have first entered here..the Stench of Death is strong. From what we have seen there are likely no survivors. This report is a complete play-throughAll die rolls are shown as (x) all combat rolls are shown as (x,x) with the heroes roll always being first.Correctionsit was pointed out to me (by the games author no less) that I was interpreting the use of the event deck incorrectly. Only two shadow deep cards are added each scenario, but each time its next consecutive two cards from the shadow deep event list so you remove the previous cards . so for this 9 turn mission we have 8 events , 6 scenario based events and 5thand 6th card from the Shadow Deep event deck.Pre Game NotesBoard is scaled down to 20 “x 20 “

Rangers of Shadow Deep, Mission: Burning Light. Scenario A: The Gatehouse

A week ago, one of your fellow rangers stumbled into camp, escorting a Lorenthian survivor she had rescued from a pack of Orcs in the Shadow Deep. During their debriefing, they mentioned seeing the ruins of the Convent of St. Emilia, once a great house of healing in Lorenthia. It is said that the nuns never turned away anyone that came to them in sickness, and that they were aided in their mission through the possession of a powerful magic artefact, the Decanter of St. Emilia, also known as the Decanter of Burning Light. Water poured from this silver decanter onto a wound would wash it free of any infection, poison, or other corruption. The ranger didn’t approach the convent but, from what she could tell, the place appeared abandoned. The walls were cracked, and several of the towers had collapsed. Soon afterwards, you were summoned by your captains. They explained the situation and tasked you to venture into the Shadow Deep, make your way to the ruins, and, if possible, find the Decanter of St. Emilia

Adepticon, the long road back.

My Frostgrave Warband for tomorrows Adepticon CampaignAdepticon 2019 starts today over in Schaumburg, IL and now mere 2 hours away on the west side of the greater Chicago area.  Now its 17th year its gone from a couple hundred person Games Workshop fan event to the largest top gaming convention in the US. I have been to 11 of them starting in 2007 I made it 10 years in a row, until I burned out. Letting things that shouldnt really have bugged me , its just folks playing games after all, bug me. As the convention grew so did  my expectations and when growth and expectation failed my own litmus test, I got pissed. I returned in 2017 just as a spectator with my kids , doing some shopping, marveling at the displays and games and doing the take and paint. Last year we didnt go at all. This year was to be my 12th year, I bought a badge, and signed up for the Frostgrave, day long Campaign event "The Great Wyrm" run by my favorite tourney organizers whose games and events outside Adepticon since 2

Rangers of Shadow Deep, Mission 3: Descent into Darkness, Scenario 3: The Last Stand , Part I

Mission 3: Descent into Darkness, Scenario 3: The Last Stand Having pushed through the swamp, the land becomes firmer and the gnarled trees less dense. The rolling black clouds above still cast everything in a perpetual twilight and ash and smoke still drifts in the air. For the most part, the land is quiet. No birds sing, no insects call out. Occasionally, a small animal twitters from the shadows or scampers through the dead leaves. Twice you have spotted small patrols composed of gnolls and masked men, but both times you have been able to find cover and remain undetected. With few indications of the passage of time, you are forced to rely on your own reckoning and the growl of your stomach to know when to call halts, rest, and eat. You have passed several streams, which seem to contain fresh water, though you remain wary of drinking from them.Just as your companions are starting to tire, and you are considering calling a halt for sleep, youspy a broken structure in the gloom ahead. The Blackbarrow Chronicles , Episode 4- The Cult of Orcus ,Part I

Summers distraction’s certainly got the better of me, but an early harsh fall has us spending weekends inside and me getting back to some fantasy gaming. We actually played this awhile back but the time it take to put these write ups together plus all the other things I want to mention should be an easy 2 or part post, Ill get the game in here and most of post game , advancement details in Part 2.Let start with basics: we revisited the Otherworld Skirmish rules for this and had a grand old time,  while our homebrew RPG rules were cool they’re a bit busy and for this bigger skirmish I wanted something totally fleshed out.Having played an posted a bunch of Otherworld Skirmish (OWS)  games before I was prepared ,  but the game does has some shortcomings which I needed to resolve for the ongoing narrative of the endless campaign based on our little village.  While I have always liked this game , the draw backs for me were always- There are no Campaign rules , There is  a serious lack of c
