Reaper Bones V, it's one hot potato.

Tomorrow Reaper Bones V drops its newest Kickstarter , I dropped the being a gaming industry gadfly a long long time ago and haven't posted any kind commentary in I dont know how long.Anyone who has read this blog more than a couple time since 2007!!! knows I am a long time supporter of Reaper Miniature- the company, in fact these days most of my miniatures either as gaming or display pieces are from Reaper.I was supporter on Bones 4 which just delivered in April of this year from my Wave 5 status due to certain pieces in my order being shipped late from the factory in China.  I didnt bother blogging about my hassles then but as time has gone on with another Bones KS dropping seemingly crazy soon after,  its worth pointing out some the issues I had and some of my observations.Reaper just finalized delivery of Bones 4 this summer to the final Australian  markets.  Now barely 3 months later moving to Bones 5 seemingly finalizes the move into Reaper Miniatures joining the existing slew of com

Painted 28mm Tcho-Tcho Gang from Black Cat Bases

Figures from Black Cat BasesThe first batch of Tcho-Tchos are finished, and I must admit, I'm rather pleased with the result. I decided to use a mix of US army green and Chinese grey for the trousers, as though the gear was scavenged.  I leave the details of that to your imagination...Here's another pic of recent finished figures for height comparison:Left to Right: Crooked Dice, Black Cat, ReaperUntil next time...Ω

Horace "Action" Jackson and Ebony Foxx by Reaper Miniatures

Continuing my Philadelphia Chronicle 1970s campaign setting, here are two private investigators from the west Avenue.Miniatures from Reaper, 1/43 '65 Pontiac GTO by WellyThese are two delightful minis from Reaper's Chronoscope line.  Horace "Action" Jackson is a tall mini, made all the more imposing by his 'fro. In his silk-rayon disco shirt, heavy gold-plated medallion, platform shoes and flared black slacks, this mini embodies the spirit of the 70s like an Isaac Hayes 8-track..The Ebony Foxx miniature has a tied top with flared collar (lovely), flared slacks, platform shoes and sports a .357 magnum, with a Pamela Dobson attitude - kind of a "Tell it to the fuzz, sugah!" vibe.  Also a tall mini, which matches up well with Pam Dobson's 6' 2" height. Both of these minis are forming a Private Investigator/Angel of Justice team for 7TV1:Scipio "Africanus" Norman and Charelle "Foxy" Love are solid cats, keeping the peace on the neighborhood streets. Unless the Fuzz drop in to jock your jaws - then, it ge

Reaper Bones Wizard painted..............

Well, I've caught the painting bug somewhat and decided to take a mini out of the latest Reaper Bones Kickstarter box....Arakus Landazad, sculpted by Bobby Jackson and converted to plastic by a.n.other in some inscrutable Chinese laboratory. The mini was easy to put together with superglue, the only drawback being cleaning the mold lines......I think a sharp blade would work wonders as attempting to file the material doesn't work too well. I gave him a wash in soap and water and allowed him to dry....black undercoat went on without a problem and I built up from there.....The professional paint job by Jen Greenwald (pic borrowed off  the Reaper site) just blows me away......wish I'd checked it before starting mine......https://www.reapermini.com/search/wizard/latest/03958As always; enquiries@deartonyblair.co.uk

Rangers of Shadow Deep, Mission: Burning Light. Scenario C: The Courtyard.

PROLOGUE Before entering the courtyard Blackwulf is given the Lorenthian messengers satchel recovered by Sigurd. Blackwulf attempts to read the runes inscribed on a sealed letter inside  +2  roll (20)  and instantly recognizes it as an old ranger cipher once used by both kingdoms during better days.  Blackwulf reads it and calls for Xavos!?  ..”Xavos is still at Tor Varden, Chief “  mutters Skuti.. “ Scribes never around when you need one right?” Blackwulf fumbles for some paper and a charcoal stick from the messengers satchel and starts to write :Blackwulf’s Report:  Met maximum resistance at the Covent Gathouse. Ogres, Undead. We were lucky. The Knight Calistra fights like shes possessed by St Emilia herself. When Sigurd and I found ourselves locked in combat with the brutes, she entered the fray and slew them with a single stroke, not once, but twice. Evil magic is at work here, bound by magic chains, the flayed dead come back to life. Lorenthia was here as well

Rangers of Shadow Deep, Mission: Burning Light. Scenario A: The Gatehouse

A week ago, one of your fellow rangers stumbled into camp, escorting a Lorenthian survivor she had rescued from a pack of Orcs in the Shadow Deep. During their debriefing, they mentioned seeing the ruins of the Convent of St. Emilia, once a great house of healing in Lorenthia. It is said that the nuns never turned away anyone that came to them in sickness, and that they were aided in their mission through the possession of a powerful magic artefact, the Decanter of St. Emilia, also known as the Decanter of Burning Light. Water poured from this silver decanter onto a wound would wash it free of any infection, poison, or other corruption. The ranger didn’t approach the convent but, from what she could tell, the place appeared abandoned. The walls were cracked, and several of the towers had collapsed. Soon afterwards, you were summoned by your captains. They explained the situation and tasked you to venture into the Shadow Deep, make your way to the ruins, and, if possible, find the Decanter of St. Emilia

Rangers of Shadow Deep, Mission 3: Descent into Darkness, Scenario 3: The Last Stand , Part I

Mission 3: Descent into Darkness, Scenario 3: The Last Stand Having pushed through the swamp, the land becomes firmer and the gnarled trees less dense. The rolling black clouds above still cast everything in a perpetual twilight and ash and smoke still drifts in the air. For the most part, the land is quiet. No birds sing, no insects call out. Occasionally, a small animal twitters from the shadows or scampers through the dead leaves. Twice you have spotted small patrols composed of gnolls and masked men, but both times you have been able to find cover and remain undetected. With few indications of the passage of time, you are forced to rely on your own reckoning and the growl of your stomach to know when to call halts, rest, and eat. You have passed several streams, which seem to contain fresh water, though you remain wary of drinking from them.Just as your companions are starting to tire, and you are considering calling a halt for sleep, youspy a broken structure in the gloom ahead. Rangers of Shadow Deep, Mission 2, The Beacon Tower: Scenario 2 Tor Varden

Rangers of Shadow Deep, Mission 2, The Beacon Tower: Scenario 2  Tor Varden, The Lower LevelThis report is a complete playthrough.Full layout of lower levels with all the bits for the potential 4 rooms.Pre-game notes.I already gave my initial thoughts on the scale down of the towers rooms  in my last post but-Wow I still had a lot more to do here than I Initially planned. Not only did I build the modular floors and walls for all 3 rooms, I had put together a bunch of different things to fill out all four potential rooms in the scenario.  Thankfully I had all the bits and pieces I needed it just took me while to paint 20 something small bits of scatter terrain / atmosphere decoration. This in the end was a good thing as its better now painted up for use then sitting around in a bin on my desk.I also put everything together for Scenario 3 which included even more pieces, while I get to reuse my floor tiles as the tower roof  , the walkway, floor hatch, bonfire, prisoner, pilla

Necromancer // Nekromanta

The miniature is called Satheras, Elf Warlock. It was produced by Reaper Miniatures and sculpted by Bobby Jackson. I bought it several years ago as it was released as one of the first minis in Reaper Bone Series. Figurka wydana kilka lat temu przez Reaper Miniatures w serii Bone. Tani plastyczny materiał,z którego została wyprodukowana nie ułatwiał malowania, ale jak na model za kilka złotych wyszło całkiem dobrze.

Rangers of Shadow Deep, The Beacon Tower Episode 1, The Bridge Guards Play-through.

Rangers of Shadow Deep, Mission 2: The Beacon Tower. Ep 1: The Bridge GuardsThe following is my 3rd Rangers of Shadow Deep complete play- throughPre-game notesDidn’t have to a lot for this one either other than paint up my “Terrain Crate” Camp site, the Vulture and one more Frostgrave Soldier for a potential Tor Varden Man at Arms. The mission specifies  Gnolls as the adversary . I don’t own any Gnolls, but I could not think of better use for my horde of Lord of the Rings  Orcs and primary agents of Shadow Deep in my games , the Orcs have the exact same stats as the Gnolls presented in the mission or the RoSD bestiary. All die rolls are shown as (X) all combat rolls are (x,x) The first number always being the heroes. There is no Target Point in this scenario but the Orcs will never randomly move into the river. This scenario lasts a maximum of ten turns. During the event phase of each odd- numbered turn (so turns 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9)  I will draw one Event Card

Efreeti Emir Painting Showcase (Reaper Miniatures)

A quick blurb about this miniature and why I chose it. I bought this model a few years ago with the intention of using him as a Herald of Khorne for Warhammer 40K. Long story short, that never came to be and it's been sitting around. The model is Efreeti Emir and it's a Reaper Miniatures model. It's a metal model, which I dislike, but it was such a cool model that I didn't care :) Also, I have had the urge to play around with painting NMM forever now. However, until recently, I had batches of models to paint, not really ideal...continue reading
