I've been painting. Some of it's been further experiments with Contrast® paints.So... eight and a half years ago I bought a pile of these dirt cheap 1/35 scale Maschinen Krieger (Ma.K) models... and haven't really done anything with them. Through long and convoluted series of circumstances and thoughts and ideas, I got to working n a few of them this last week.My general idea was that these could be part of a Rogue Trader's personal retinue. The equipment might be of Xenos origin - having been out beyond the imperium for so many years (decades... CENTURIES...!?) they've taken on equipment of xenos manufacture or design - to replace equipment that was lost or broke beyond repair along their journey. Either that or possibly a unit of mostly human mercenaries working in the employ of the T'au...?I did try converting a few to incorporate actual 40k weapons... but they mostly ended up looking goofy. The most I've left with their original weaponry and just repainting and adding pilots to the ones that are opened up
A bit of weathering and some bases were all that they needed. The process was enlightening since I determined that I need more dense or stiffer sponges for weathering effects. As well, the ink washes I was using to add staining to the models needs to be watered down further or I need a different... Continue Reading →
While trying to avoid painting my Blood Bowl Elves I decided to assemble and paint some more Battle Suits for my Ghar Rebel army. I started doing them and then pulled out some older models and realized that these look entirely different from the models I painted previously. Luckily I seem to have no consistent... Hi All,My last report from BOYL 2019. The Sunday game was a relaxed affair as we were all winding down from a tour de force weekend. Cheetor ran this game using the rules from some boxed Terminator game. I can't keep it straight which one it was, but the figures and terrain were great and the rules pretty straight forward. After a quick explanation we were off to save the future, or was that the past? Who knows? On a technical note, I did all the comicifying and special effects in photoshop. I think I need to work on the technique a little more, but I like the results overall. All the text was added when I did the panels in Comic Life 3.I'll most likely post a little bit about my new comic process and then hopefully about stuff I'm working on for upcoming games. Thanks for looking.Happy hobbying.
I have managed to finish off a few random models this week, in a vain attempt to make way for new stuff, but there is still more to clear yet. This batch are for Rogue Stars and any other miscellaneous sci-fi games I get into. The first two are Aberrant Games models, both law keepers and so destined for a Space Cops crew, really nice models. A blast from the past is this old Imperial Psyker, I had a bit of trouble getting some old paint off of it, but after a quick paintjob, he will join the Star Cops crew. I thought these two Spartan Games models would make interesting armoured SWAT type models. As I was undecided what colour to go for, and they had been undercoatd in white, I opted for a Stormtrooper paint scheme, then again, that is just lazy. A spare Karman model got a repaint, not sure what for yet, but he came up quite nice. Finally, a Westwind armoured chap, originally for the Japanese Weird War II force, but using a Space Marine head, he is now a general hero type dude.
Hi All,I thought I'd just take a moment to talk about how I modeled my Ash Waste Racer for the game at BOYL 2019.For me it started with the fact that I knew I had some damaged Flagellants somewhere in the lead pile from an EBay purchase. After stripping the figure I took my jeweler's saw to the bottom half and split it up the middle. This was actual more difficult than I thought it would be.Next I had to source a mount. Terror Birds, Giant Insects, Dinosaurs had all sort of gone through my mind. I finally settled on a Basilisk. Who doesn't love a giant, 8 legged, lizard? I narrowed it down to two, but there was really only one option. The Reaper Basilisk sculpted by Bob Olley. So some snipping of back spines, a few pins to hold things in place, and a weapon swap to make him "sci-fi" and Bob Olley's your Uncle! If you were following my progress in the run up to BOYL, then you know that I procrastinated a lot and was very pressed for time. I quickly abandoned elaborate ideas about stowage and ended up fashioning h
Hi All,For the final game of BOYL Saturday we were treated to a race run by Axiom of Magpie and Old Lead. Each player converted up their own rider and mount for some apocalyptic wasteland mayhem. What follows is my somewhat sketchy account, in comic form. I hope it comes across as fun as it was.Well done to Whiskeypriest on winning the race. Poor Mr. Saturday came in second because everyone was taking pot shots at his award winning figure, even yours truly.Anyway, Axiom is a cat herder extraordinaire, and kept a huge game running smoothly. Next up I'l probably do my Racer build log and then a talk about a new method for comicafying photos that I've learned. This will give me time to try the new method out on my last BOYL report, Terminator: Apotheosis. Thanks for looking.
You can't have a science fiction range of this nature without at least one heavily augmented robot or cyborg type and this one fits the bill. Rather than shiny chrome and helpful demeanour, this individual looks more than a little menacing. Battletech has been going through a bit of a renaissance lately and I think that a large part of it has to do with the new visual design of the mechs as well as a recent legal decision that has allowed Catalyst Game Labs to re-introduce the Unseen designs back into the game. During its... Continue Reading →
I'm having trouble picking a color scheme for these heroic "Astro Guards" I've been working on for Star Schlock. I knocked together some quick color studies to compare them, but still can't settle on one. Do you have a preference? Thanks for helping me decide!
Hoi,Quite some years ago I owned a nice sizeable army of Sisters of Battle for 40k. During my GW Dark-Age however, I sold most of my armies and with them the Sisters. Selling them was hard, it was the army I most hated to het rid off, recently the news that plastic SoB's are on the horizon filtered through to me and I jumped on the wagon again. I have obtained quite a lot of SoB characters and Sisters and even some stuff I didn't own back in the days of old. Painting is slow because I cannot choose what colour scheme. I have found a great blue and white scheme on Pinterest but when I did a test- figure it didn't feel right...So I started on some of the other figures to start with. Two Death Cult Assasins and a Hospitaler. The Hospitaler is one of the few figures I kept back from my original army and she wore pretty much the same colours then. The Assasins are new, well okay second hand since I bought off Ebay, a great source of figures specially if they come at a nice price. I really like how the Assasi
I finished up a second batch of ghouls from the Ghostbusters game. These fellows all got a fleshy treatment.I also finished off a long-neglected Cthulhu mini from RAFM that I think I got from Chen (some kind of undead dragon?).And I painted a 40mm Qui-Gon Jinn that I got from somewhere. Weird scale, but I have a matching Darth Maul who is next on my list.Up next: Some superhero action from the club and then back to the ghouls.
An odd and unusual assortment of stuff rolling off the workbench this week...Not all THAT odd and unusual: A couple of Necromunda figures - a Van Saar Juve and an Escher Ganger. The Van Saar Juve was a test figure to see if I liked the purple body suit for them. I do. I didn't want to do th standard green as my Cawdor gangers are all in Green. I was planning to do the Orlocks in mostly blue. The Redemptionists are Red. Escher are multi-coloured and Selaqure are black. Yellow and Orange are just a pain in the ass to paint.... so... purple...Speaking of Purple... an assortment of crates and drums in purple... just for a bit of variety.A couple of Hired Guns/Bounty Hunters for Necromunda. The guy with the plasma gun will have to be a Bounty Hunter as Hive Scum can only have items that are Rare (7) or lower. The guy with the twin bolt pistols COULD be Hive Scum... but he just looks a little too bad ass... so I guess they'll both be Bounty Hunters!Still 40K, but not necessarily for Necromunda... an old Psyker figur
A gang of Spyrer brats have descended Downhive to go hunting for sport. They've been wreaking havoc for the last few cycles, killing and and mutilating and maiming for giggles. Local guilders have put a price on their heads. Most who have lost loved ones, though, would be willing to take their heads for free...Someone had discovered their means of egress - an Arvus Lighter - locked away in a secluded hanger. One only needs to wait until they come to leave...Last game with the three kids for this week, I wanted to try out the Spyrers. The Spyrers objective it to make it to the Lighter. The gangs' objective is to make sure they never do. The Lighter was locked in a hanger - if the gangs can bypass the locks they COULD do damage to the Lighter, but it was fairly tough... If they did destroy it, the Spyrers could escape by heading back to the left they started from and find another way out from another level.Explaining the scenario to the kids. The Spyrers in their entry point - a cargo left. The Spyrers geta
