2000pts battle report - Imperial Knights & Dark Angels v Iron Hands Space Marines - LCO 5

Last game of the tournament and I've got Robin Neill from Geeks Wargaming you can see the preview of his army list here. I think Otty might have been up against Iron Hands this weekend too [if not Neill himself] as I'd overheard something about their durability - apparently a 6+ Feel No Pain equivalent throughout.I think I finished deploying first and despite going as far up the board as possible I still had a long way to go to reach the Astartes...as Robin deployed well back in his zone, surrounding a big invul buffing Dreadnought with the rest of his Dread crew.We rolled off and I won first turn for a 100% success for the weekend. With so far to go the Lancer had to Flank Speed [another obscene 10 or 11" advance] but had the bikes with him to score the objective. Actually I'm not sure what happened here as this is clearly Robin's end of movement phase. I'm guessing the Lancer did not make its charge as it's too far back but I did manage to kill something [I'm guessing a Dreadnought]. The Razorback coul

Conquered

I really should have learned by now that there is absolutely no point in trying to plan my projects ahead of time. I've gotten pretty good at seeing projects through to completion, but when it comes time to choose a new project it's going to be whatever feels most exciting at the time, no matter what I may have thought before hand. After I got finished with my English Civil War companies, my Shadow War campaign was still underway*, but keeping the kill-teams up to date really didn't take much time, so I was at a loose end. At about that time Warhammer 40,000 Conquest came out.For anyone not paying attention, Warhammer 40,000 Conquest is a weekly part work magazine published by Hachette Publishing under licence from Games Workshop. Over the course of the magazines run, you can collect two armies for 40K, Plague Marines and Space Marines, plus scenery, paints and brushes. The collection leans heavily on Games Workshops "easy-to-build" range as well the contents of the Dark Imperium boxed set.I snapped up the fir

2000pts battle report - Imperial Knights & Dark Angels v Deathwatch - LCO 4

Day 2, game 4, scenario 4: What's Your's is Mine. 5 objectives, 1 in the middle, 1 each in your deployment zone and 1 each in your opponents DZ. Bonus points to control both the objectives you placed. I'd be facing Rick Martin and his Deathwatch and thanks to the wonders of the Best Coast Pairings app I knew that the night before. My main concerns were his Corvus Blackstar, Mortis Dreadnought and Razorback. There was a smattering of Imperial Guard too, for bubble wrap and CPs but with the table setup below I deployed aggressively to close that gap as soon as possible. I won the first turn yet again and Rick was unable to steal the initiative. The Lancer went straight down the line and thanks to the small 'no man's land' in the table quarters setup getting to that front lien was easy. A Warglaive joined it, while the other flanked the ruin to get an angle on the Razorback, as did the Predator. Meanwhile Euronymous went between the ruins to be up front and target the tank. The Dark Talon overflew the guard in th

2000pts battle report - Imperial Knights & Dark Angels v Nurgle Chaos Daemons - LCO 3

Game 3 and I have Andrew Davies with his mixed Chaos Daemons - Nurgle and Tzeentch. This was Scenario 2: Cut to the heart. 3 Objectives, one in the middle and one in each deployment zone. Bonus points for holding the centre objective and your own. Unfortunately I didn't take too many pics of the game so my recollection is a bit sketchyI chose Headhunter, The Reaper and Old School as my secondaries, Andrew picked Recon, Ground Control and Titan Slayer.I'm facing a big bunch of Plaguebearers, which were going to be much tougher than the Poxwalkers I just faced and then an equally tough huge unit of Pink Horrors, which split into Blue Horrors and then into Brimstone Horrors! There were some Nurglings sneaking around, a couple of Daemon Princes and then two squads of Obliterators that were going to materialise when I least expected...However, I went first yet again with the Lancer and Warglaives crossing no man's land to get to the Plaguebearers. The Dark Talon overflew their lines with my by now standard strafing

2000pts battle report - Imperial Knights & Dark Angels v Nurgle Chaos Space Marines - LCO 2

APOLOGIES - it would appear the battle report I wrote has somehow disappeared. I will try and come back to this at some point and fix it :(Dominik Brundler was my game 2. He had Mortarion a squad of Blight Haulers, a couple of Drones, a fair few Pox Walkers a couple of Champions on Flies [I think] and a couple of Plagueburst Crawlers. OnOnce again I won the first turn and the Lancer sprinted across the board. I don't even think I felt the need to use Flank Speed as this deployment got him to their lines with ease. The Dark Talon Stasis Bombed the Pox-Walkers [I did not need bubble wrap and ObSec troops knocking around and I felt the Lancer could tie up a Crawler Drone

2000pts battle report - Imperial Knights & Dark Angels v Astra Militarum - LCO 1

I'd had opportunity to see my match up from the Best Cost Pairings App and the Honest Wargamer review a couple of days before:Keith Martin-White [www.hexwar.com] had around 9 Leman Russes with 90 conscripts in three rows in front of them. Having played Ben the other day with his Aeldari and he'd 'screened' his vehicles with three blobs of Dire Avengers alongside each other I realised that the conscripts would be in rows and the guys were right - how was I going to get through them? Keith had deployed right at the back so my only option was to try and smash through his army. Perhaps with hindsight I should have flanked from the right, forcing him to move his tanks to get a firing angle but instead I went head on, luckily I somehow won the first turn, even with Keith finishing deployment first. The Lancer made an 11" Flank Speed Advance and was in the faces of the Conscripts from the off. The Dark Talon got into the back-field, dropping a Stasis Bomb but only killing 5 Conscripts. I then made the dubious decisi

2000pts battle report - Imperial Knights & Dark Angels v Eldar

Before the Last Chance Open Ben and I had a game, both to familiarise ourselves with the ITC format and it's Primary and Secondary missions and to also familiarise ourselves with our respective armies. I had a little advantage as I'd run my Knights previously in our last game and the Lancer & Warglaives at Double Trouble 4However Ben had borrowed an Aeldari army off Otty, it had a Scorpion Heavy Grav Tank, a Warp Hunter, Pheonix strike aircraft, Farseers on bikes, Shining Spears and 3 units of 10 Dire Avengers. You can see their disposition below.I faced off with the Lancer taking the lead, backed up by the Warglaives and Euronymous while my tac squads took cover behind the church and my Scouts held the objective in the ruined watchtower.I won the first turn and my Lancer did Flank Speed right down the centre of the village [Hogsmeade? 😉 The Warglaives moved to the outskirts and their Thermal Spears, alongside the Thermal Cannon of Euronymous took out the Warp Hunter for a 'cheeky First Strtike'. Shadow War - Round Five

I've been very slack about updating the blog lately, but that isn't because I haven't been gaming. With the new year just round the corner, I thought I would rush to the end and summarise the whole of Round Five before the new year. Belt up, it's going to be a bumpy ride.My plan was for this to be the last normal round of the campaign. After this I only want to play one final fight which will involve all six teams and settle the overall winner of the campaign. But that's going to take a fair bit of time and planning, so probably won't happen for a little while yet. This round will be crucial though, as it will establish the final leader board, which will determine which teams have the advantage in the final fight. Game 5a - Wyches vs Sisters of BattleI rolled up the Ambush scenario with the Sisters as Defenders. The Sisters took up a defensive position on top of the Promethium Refinery. This gave them a good vantage point, but, unfortunately for them, all the Sisters had to deploy in the centre, with none of

Shadow War - Blood Enemies

For the first time in the campaign, Loyalist Space Marines faced Traitors as the Blood Angel Scouts fought the Plague Marines. The scenario was a straightforward Kill Team Fight. Both Kill Teams would try to break the other, with the first to bottle lose. The Blood Angels were one man down as Novice Marco's old battle wound kept him out of the fight. The Blood Angels deployment made best possible use of cover.......while the Plague Marines advanced through relatively open terrain relying on their superior toughness and armour to keep them going. In fact, this proved unnecessary as both sides shooting bounced ineffectively off each other's armour. The Plague Marine's implacable advance continued until they reached the Promethium Refinery in the centre. The Blood Angels were pressed hard on both flanks. But the Plague Marines still struggled to bring any scouts down, simply pinning them behind cover. On their right flank, the Blood Angels held up, despite concerted fire by the Plague Marine Champion. But on their left

2000pts battle report - Imperial Knights & Dark Angels v ORKTOBER!

Ben has been busy home renovating recently so it's been a challenge to arrange a gaming but as we've all signed up for the Last Chance Open we thought we'd better learn how to play 40k again 😃 We rolled Front Line Assault deployment map - long-ways arrow. We were trying to understand the ITC rules but I think we gave up in the end - bodes well for January!Ben has just 2,000pts of Orks so his army had no options or opportunity to fine-tune. Lots of Boyz, Nobz, Bikerz and Tankbusters in Trukks. There was also Snikkrot and his Kommandos.I took my Cerastus, 2 Warglaives, My Knight Errant [as a Freeblade], 2 min Dark Angel Tactical Squads [one with Plasma cannon], Scout Snipers, Techmarine, Chaplain, 2 Ravenwing bike squads with Plasma Guns and my Old Skool Predator - in use for the first time ever.Ben won first turn and I failed to steal. As you can see everything got up in my face pretty quick.Snikrott's Komandos appeared on my flank, although he turned up in the middle of the board. There was a lot of greenskin

Dark Angels - Ravenwing Dark Shroud part 4

This is pathetic really. I don't know what it is about the Dark Shroud that doesn't inspire me, but I put some wash on the Bone and Angels then highlighted the bone, then I moved back onto the Shadespire models 🤣Such a window of opportunity now shut as the Knights take centre-stage. Frustratingly I kind of need this painted too as if I can't complete both Knights I'l rely more on my Dark Angels to fill out my army and specifically the Ravenwing which this will help with. However, it's far more progressed than wither of the Knights so there is chance it could be brought back online and completed if the need and, more importantly, the will was there.Anyway, short and sweet, Knights are up next.

Dark Angels - Ravenwing Dark Shroud part 3

Well this is odd, I can't seem to find a post about my Dark Shroud that includes these pictures, or in fact the subsequent metallics. These were taken in December I must have been preoccupied and forgot to share them. Obviously this is just the Warplock Bronze basecoat.Which I would have followed with Balthasar gold and Retributor Armour and all the other bits to achieve my 'brassy bronze' which I failed to record. I think I did that around February/March, alongside the Predator and Razorback. Liam has returned from holiday but I still need to visit to pick up the Knight legs, then I can focus on the Imperial Knights. This delay has given me a few weeks to try and move the Dark Shroud past the metallics hurdle and onto the black highlights hurdle! Construction on the knights can be interspersed with my painting of this to make each more manageable. So here we are up-to-date, the metallics were then washed with my Valejo Sepia Wash which is a bit darker than Army Painter Soft Tone, I suppose it serves me right

1750pts battle report - Imperial Knights & Blood Angels v Imperial Knights & Nurgle Death Guard - game 3

Double Trouble 4 and Alex From the Fang's doubles tournament replacing Blog Wars. 875pts with random pairings but all match-ups are Battle Brothers. Once again my recollection is pretty hazy so for the most part enjoy the pictures, the commentary will be secondary ;)  My first Blog Wars was Blog Wars 6 in June 2013, in that time I don't think Alex and I have ever faced or paired with each other. We've been on adjoining tables but with this our last chance to dance Alex twisted the strands of fate to put us both on the same table - Knight on Knight! I'm paired with Tom Capper again [paired with for DT3 and opposite for Never Mind the Blog Wars] he had his Blood Angels, Mephiston, possibly Astorath some Assault Terminators and Sanguinary Guard. Alex had his two Helverins and a Knight Warden and was partnered with Jonathan Lyness [regular attendee both at Alex's events and my own Birthday Bash] he had Nurgle and Death Guard - a Damon Prince, big blob of cultists, 2 Bloat Drones, unit of Pl

1750pts battle report - Imperial Knights & Blood Angels v Astra Militarum & Tyranids - game 2

Double Trouble 4 and Alex From the Fang's doubles tournament replacing Blog Wars. 875pts with random pairings but all match-ups are Battle Brothers. Once again my recollection is pretty hazy so for the most part enjoy the pictures, the commentary will be secondary ;) Game 2 and I'm partnered with Matt Longmore again [I'd been paired with him at DT2 and he was my opponent in DT3]. He'd brought his Blood Angels with 'Captain Slam', some Veterans, Death Company, a squad of Helblasters and some other units [THSS Terminators] that would benefit from reserve deployment. We were up against Andy Peat and his Tyranids [5 Carnifex, Old One Eye, a Neurothrope and a Biovore] and Lucas Rooney and his Astra Miliarum [2 Leman Russ, 2 Basilisks, a small unit of Bulgryns, a 'Command Point Farm' and mortars. We managed to win first turn and not lose the initiative. Matt had kept all but a unit of Veterans in the ruins above my Lancer and the Helblasters on the top floor of the ruins at the top of the board. I dep

1750pts battle report - Imperial Knights & Astra Militarum v Astra Militarum & Khorne Daemonkin - game 1

Double Trouble 4 and Alex From the Fang's doubles tournament replacing Blog Wars. 875pts with random pairings but all match-ups are Battle Brothers. Once again my recollection is pretty hazy so for the most part enjoy the pictures, the commentary will be secondary ;)  Here we go with the last Double Trouble ever. I'll cover my feelings in the wrap up but suffice to say the event was it's usual fun, tinged with a hint of sadness as it has come to a fitting end. First game and I'm partnered with Matt Greenwood [Alex's regular opponent] and his Astra Militarum [3 Leman Russ with Pask, a Psyker, some Ratling Snipers and Vets but with no Command Point farm!].Facing us was Greg Barber, again with Astra Militarum [Baneblade, Command Point Farm, Psykers and a Bullgryn squad]. He was partnered with Duncan Gray and Khorne Daemonkin [Soul Grinder, Blood Letters, Flesh Hounds, Skull Cannon and some Forgeworld Greater Daemon].Setup was table ends but with the pointed ends 18" apart. That would hav
