A nice Napoleonic game at a very busy Sheffield wargames society , French v Spanish usung Brown Bess rules .Nice simple rules that allowed a big battle to be fought to completion in a couple of hours a French victory with lots of excuses from the spanish .
Tim Gow put on a excellent Matrix game at Sheffield Wargames Society last night ,7 players taking the parts of famous or infamous characters from Napoleons excursion into Spain .Really good fun with us all having our own victory conditions whilst trying to capture ,keep and recapture Madrid ,an objective eventually won by the Spanish Iregulars ,with probably Wellington coming off worst .Myself I did ok as Murat my victory condition was staying a live with my reputation and hat collection intact ,which I did the small fact that I left Madrid in a hurry stopped me winning . Matrix games may not be for everyone but I advise everyone to try it once , a bit like Marmite .The Emperor keeps track of the seasonswhile his stunt double inspires the troops My Victory conditionsThe fabled city of MadridNo that is not photoshopped its real and John was wearing it
Played our third game of Cruel Seas using our house rules ,to try most of the rules , John used all his yanks and I put out all my Italians , lots of fun the U.S just managed a points victory .Next game will include aircraft to try out the rule adaptions .
Manged to play cruel seas using our house rules last night at the club ,we got in 2 games the "ships in the night " and the "Torpedo Run" scenarios from the main rule book . The first game was fast and bloody but all my 2 vospers just managed to escape but with very heavy damage and the Torpedo run finished with one of my vospers sitting floating along with no damage points left waiting to be resued or captured and the other being forced to leave the table with crew and bridge hits but luckily one of its Torps managed to hit the tanker which although ablaze was still under power so technically a German victory .The house rules certainly made the game more realistic and fun . Next week Johns Yanks take on my Italians .ships in the nightthe brits run while they still can Torpedo RunTorp away ,destined to miss@nd vosper makes a daring run to fire its fish boom
Had chance to help play test sheffield wargames societys game for the joy of six show last night , great fun if you going to the show make sure you give it a try ,very tactical but fun and only takes an hour or so .
Last night at sheffield wargames society we played Johns game based around the British airbourne landings on D-Day , we had to paln our operation based on the original objectives ,then fly in in our paper planes ,I mean gliders then perform our set tasks. Glad tosay all went very well and the Landings were successful and we held until relieved .Great fun .some serious planning the invasion beginsup the Ox and Bucksthe german counter attack ...BANGusing the captured AT position to take out the hotels roof another German counter attack ....BANG Urrah help arrives
We played our first proper game of Ospreys "the Men Who Would Be Kings " last night at Sheffield Wargames Society . I Umpired whilst Ian took the part of the British and John over saw the Zulu Impi , we used the Run to the Hills scenarios ,with afew amendments for the AZW not in the main rule book . Ian had 3 British Regular units one with the sharpshooter trait and 2 NNC units ,Johns Impi consisted of 3 married and 3 unmarried regiments .Things got off to a bad start for the Brits with each unit rolling for thier leadership trait which consisted of Drunkards ,Brutal and Ugly leaders ,the Zulus faired a lot better .Surprisingly the first kills of the game came from a unit of NNC taking out 3 Zulus ,after that things went down hill quickly for the British with a lot of bad dice rolls and the Zulus making good use of the go to ground rule to get close to the red coats. The game only lasted 6 turns before the Zulus over ran the galent forces of Queen Victoria ,one unit of NNC fled the field but everyone el
At a very busy Sheffield wargames society last night we tried out these new rules from Great Escape ,they played well and we had to consult the rule book rearely after turn one .I fielded a mixed British and West German force and John brought the Russian masses .We didnt finish the game a very late start for us and as I said the club was busy so lots of people asking questions and saying hello but we did find out APC,s and the like died very easily but niether of us managed to kill an MBT only causing morale markers ,overall a nice simple game we have already decided to change a couple of bits but the rules are written in a way that will easily allow the players to add anything without too much troubleThe table set up ready to play2 Chieftains and a Leopard take up a defensive position as the Warpac tanks begin to appearRussian AA vehicles began to move into positionRussian MBT's follow their Recce units onto the fieldB.A.O.R MBT;s advance with infantry cover as a Hind moves ina hidden German squad take
The second Edition of Spectre Operations arrived last week which spurred me into getting stuff ready for a few scenarios and possibly a campaign , the 2nd edition is much better laid out than the 1st and appears to be a great game ,we will find out at the club on wednesday . To help with scenarios and such I have done a bit of background fluff based on 3 of my favourite Africa in Flames type movies ,the wild geese ,Guns at Batasi and Dark of the Sun all great films with great characters .The FluffThe African country of Zembala is a ally of Great Britain since being a British Protectorate up until the mid 60;s when independence tore the country apart , a mercenary group rescued President Limbani and contary to news reports at the time he wasnt killed but was put back into power by the British , popular leader but internal unrest still exsists with a anti government militia led by General Ndofa ,these are sometimes backed by a group of religious Insurgents led by an ex military leader captain Abraham . The Brit
A few pics of our game of Frostgrave at Sheffield Wargames Society ,we palyed the mausoleum scenario from the main rule book a fast and furious game ,great fun and easily picked up ,looking forward to the next installment
A few pics of last nights game at sheffield Wargames society ,a little wars game put on by Tim Gow ,great fun as always . Basically both sides needed the bridge and niether got it ,a bloody draw with lots shooting of huge cannon balls at each other .
After enjoying the clone wars edition of Risk ,we played a few weeks ago John went out and bought all the versions so last night we played the black edition which covers the final scenes of return of the Jedi ,personally I enjoyed it even more than the clone wars game even though I was totally destroyed ,luke killed Falcon shot to bits and every ship lost .Looking forward to a rematch now I have devised a tactical plan learnt from my mistakes
After my M8 made an appearance at Sheffield Wargames Society ,Tim Gow very kindly gave me a couple of solido M20's to bolster my forces .I have painted the first up to join my winter U.S Infantry for Rules of Engagement .The M20 wasthe recon version of the M8 with the turret removed it was equipped with a,50 cal for defence and the crew was issued with a bazooka for anti tank use ?. The 2nd Solido will appear with my late war US parasThe pair of M20;as donated by the very nice Mr GowAll white washed for the Ardennes winterwith the Italeri M20 a birds eye iew of the M8and M20 a slight difference in size but Im happy with it .
We started the campaign from the BOB rule book tonight at Sheffield Wargames society, with John Grayson taking command of the Luftwaffe and I led the few , very badly I might add .The luftwaffe carried out a wonderful bombing campaign even though they suffered high losses .The Luftwaffe stole the first game 53 points to 41 .This is a really great game only marred by the awful service from PSC ,which I learnt my lesson from and have not dealt with them since .
Last nights game at the club was a 7tv scooby doo game ,two local crazies had been disguising them selves as monsters to keep people away from the old spooky graveyard whilst they prepared to summon real monsters to take over the world .The gang and local sherrif turned up to stop this by finding 5 amulets hidden around the graveyard , the two locals cold try to summon a real monster each turn with the summoning getting harder as scooby & co found the amulets . The game started fairly well with Shaggy and scooby finding one of the evil icons and fred and daphne resuing the human sacrifice ,but soon went sour when magic was used to send Velma to the far side of the graveyard alone and the local police were taken out by the werewolf ....Things went from bad to worse with scooby and Fred both being taken out and shaggy and daphne both taking wounds the forces of evil win ...well until the next episode of scooby Doo (theme song plays )The Gang discuss their plans Help arrivesThe game a f
