Terrain Bits

Assorted Stuff

An odd and unusual assortment of stuff rolling off the workbench this week...Not all THAT odd and unusual: A couple of Necromunda figures - a Van Saar Juve and an Escher Ganger. The Van Saar Juve was a test figure to see if I liked the purple body suit for them. I do. I didn't want to do th standard green as my Cawdor gangers are all in Green. I was planning to do the Orlocks in mostly blue. The Redemptionists are Red. Escher are multi-coloured and Selaqure are black. Yellow and Orange are just a pain in the ass to paint.... so... purple...Speaking of Purple... an assortment of crates and drums in purple... just for a bit of variety.A couple of Hired Guns/Bounty Hunters for Necromunda. The guy with the plasma gun will have to be a Bounty Hunter as Hive Scum can only have items that are Rare (7) or lower. The guy with the twin bolt pistols COULD be Hive Scum... but he just looks a little too bad ass... so I guess they'll both be Bounty Hunters!Still 40K, but not necessarily for Necromunda... an old Psyker figur

Necromunda: Walls, Doors, and Karloth Valois

This past week I've mostly been working on Necromunda stuff. In particular walls and doors. These are what the walls are looking like on the game board. Both here and elsewhere, a few people have asked for close-ups of the wall graffiti, so, here you are...End/Corner Bits Side OneI have about 24 of these...? Maybe 26...? But I'm only taking pictures of the ones I've done some graphiti on. I didn't do a LOT on all sides as at least two of the sides will always be covered. Same goes for all the others.End/Corner Bits Side Two.See what I mean? Some sides get nothing.End/Corner Bits Side ThreeEnd/Corner Bits Side FourLong Wall Sections Side OneLong Wall Sections Side TwoThese are also a bit of a work in progress... I may still paint something on those two blank ones...Long Wall Sections End OneLong Wall Sections End TwoShort Wall Sections Side OneShort Wall Sections Side OneShort Wall Sections End OneShort Wall Sections End TwoKarloth Valois - Infamous Rogue Psyker of Necromunda - with the ability to telepathically

More Necromunda Barriers and a White Scars Primaris Intercessor

A few items rolling off the workbench this week - More Necromunda Barriers and a White Scars Primaris Intercessor!MORE Necromunda Barriers! I really cranked these out!I have 27 of these now!? In addition to using them in Neromunda - they would make great barriers for any sort of post-apocalyptic game! (I probably should have added in some crates and barrels and other detritus... but you get the idea...)White Scars Primaris IntercessorI picked up a pack of three intercessors back in January or February to paint one up as a Salamander - as Keira had planned to play a Salamander Primaris Intercessor in our Wrath & Glory Game Weekend - if, y'know, we'd actually gotten to the Tier Four adventure...A year ago I painted a White Scars Tactical Marine to use as Trojon Kull - one of the pre-generated characters for use with Blessings Unheralded - the Wrath & Glory Quickstart rules and adventure that was published for Free RPG Day 2018. I liked the look of the White Scars marines, so I decided to do on

Kasrkin Storm Troopers and Necromunda Barriers

A handful of things rolling off the workbench as we roll into a long weekend her in Saskatchewan...First, some old metal Kasrkin troops [ainted more like modern Tempestus Scions (which effectively replaced the Kasrkin in 8th edition... and maybe 7th...?)I got these are part of the BIG IMPERIAL LOT I recently picked up, and, actually, most of these were already painted... and I didn't mind the paint job (it was well done and I thought was close enough to my own style that, with a bit of re-basing, would fit in well with my own minis). So that's all I've done is re-based these and finished ONE that was only partly painted. All the others were completely painted, but one was primed and the blue was painted and nothing else?! Weird that one out of the unit would be left unpainted!? So I tried to match the paint job on all the others... Can you tell which one it is?Necromunda barriers. I'm just quickly cranking these out to get them done. I'd considered adding graphite and stuff... but I just want to get

Movement Trays for the Apocalypse

I'm getting pretty excited about the release of Warhammer 40,000: Apocalypse. I've watched the "How to Play: Video and another with a couple guys playing an actual game with the new Apocalypse rules, and it looks pretty slick! Cleverly addresses Alpha Smite - which I find to be one of the biggest drawbacks of the current rules. Simplified, streamlined, kind of reminds me of Epic... but with 28mm models!I plan to pick it up on release tomorrow and host a game for the kids and a couple of their friends on Sunday. We will be facing the swarms bugs of Hivefleet Haemorrhoid again. Some of my Imperial Forces faced the horde back in February, but this time the Hivefleet has invaded an Exodite world with ties to the Thaestalyrdaes Craftworld and the Biel-Tim fleet. In preparation for this Apocalyptic battle I've been making myself a few custom saboted movement trays....I decided to make them myself because... well... I'm a cheap bastard.. Also, I like making things... and I liked the idea of making them match the

Genestealer Kill Teams (and Other Bits)

I may have mentioned I picked up The Writhing Shadow - the Tyranid/Genestealer starter set for Kill Team. I thought it might be a good Kill Team to have as a loaner and use for the ToonCon game - it only comes with Genestealers so it's only ONE troop type to have to worry about and there isn't much variation at all between them - other than the specialist abilities. I know, I know... I could have use the Space Hulk Genestealers... I've actually painted these new ones to match the ones I already painted so they could be used together - including using the same 32mm Necromunda bases. I picked up the box set to get the cards and a little bit more terrain... (I apparently didn't have enough Sector Munitorum Terrain....?)Genestealer Kill Teamthis is actually only 88 points, so I could fit in one more (making it 99) and will likely just borrow one of Finnegan's Space Hulk Genestealers...The figures included COULD be built and assembled to make a team worth 96 points if they were all given Toxin

MORE Moon Base Klaisus - STC -Ryza Pattern Ruins

I finished up the STC-Ryza Pattern Ruins that came with the Moon Base Klaisus box set. These are all the wall bits that came with the boxed set. The was also a crate with the  Inquisition symbol on it (who knows what they could be storing in there) and trapdoor/access hatch (which, I have just realized, I haven't yet painted... so this isn't TOTALLY done!?)I tried to do them in buildings sets with separate colours - for a little variety. As I was setting this out on the kitchen table to take pics (too big to set up outside in the better light...) Finnegan noted that there probably ought to be rubble as there weren't many weapons that would destroy walls, but leave no detritus behind... I agreed, but pointed out GW was probably trying to find a balance between "realism" and "playability" (and cost!).I figure this represents the remaining terrain that matters in the game - the stuff that gives real cover (although, arguably, piles of rubble could also give cover) but to model all that would make the set ver

Moon Base Klaisus - STC -Ryza Pattern Ruins

I finished up a few more of bits of the STC-Ryza Pattern Ruins. These AREN'T the ones that came with Moon Base Kalisus. There were STC-Ryza Pattern Ruins that came with Moon Base Kalisus, but these aren't them. These are from a set I bought separately a couple months ago when Kill Team first came out. The ruins that come with the Moon Base aren't exactly the same either. They are similar... but not all totally the same....The new ruin bits. Basically identical to the previous section I completed (I posted pictures of them at the end of THIS POST). The only difference is I painted the outer side of the building reddish brown, where as the previous ones were blue.Same ruin, different angle. The board I've taken pictures of them on are the boards that came with Moon Base Klaisus.More of the same - but with some of the previously painted blue building ruins (and some T'au).A few of the building sections that came with Moon Base Klaisus are a bit longer than the ones I've just finished. I'm working on them ne

Death World Forest Kill Zone - Shardwrack Spines

This isn't the very LAST of the Death World Forest terrain... but I'm almost done... I have two little bits left to do (I think they're called "Grapple Weed"..?).Shardwrack Spines from Games Workshop.I went with red for them partly to make them stand out from the Barbed Venomgoarse, but also to give them an alien, otherworldly look - and I figured how better to make things otherworldly than to paint them the opposite colour you'd expect them to be on the colour spectrum given that most terrestrial plants are green! Also in a Cthulhu Now adventure I ran ages ago, there were these plants that fed off carrion that had red stems that seemed utterly creepy...I thought of putting the Valhallans in here for a laugh... but then decided against it..Looking forward to actually PLAYING A GAME on this... hopefully this afternoon... or perhaps tomorrow...Definitely feeling like I have enough to play a game. Really, if I had much more I'd be hard to move the figures around in there without catching a sleeve on some terrain

Death World Forest Kill Zone - STILL More Barbed Venomgorse

Here it is, folks, the last of the Barbed Venomgorse (and Eldritch Ruins).Barbed Venomgorse (and Eldritch Ruins) from Games Workshop's Death World Forest Kill Zone for Kill Team.I'm not sure what happened with this one. perhaps I didn't assemble a couple as suggested and ended up with more of one particular foliage type and not enough of another...? so we have a hybrid variety of Barbed Venomgorse...?I should have put figures in all these pictures to give a greater sense of the scale of them. This one, technically, counts as "Eldtrich Ruins" (or something like that) which is effectively the same, but has additional bonus tactics that can be used to booth Psychic abilities.Guaiacan Commandoes - back in the jungle.I now have enough of this terrain I can mostly fill the board with terrain bits. I could add in a few other bits of other stuff and be able to play a game right now!I still have the Shardrack Spines and two other little bits to finish up from this set, then it will be complete.I should mention that the

Death World Forest Kill Zone - MORE Barbed Venomgorse

A bit more of the Death World Forest Kill Zone for you today - MORE Barbed Venomgorse! Though the foliage is different on these, they still count as the same in the game. I have three more of these to finish up - with yet another sort of foliage! They are nearly complete, I'll probably have them up tomorrow. Then it's on to the "Shardwrack Spines"! After those, there are just two other little bits and all of the Death World Forest Kill Zone will be complete! Can I get it all done before Rogue Trader is released on Saturday!? That would be pretty fantastic if I could!MORE Barbed Venomgorse from Games Workshop.Maybe it's just the lighting, but I didn't find these quite as lost in the background this morning when I was out taking pictures.Maybe there's a bit of glare coming off the board which is muting the busy print bit...?Some bog-standard Cadian troops in the Death World Forest.Inexperienced as they are in such environs, they're totally going to die in there... and it won't even be the enemy t

Sector Munitorum Kill Zone

This week I've mostly been working on the Sector Munitorum Kill Zone terrain for Kill Team. I was hoping to have enough terrain for two small Kill Zone boards, and with the completion of these containers, I think I probably have enough to get by.The rush to get stuff done is because I'm going to be running a little Kill Team campaign next week. for the last week of summer vacation a couple of the kids friends (Da Boyz) will be coming over everyday this coming week - Monday to Friday - to hang out for the day and play Kill Team and hang out and paint miniatures and stuff. I'm calling it Kamp Kill Team. Stay tuned as I will post daily reports of the shenanigans we get up to!Eight new Munitorum shipping containers. Six of them came from the Sector Munitorum Kill Zone box, the other two came with the Drop Force Imperator box. The smaller crates and barrels I painted previously. I still have a few Galvanic Servohaulers from the box to assemble and paint and a PILE moreI tried tagging a few - but only a few as
