Stephen is here to tell you if these changes might result in earth-shattering alterations or a gentle breeze within the meta. Last weekend some stuff happened in Vegas and it happened to leak out, so here goes just a few of the things of interest to me.Games Workshop revealed the Sylvaneth Warband for Warhammer Underworlds. There's no telling when the models will actually be up for sale, but they do exist in studio form. I'm only mildly interested in the release, however. I was always more into Guerilla Elves rather than the Spirit Elves of the Wood Elves. People got to pick up some Monsterpocalypse monsters and buildings ahead of release schedule, like Zor-Raiden!He seems to be all-in on the melee front, and he makes his ninjas get to punch things and move away. What's not clear to me is if combined hit and runs get to move one model or all of them...The Shadow Sun Syndicate building adds more movement shenanigans to the ninjas, which is both fluffy and exciting. If Armodax is the closest thing I can get to a turtle at this point in Monsterpocalypse, I don't think I'm gonna care what it does. It just has to exi
Here's the random stuff I've been up to. Undead Blood Bowl Team This has been my big push the past 4 weeks or so, my Undead team. It's also what I pledged for Squaduary. The beginning of March will be the start of a new season of Blood Bowl at my FLGS, so I'm pushing to make sure I get the team all painted. It's looking promising too. Squaduary Pledge That last Wight is halfway done at this point. What's left goes quick enough. Once I wrap that Wight up then it's on to painting two Mummies - the last...continue reading
Keeping up with showing my WIPs. That’s right I am doing some Witch Doctor Dwarves. I mean Fyreslayers are already naked. May as well give some of them some grass skirts and the leader a voodoo mask… Next stage is … Continue reading →
I finished my third warband for Warhammer Underworlds. This time we have the Sepulchral Guard. I fell in love with these figures when they were first released, long before I have interest in this game. They were a joy to paint and their first game was very fun but very different. These figures will likely see table time in other fantasy games and Age of Sigmar. You can never have too many cool skeletons.Sepulchral GuardSepulchral WardenThe ChampionThe HarvesterThe Prince of DustPetitionerPetitionerPetitionerAs usual, the high resolution photos expose flaws that my old eye can't see in the real world. They look good on the table which is really what its all about.
Finished my Shadespire/Warhammer Underworlds Chosen Axes done up in a Mr. T. style of paint. They were easy to assemble and paint, but I did end with one concern with how the sculpt came together:There's a chunk of plastic between this one's bicep and beard. Is it supposed to be part of his bicep or beard? Is it something else? Later when I get a chance I'll have to check out other photos to see what the intention there was.As for playing...who knows. Not really fired up to get the deck of cards together to play. I did find a site but the ink used will be intensive.
The last chronicle I did wasn't an uplifting one. My father had just passed away and I was dealing with a lot. Well, since then things have settled down. I still have a lot left to do regarding my father's affairs, but the breakneck pace I was running at for 2-weeks straight is over. I guess you could say that things are settling into a new normal. Twitter Giveaway Contest For weeks I had not touched a model. The motivation to paint wasn't there, plus I had nothing to work on. Since getting into Warhammer Underworlds, my paint queue had...continue reading
They're a bit further along than this, but not by much. I just have washes down, so there's a bit more depth of color. Next steps is to go through and paint eyes, then layer up the skin, then the hair, then everything else.It should be tough. Eyes are the one thing I'm hesitating at though. Maybe next time can be tonight? One thing that I'm finding with these Shadespire minis is that I totally missed every place where there was a gold tattoo carved into the skin. I suspect this might be a sign that I will need bifocals sooner rather than later.
This is my Steelheart's Champions faction from Shadespire. These guys have been painted to match my Stormcast Eternals army for Age of Sigmar. There are AoS stats for this unit so they will see time in both games. For Shadespire these guys have done well, winning the first two games. They seem like a very powerful faction.
I hate painting gold.I know I gripe about it a lot, but hear me out. Or not. Either way, I'm going to write about it. Again. Here. Now. And in the future.I hate painting gold because gold gets on everything. I'm not the neatest painter to begin with, but for some reason, going in with gold, dry brush or wetlayers, makes me get gold on everything like my models are crying Midas tears. So I painted gold. I was inspired to paint my Chosen Axes because I recently watched an interview with Mr. T. Yes, that Mr. T. So my Chosen Axes will have dark skin and atypically dark hair. Probably not even blue black, but highlights to gray. The only decision left to make is the color of the loincloths. I'm thinking that should be a bright, blood red.
I have been interested in Warhammer Underworlds: Shadepire (or just Shadespire as it is commonly referred to) for a long time but since it was set in the Age of Sigmar setting and I was not playing Age of Sigmar I never thought about trying it. But now I am all in AoS and with the new version of the game I decided I should get the Shadespire set before they become impossible to get. Tim and I tried the game out recently and we both really enjoyed it. I decided that with such a small number of figures I have no real excuse for not painting them up. Below if Garrek's Reavers, a Khorne Bloodreavers band that comes in the game. I went with a quick paint approach and I think they look good. The nice thing about this game is the figures are also usable in AoS as this same unit. So basically, I know have one unit for my Chaos army already done.Garrek's ReaversGarrek GorebeardBlooded SaekKasus the ChainedArnulfTargor
I covered the Organised Play box from the first season of Underworlds, and was able to get my hands on the new 2019 set that was released to support Nightvault. These sets are available to stores as event support sets, and the content should be used as prize support for instore events, like tournaments or […]
This is only the third entry in this little series I've got going and it's not all fun. However, let's start with the fun stuff, shall we? Nightvault Gaming After getting my Thorns of the Briar Queen painted, I was able to take them out for a spin and played a few games with them against Farstriders. My first game saw me get completely smashed as I struggled to use a warband that wasn't all, "Rawr! I'm going to punch you in the dick!" It was fun though and I applied some lessons learned to my second game where...continue reading
Travis brings his freshly painted Gitz to face the Cursebreakers in three rounds of Matched Play!
Painted a month ago alongside the traditionally colored scheme. Hard to say which version I like more. But I'll leave that up to the suits in Washington. Here be minis!
