WM- Retribution of Scyrah
Travis Marg went ahead and shared these models over in Mercs and Cygnar facebook groups. They are the non-CID/fully internal playtest rules for the Warmachine versions of Riot Quest Models. None of these seem to be game breaking, but they do come equipped with enough rules to sink a card deck.Probably most interested in how the Storm Knight plays, but honestly I just want to wait until they release the Pyg Tank before I get too interested in what they're putting out there.
Played Round 4 at ATC against...Retribution. Three games in a row against Retribution. Apparently our team captain thought I could handle all the gunfire. At least this game didn't have any Dawnguard Tridents. I was quite tired of those by this point. He presents me with a problem: Nayl in my face that ruins a central aspect of Hordes which is the casting of animi if Nayl blows up too close to my warbeasts (or even warlock).Nayl gets handled though, like he always does. Slams or throws. Anything that makes him die closer to the enemy. It buys Borka2 a turn to not worry about Garryth casting spells. Rok goes in deep and Borka2 feats. It's a lot of work trying to get within 5" to shoot stuff without triggering counter-charge, and all the Stumbling Drunks mean that Rok actually gets pushed back my way. Garryth bails and jumps back behind the wall...and like a fool I give chase. I don't realize that the solo gives Garryth DEF 19 and whiff the second attack that would have had a good chance of killing the
The latest Primecast posted Friday, and I near blew out my cell phone battery listening to it in the car and discussing it in chat with friends afterwards. There was some monpoc discussion. I didn't really track that because I got distracted by the Warmachine stuff:Minicrates.Sexy Sylyss. The official minicrate name is Sexy Sylyss, though I think that they could have easily gone with the name Sylyss Wyshicouldnaylyrr. Then there's the Arkadius minicrate. I couldn't figure out the pun at first, but then I listened to the primecast and heard them refer to her as Bride of Arkadius, and that's when you see the straight back hair that practically begs you to paint a white zigzag line through it.Fun fact: She's holding a pig in her left hand, referencing the pig the crew picked up at Adepticon and adopted into some weird poly gamer family. You'll hear them refer to the pig as Hamilton. I wasn't that excited about Riot Quest as a game before other than more versions of Iron Kingdoms stuff. However, hearing them d
Round 3 of the ATC I had to play into Issyria. Concerned over the Dawnmowers (Dawnguard Tridents), I put down Borka2. The picture above is an early feat.In response, Issyria has to feat. I mess up Rok's Stumbling Drunk moves during the incoming fire from the Trident part of Issyria's feat turn by letting him open up line of sight to Borka. Hemera steps up and crit shots the Vengeance of the Rimeshaws. This strips off countercharge and Issyria's turn gets a little easier.Eating all those shots from the battle engines, I wonder now if I shouldn't have put more into trying to get Snow Shroud up to grant Borka's army concealment since it would not benefit from stealth if/when Issyria feated. The second Trident tries to finish off the Earthborn with shooting and fails, and then Imperatus tries to follow up and finish the job, but there's a mistake. Despite losing Battle Charged from Hemera's Critical Dispel, Borka's feat is still live, and models making melee attacks would turn stationary, which is what Imperatus d
Round 2 of the ATC we played against Practice is for Chumps. I got drawn into (by either captain, I wasn't really paying attention to the draft) a match with Trevor Gould who dropped Goreshade4 into my Kolgrima. The plan here is to threaten the Dawnguard battle-engine with my bears and then try to contain the map on the left side with my champions.Goreshade's cavalry play some yoyo games in the fire cloud by stepping into and through to shoot at viable targets and then step back. He feats because I will have the capability to alpha strike on his army and he wants to gather souls for Goreshade for when I do.Kolgrima steps up to cast Cursed Fate on the Soulless Escorted Dawnguard Sentinels on the left flank to make sure any hit kills them. She feats and catches everything except the Soulless Escort. She also catches the battle-engine and, more importantly, Imperatus. Then she Vanishes back behind the Wall and behind a cloud with Rok beside her to cover her rightside.Trolls sweep through and clear all but one mod
498 points134 modelsA few things to note here.I keep meaning to beef up my Retribution warjack game with Hemera and such, but never get around to painting the models. In addition, the Dawnguard battle-engine dropped last year. A battle-engine I couldn't justify purchasing until I've caught up painting stuff that I can actually pass off as terrain. I did have to deal with like three of the damn things at the ATC, though. I probably won't prioritize painting retribution in the next year. I have Goreshade4, but there aren't many large pieces I want to paint (aside from the Dawnguard battle-engine whose name escapes me now). If I find them, I will probably get the Sword-dudes because they are as anime as all getout, but my painting queue is possibly occupied for the next few months and I can't really think about building up for a faction I won't even put on the table.
Garryth was a fun character to read about in the background material for the Retribution of Scyrah. I used to call him Batman because in the story he'd just kind of show up and the other Retribution warcaster (I forget which one) could not detect his presence, Highlander style. It was like Steve Gordon standing on the roof by himself one minute, then all of a sudden there's Christian Bale in his full croaky voiced glory, interrogating the chief of police about the situation.Garryth is now the Eye of Vengeance, nicknamed Scary Garry, and he has hit the CID and already undergone several changes. He's given up his armpit blades (his twin pistols had curved blades coming out of the pistol grips that extended back underneath his arms)in favor of a big gun.I guess he's sick of not being able to dive in as his original design intended and decided that if he couldn't beat them, he'd shoot them? And in his current iteration, he is quite terrifying.Right now he can put out a template that makes him and his battlegroup ig
