X-Wing

Weekly Chronicle 2019 #7 (Week of Bourbon Trail Open IV)

Seven weeks into 2019 and honestly I am way behind on what I had set myself out to complete for this year.  I have only played 6 games of Guild Ball, 4 of Destiny and that is it, I only finished painting 1 model and that was 'Rookie Seenah' way back at the beginning of January.  I had really expected to have more games of Guild Ball in by now, along with a few of X-Wing.  AdeptiCon is coming next month and I have no practice games of X-Wing in, I think next week it will be time to sliding in a game a week. This past week was almost a pretty pathetic week for me, but yesterday made some of it back up.  I was suppose to play in a Guild Ball event on Saturday up in Grand Rapids, but some personal business I had to get done had me driving to Chicago for the day, there went 4 games I could have played.  Luckily yesterday evening my son and I were able to squeeze a practice game in (short report coming later).  Also yesterday morning I actually did a lot of work on 'Veteran Calculus' an

Da, da, da, dadada.

Another dark and dingy night for Club Night, although I notice the days getting that bit longer, snow on the hills has gone but it is cold.Alex who was new to X-Wing asked me for a game this week, as he also flies Imperials I thought I would take the Rebels for a change, they don't get out of the box very often. I wanted to keep it simple so looked around online for some inspiration and decided to go with four named X-Wing pilots, nothing fancy but the X-Wing is a pretty decent all round fighter as you would expect. The Empire turned up with three Tie Interceptors led by Soontir Fel, apparently he is an Ace pilot, I don't know that much about the Star Wars universe but the card is a good one. I started off with an advance and a turn to meet the enemy, I survived the salvoes which came at me and started to return fire, I had all my ships target lock one Interceptor and ganged up on him, at the end of that turn he was space dust. The rest of the game turned into the same routine, my ships kept together and the s

Weekly Chronicle 2019 #5

While being on vacation last week, I missed out on posting "Weekly Chronicle #4", there actually was not much to report, and there is not much to report for last week.I finished the month of January only playing 4 games of Guild Ball, which is a lot less than I had hoped for.  I am really hoping February will be a better month.  I do have a semi local Guild Ball event I am planning on attending in 2 weeks, and then on the 23rd of February is the Bourbon Trail Open IV down in Kentucky, so between those 2 events and practice games for those events, I should hit double digits this month for Guild Ball games. That still leaves me needing practice games for X-Wing.  I am signed up for the X-Wing Championships on AdeptiCon Friday (though I will probably lose my first 2 games and be eliminated), but I still need to refresh up on my lists.  There was an update last week for the points costs of the ships, so now I have to go through my lists and see which I want to play.  I have been leaning to

Maps and Darth Vader

I am still not 100% and what with feeling sorry for myself I have not touched a paintbrush in about two weeks, the 51st glower at me from the side of the keyboard and plead for their redcoats, I really must get back to my almost automatic one hour a night routine.I have been unable to call a halt to maps though, and despite my heart not being in it I manfully continued, finishing three projects and starting another, the maps which I am working on at the moment are time consuming and complex, I intend to break the back of this project next week, so nose to the grindstone.War and Soldiers in the early reign of Loux XIVWilliam III's Italian Ally. PiedmontKilling Hitlers ReichI went to Darlington early this morning for some X-Wing, a pleasant enough drive if boring. I would be playing son Stewart who is simply too good for me at this game, when fighting him I rely on luck while he has things worked out to perfection (or almost). I don't think I have ever beat him at X-Wing so thankfully on real battlefields I can

Daily Chronicle: Announced "NOVA Open 2019" August 29th-September 1st, 2019

The other day I received one of the semi-monthly newsletters from the NOVA Open and in real big letters it had said that the room block was 80% sold out.  For the heck of it I decided to log into my NOVA Open Store account just to see if anything was there.  All of last years events have been removed and there was a note stating that on February 1st, 2019 they will be reactivating the site.  I also noticed under my account settings that I had $15 available in store credit, I then proceeded to login with my son's account and it showed the same, $15 credit available.  These credits are on our accounts because last year we signed up for an event and then changed it for another event, the credit difference was placed into our accounts. That then got me thinking... My plan for 2019 was to skip over the NOVA Open this year, with a family vacation two weeks later and hopefully SteamCon USA a month later, I thought another Con may be too much.  I really do not want to leave that credit to go t

Per Ardua ad Astra

I have the X-Wing game and a few ships to give me choices for 'builds', my forces are Imperial and Rebel, I prefer playing Imperial because I love Empires and these guys are great baddies, they always get the thin edge of the wedge when up against the holier than though Rebels. As you know if you are a regular here I am not and never will be a great pilot, but the game is very clever, deceptively easy to play but tough to master, I should play more but you can only fit in so many games. So when Second Edition was announced I thought I would be handing in my pilot licence for a bus pass, but no, for Christmas I asked for two Conversion Kits for my models and a Core Set to keep the Force alive in Casa Anderson. Fantasy Flight Games pulled a fast one here, you should only have needed the Conversion Kits, not a Core Set having already bought one for First Edition, but guess what, the damage cards had changed, so you needed to get it no matter what as they did not come (as expected) with the Conversion Kits. 2018 Year in Review

There are two blog posts that I enjoy writing the most each year, the first one is my "What's in store for" (next year), and the second one is my "Year in Review".2018 started with a "What's in store for 2018" so we will use that post as basis for our year in review.Guild Ball2018Painting Goal:  This is a tough one.  I would love to say to be able to complete every Guild Ball model that I have so that all Guilds are completed.  It is doable since I currently probably have around 40 models left to complete.  I have the new six for both the Farmer's and Blacksmith's, the second six for the Brewer's and the remaining are for my Mortician's and Union.  I do have a few one off's left (Smoke and Lucky) and I am wrapping up Skatha for my son's Hunter's Guild.  I think realistically I will shoot to complete the Farmer's, Blacksmith's and Brewer's (along with the few one off's).  This will give me some room for some of the new Minor Guilds that will be released in 2018.Gaming Goal:&n

Weekly Chronicle 2018 #49

The end of the year is approaching and I am looking forward to the new year and working on my list of expectations for 2019 (my annual New Year's Day post).  We still have a few more weeks left in 2018 and I am 7 Painting Points shy of beating last year's mark of 320 Points.  Looks like I better hurry up and get some models ready for the painting table.  It is not like I do not have any models in my Painting Queue Backlog, but some of the items I am saving for 2019 (mainly tackling the Minor Guilds for Guild Ball), but I thought of some models yesterday afternoon that should just put me past last year's mark.Back onto my recap of week #49.Painting: Last week only 1 model was completed with 'Veteran Hearne' for my son's Hunter's Guild Ball team, I am glad he got completed and that was the last model for the Guild.  Nothing else was completed, but a few models did get ready for this week.Gaming:  Last week did not see many Battle Reports, on Monday night and yesterday my son and i got i

Weekly Chronicle 2018 #48

I would have to say that last week was a pretty good week for me modeling and gaming.  My Mortician's Guild were able to get completed with the last three models being 'Veteran Graves', 'Brainpan' & 'Memory'.Gaming wise, my son and I got in a few games of Star Wars: Destiny in, and I was able to get in games of Guild Ball on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.  Friday night my son and I also squeezed in a game of X-Wing (which was a nice change of pace). The problem with playing more games is that I then fall behind on prepping models in my Painting Queue/Backlog and I only have one model currently ready to hit my painting table.  I am hoping that I can probably start on it tomorrow night and "maybe" get it done this week, but we will have to see.  I have a Guild Ball tournament coming up on Saturday, and Sunday is Guild Ball open play down in South Bend (and I usually can get a lot painted on the weekends.)  I may have to skip open play this coming Sunday so I can catch up on buil

Battle Report: X-Wing 11/30/2018 (Scum vs Rebels)

It has been a few weeks since my last game of X-Wing and last night my son and I played so we can keep the rules fresh in our minds.  I am signed up for the X-Wing System Open Qualifier at AdeptiCon 2019, not that I am gong to win, but I do want to make sure I know what I am doing.  For last nights game, I went back to playing Scum & Villiany and my son with his Rebels.*upgrades not listedRebel (200)Wedge AntillesLuke SkywalkerB-Wing Variant?Scum & Villiany (200)Boba FettTalonbane CobraGrazI flew Cobra and Graz in a perfect position to get a Range 1 shot on Luke early in the game and they both whiffed allowing Luke to continue flying, he should have been destroyed early on.  Wedge and the B-Wing then made work on Graz, he survived the first round of shooting, but then the next round he was destroyed.  My remaining 2 ships then start to finally hit their targets....B-Wing ad Wedge were destroyed and now it was time for Luke to use the Force and pull off the win....was not going to h

Weekly Chronicle #46 2018 (AdeptiCon Registration)

It was a pretty slow week for me in gaming and hobbying and hopefully this coming week will be a little better.  I got busy with the organization of my Guild Ball items.  I had a few more dice/token trays I need to put together for the Ratcatchers and Falconers, and then all the work I did to be able to print out Single Side Cards for Guild Ball (Part 1, Part 2).  The only game that was played was a 3v3 matchup this past Thursday night.I did manage to get one model completed for the Blacksmith's Guild with 'Hearth', and I do have a few models just about ready to be completed and they will be posted this week, along with hopefully some more Battle Reports.  Planning to get in a full game of Guild Ball in tonight, then we shall see how the rest of the week goes, I have a feeling Thursday night after turkey I may just crash, then maybe get in a game or two on Friday since it is a day off for me.AdeptiCon 2019 registration opened up yesterday at 1:00PM CST and I was ready to go with 2 computer
